Google is always striving to be at the top, not just as Internet giants but best OS providers. The Android 6.0 marshmallow came out last year and Google is already up with another new Android version. Google’s newest software, the Android N came with different unique features and new android abilities. We took our time to select some of the coolest features the Android N comes with and here they are; Android N features Work Mode Within a set of “Android for Work” updates in Android N, this build allows for a Word Mode toggle. Like you’d toggle your communication features on or off with Airplane Mode, so too will you be able to turn on or off access to several things at once: “Work profile apps, background sync, and notifications are all disabled, including the profile owner app.” Also in Android for Work updates is a new ability to Remote Reboot. This is good for device users who have devices that are active but don’t necessarily have all their buttons available with easy access. Like they’re in a glass case – remote reboot will be helpful here in emergencies. Wallpaper Lockdown Also within a collection of Android for Work updates is a “Lock Down Wallpaper” feature. With “Disallow_Set_Wallpaper”, only the owner of the device is able to set a new wallpaper. Apple would do well to use something like this for their devices at Apple Stores. Direct Reply Much like apps like Slack for Desktop, users are soon going to be able to reply to notifications directly without needing to tap back into said apps. Multi-Window Support You must’ve heard rumors that Google would finally be enabling split-screen functionality in Android. The rumors were true. Here it is. Expect to be able to run two apps at once AND see two apps at once in many Android smartphones soon. What do you think of Android N features? Recent Android phones from the Tecno, Infinix, Gionee, Samsung, HTC, Xiaomi and many now comes with the Hotknot feature which is a rarely used feature in our phones today largely because we may not know what it does. This technology allows the capacitive touchscreen on smartphones to interact, thus different types of data can be transferred HotKnot is a connectivity option which is also based on near-field communication technology like NFC. However, in order for the tech to work well the smartphones must be placed in close proximity at least within 1 centimeter range. Once that connection has been established between the two devices, then data can be exchanged. How to use Hotknot to share files Share files Via HotKnot The first thing to note is you must have a HotKnot enabled smartphone and the smartphone you are about to pair with must have the same connectivity too. Then you should know how to switch HotKnot on and off. Secondly, to enable HotKnot on your smartphone, swipe the screen down to access the quick settings panel and toggle HotKnot on or off. You can also go the long way by navigating to Setting >All > HotKnot to switch on. A question comes up instantly saying “Allow data exchange when the screen Touches another device?” Immediately you toggle HotKnot on, locate the file you want to share. Once you have spotted the file, look for the share button below or above the file you want to share. Once you tap the HotKnot share button, the final instruction comes up. After clicking on the HotKnot share button, both smartphones are placed screen-to-screen to initiate the transfer and you would asked to accept transfer when the whole process is done. Both smartphones can finally be put apart after the transfer. The transfer speed is really superb. What do you think of HotKnot, have you been using it before? Kindly share your thought about this in the comment box bellow. Sources >> http://www.techlug.com/2016/05/what-is-hotknot-and-how-to-share-files-via-hotknot.html |

NFC stands for Near Field Communication and as the name implies, it’s a set of close-range wireless communication standards. NFC-equipped smartphones and other devices can exchange information with each other with a simple tap or wave. Remind you of tap-to-pay credit cards or apps like Paypal “bumping” to transfer money? That’s because NFC is the technology behind many new mobile payments types such as these. NFC and RFID (radio frequency identification) are sometimes used interchangeably, but NFC is really a newer version or extension of RFID. RFID waves can have very long rangesb(e.g., RFID is the tech that helps highway toll readers read your car’s toll pass), while NFC limits the rangebof communication to within 4 inches. This makes NFC perfect for more secure applications like paying for things or securely logging in at a location. NFC also allows two-way communication, as opposed to RFID’s one-way reading technology. So transferring photos or contacts between devices is a common use of NFC Many smartphones and new laptops have NFC chips. NFC World has an exhaustive list of all the phones around the world that are NFC- equipped (available now, coming soon, with limited availability, and more categories). Google Nexus variants have NFC, as do several BlackBerries, HTC phones, and others. NFC chips are also embedded in “tags,” which are stickers that yourdevice can interact with. NFC is most commonly associated with the “mobile wallet”—the idea that your smartphone will replace your cash and credit cards. In one tap or wave of your phone, you can pay for your groceries and redeem offers or coupons. Google Wallet , partnering with MasterCard PayPass, is one example. You can store all major credit and debit cards in Google Wallet and get a “virtual MasterCard” that pays for your purchases in-store wherever those PayPass scanners are or online. Beyond mobile payments, though, there are a world of uses for NFC, including: Getting tickets or boarding passes. Some airlines and buses are also experimenting with using NFC for boarding passes Opening doors. BMW has NFC- enabled car keys. Companies and universities are looking into or rolling out using NFC-enabled devices as security badges. To gain physical access somewhere, members need only tap their smartphones at the door. Downloading information. Advertisers and marketers can use NFC chips in porters and other promotional materials so all you have to do to get more information is tap or wave your phone (easier than QR codes, perhaps). With programmable tags you can buy, you can tap your phone to a sticker (on your desk, wall, car, or wherever) to automatically change the settings, such as volume or Wi-Fi network, open an app, pair Bluetooth devices, and more. For example, you could switch to car models when you get into your car, turn on the alarm app when you tap your nighstand, turn off the ringer when you get to your desk. Right now, NFC hasn’t hit the mainstream yet in terms of usage, but it’s the potential that’s made it so popular. If you have an NFC-enabled device, consider getting some NFC tags for it (around $15 for 5) on Amazon and you might be able to make your life easier. Or, if nothing else, you’ll look like a ninja when you fire up your favorite play list with a wave of your phone. And the much awaited feature Unread Message on Whatsapp is here! Whatsapp is no doubt one of the most popular free messenger, it allows you to chat with friends on your contact list, Whatsapp call, send videos, send pictures, group chat all for free. Recently, Whatsapp rolled out some update which include the Read receipt (that double blue mark) which indicate your message has been seen, but the question is this, is it really not a breach of privacy? If you are a type that gives much concern about privacy, the feature is a bit of concern, the good news is that you can turn this feature off but… To turn off the read receipts, Open your Whatsapp Messenger, go to Settings > Account > Privacy, under privacy Uncheck read receipt Now you have turn off the read receipt features but, the but in this is that you wouldn’t be able to see other people read receipts again too except you turn it on again. Lately, another updates mark message as Unread on Whatsapp was introduced! *How To Mark Message As Unread On Whatsapp The mark message as unread feature is not yet included in the latest version of Whatsapp on Google Playstore for Android users or any other stores for the time being but you can download directly from the Company’s website, make sure you allow “install apps from third party” in your Android device settings to download it. It will alter nothing in your Whatsapp, not even chat history, it will only add the mark as unread feature to your Whatsapp. So, to mark Whatsapp conversation as unread being a single chat or group chat, after downloading the updates, tap and hold on the conversation pane and you will see the feature option “mark as unread”. Whenever you marked a particular conversation on whatsapp as unread, it will be flagged with a green circle alongside the date it was sent. However, this features only allows you to see a message as unread maybe for a later reading, the moment you check this message the seen mark will be shown to the sender. I guess you can’t deceive the sender yet that his/her message has not been seen by you !What do you have to say about this? sources : http://www.techlug.com/2015/07/mark-message-unread-whatsapp.html |

Leaving your smartphone data on for a longer period is a well known factor that suck smartphone battery, obviously the one that suck battery most simply because it gives chance to most of other factors that drain battery to operate but is that the only thing that drains smartphone battery? These Are What Drains Your Smartphone Battery! => Those Hot Wallpaper Those HD wallpapers that please our eyes with their beauty have their hand in our smartphone battery You need to know this, the brighter the color, the brighter the light and the more it sucks your battery because every little pixel is producing its own light to produce such a nice dispaly. Not to talk of animating wallpapers.Tips : Use cool wallpapers. With the experiment carried out by BBC, using darker themed wallpapers saved battery life by as much as 21%. => Vibration Alerts Vibration is also among the conspiracy against smartphone battery, putting your phone in silent mode without vibration is one of the ways to save your smartphone battery. This should be no surprise for most blackberry users, because its kind of more obvious in Blackberry phones, though vibration does not only drains blackberry phones but also other smartphones, but vibration sucks a lot in blackberry. Tips : Putting your smartphone in silent mode or disabling vibration in chats, notification or call saves battery. => Battery Temperature Don’t be surprise, Battery’s temperature has effect on your battery. Too hot or too cold battery cause it to drain faster and could actually lead to reducing the battery life. One of the reason why most battery saver application has battery temperature feature to monitor the battery temperature. Keeping the battery at room temperature saves its life ! Tips : Avoid putting your phone in too hot or too cold places, both extremes have an effect on your smartphone battery. Recommended ; iPhone Or Android : Which One Is Better ? => Screen Brightness Good things demands a lot in smartphone, as hot wallpaper demands more of the battery, so the screen brightness. The brighter the light the more it drains battery. You don’t expect someone operating its smartphone at the lowest screen brightness to have the same battery level at a particular time with someone operating its own smartphone at the highest screen brightness. Tips : Putting the screen brightness as low as possible will saves lot of your smartphone battery. => Those Free Apps Smartphone apps generally consume battery, Well Known! but there are some apps that drains more of your phone battery. Gone are those days! Days of Java phones, symbian phone, days when the favorite Nokia 3310 rules, Despite that the days are gone, still some believes associated with them are yet to leave many’s mind. Then, battery overcharging is an issue but now? Thanks to the technology improvement, lithium battery is here! did you still worry about charging your phone overnight? What about Mac computer don’t get virus, tell me you have stop believing this. Are you the type that rate phone megapixel above camera quality? Then you need to read these! Here are 6 Common Tech Myths You Should Stop Believing Right Now! 1. Browsing in Private/Incognito mode keeps you anonymous Chai! you are on a long thing, does that look like a Freedom or Hide my iP? Staying anonymous doesn’t work that way, If you’re using private browsing mode in firefox or browsing in Incognito Mode on Google Chrome, is just a way to tell your browser not to track or save your browsing sessions’s private data which include browsing history, searches, visited sites, cookies and the likes. It won’t keep your identity anonymous in anyway. 2. Macintosh Computer don’t get viruses Is true Mac computer don’t get virus easily but the saying that “Mac computer don’t get virus” is wrong. Apple itself use this as marketing strategy not until 2012 when the report of thousands of Macs being infected by a Trojan virus dominated the internet, this led to the removal of this claim by Apple from their official website. So, if you are still believing this that Mac computer don’t get virus, then you are really outdated. 3. Leaving Your Phone Charging Overnight Can Destroy The Battery Don’t be surprise, I was also a victim of this believe until a while ago before the time of composing this article, the first time i saw this, i was surprise, then i read more about it and found some concrete proofs. Is true leaving phone charging overnight can damage the phone battery but this is apply to the olden phones, phone like Nokia 3310. The proof i found shows that Phone Batteries these days are made of lithium-ion which are able to stop receiving electricity once they are fully charged, even when charger is still plugged in. Not only phones but laptop battery. So, there is nothing bad in leaving your phone charged overnight, no more overcharging issh! 4. More megapixels always means a better camera Most people take camera megapixel for camera quality, these are 2 different things entirely, the quality of an image is determined by how much light the sensor is able to take in where in case of megapixels, the larger the pixel the more light it can absorb. When you see a 13MP camera, that doesn’t determine its quality, it’s really the size of the megapixels that matter more than the number of megapixels. The megapixels issh become ramper just because when determine the specifications of a phone, only the megapixel is being touched and not the size. 5. You shouldn’t shutdown your laptop everyday Shutting down laptop always is not quit ok, but the saying that “You shouldn’t shutdown your laptop everyday” is wrong. Its ideal to shut down your laptop when you won’t be using it any time within the next 6 hours. But hibernate/sleep will be best when you have running applications on your computer and you want to continue the work soon. mind you, some applications may not work properly when launched from Hibernate mode, then you will need to shut down and restart your computer. 6. Don’t charge your phone unless it’s almost dead Nothing like don’t charge your phone unless it’s almost dead, just that charging battery when its almost dead is good for battery life but not all the time, maybe like once in week. It’s not harmful to plug your phone in before the battery is dead at all. The main reason why phone’s battery life diminishes with time is because it’s already used up many of its cycles Some have believed the tech myths until now, which has put them in unnecessary burden. It’s wise to stop believing this tech myth. Sources ; http://www.techlug.com/2014/11/believe-tech-myths.html |
wao, i can truly see you are an iphone lover, me prefer android anyway !Lets see which phone get more lovers here in Nairaland. |
Android and iPhone are the trending smartphone in the market today though there are other close competitors like the Windows Phone and BlackBerry, But most people end up choosing between Apple’s iOS phones most especially the iphone, and Android based smartphones from manufacturers like Samsung, Techno, HTC, LG and the likes. The question is Which one is better ? Android or iPhone ? iPhone Or Android : Which One Is Better ? * Android ; Are smartphone based on Google’s Android OS with many popular manufacturers like Samsung, HTC, LG, Techno producing smartphone with the Operating system. Is user friendly, so flexible and customizable. * iPhone ; Is much of complex smartphone than Android, Is based on Apple’s iOS platform, it has improved multitasking and a new Control Center for quickly changing settings and also with best selection of high-quality apps and games in their store. I don’t think am in a right position to choose between to phones but I believe you can only answer this after checking out their features. The answer depends on what you need it for and this is based on your choice. Lets see what they offer and lacks => Apps ; Android Google’s Play store has over one million apps available, they offers more apps than Apple’s App Store simply because Android is an open source, its software is open for developers to generate apps. But Apple is still leading in terms of quality, most app developers and companies choose to publish the iOS version of their apps first in Apple’s Store before looking at Android Play’s Store. There is a big difference in Quality and Quantity, i Think Android is leading in terms of quantity but face a security problem with many malicious apps but iPhone has the best Quality of Apps. => Size ; Most of Android smartphones have screens of between 4.5 inch and 5inch, Also their tablet device have screen size of 5+ inch range like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with 5.7inch. While Apple smartphone which most are of 4inch are relatively small compared to Android smartphones. So, if you’re looking for large screens smartphones, Android is a choice ! => Gaming ; In terms of games, iPhone really beat Android with variety of games available for the Os but Flash is also a factor, Apple denies access to apps with flash but Android allow this. => Battery Life ; This factor vary dues to variety of hardware used in Android phones, Android and battery life don’t last too much longer, don’t panic , that’s Smartphone for you. Using a smartphone, you need to know some smart tips . => Software ; Apple runs its software on its own hardware, the iOS runs smoothly on iPhone since its bug free because the software is controlled by Apple, you can only install apps which Apple approves and it’s also difficult to put music and video to your iPhone because Apple makes everything possible through iTunes. Android is still behind in term of software, with multiple crashes and bugs in it. => Hardware ; Since Google offers its Android software to many phone makers like Samsung, HTC, LG and others, Android phones vary in size, weight, features, user experience, and quality. But Apple is the only company produce iPhones and have control over how the software and hardware work together, iPhone also vary because it has difference model also. The fact is that they both have issues with their hardware. => Multitasking ; Android is good in terms of multitasking though the latest iOS 7 now come with an improved multitasking features to the old version. Both Android and iPhone have their merits and what they lacks, so it is difficult to recommend either iPhone or Android ,it all depends on what you need the phone for and what your choice is. Recently, Instagram founder Kevin Systrom announced a new features in instagram. Instagram Direct; a new way to send photo and video messages to friends. Instagram, a social network with a broadcast structure unlike connections based social networks, for example Facebook and others, If am not mistaken, it was on June when Instagram introduced 15secs Video sharing features, now is another new featureInstagram Direct, Unlike before which users can only like or comment on pictures, now with the introduction of Instagram Direct, users can now send direct messages to people they follow or from people that follow them, which can include photos or videos . How Instagram Direct Works ; Right where you use to see photos of people you followed , you will see two taps at the top instead of the only one you use to see before. Click on the new tab ,then you can continue with uploading of your photo or video by clicking on the add sign at the top. you can choose someone out offollowing list and send your private message… Another amazing thing about this is that, once the person you send the message opens up the photo their profile picture within the message gets a check mark which shows that it’s been read. More also, Users can like the direct photo messages and continue the chatting, not only that, users can send Direct messages up to 15 different people in their following list and also chat privately with one or a group of people. In addition, for privacy purpose you can block certain users. Whenever you receive a photo, you’ll see a little inbox icon on the top right corner of the app, which will send you directly to your new messages. Note ; If you don’t follow someone, and they sent you a direct message, it will show you a “pending request” rather than a received message in your inbox.
