Sleekyshuga: Unbroken happiness is a bore; it should have ups and downs
Culled from: Half Of A Yellow Sun Author: Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche Page: 314
Unbroken: whole, not divided into parts.
Happiness: the emotion of being happy; joy.
Bore (from the context of my question): to inspire boredom in somebody.
I finished C.N.A's Americanah, and dived for her Half of a Yellow Sun. Though, I have seen the movie but I realized that it is nowhere as intriguing as her book. It's a MUST READ for all lovers of literary work.
I stumbled on the quote (above) she made and uploaded it on my Personal Message (PM) on BBM. Since I totally agreed with her, I thought everyone did, not until I got a mention from someone today countering me, saying it was wrong. I tried explaining to him in the best of my knowledge but he stood his grounds. I decided to ask others, and I got answers different from my thought, though two ladies agreed with me, with the other basing her points on an adventurer (a relationship adventurer), though, I countered her telling her it applies to all spheres of life..
• Unbroken happiness can't be a bore. It's impossible to have unbroken happiness.., Mr. J. --- Unbroken happiness is a key to a healthy living, relationship, career, life etc but it's practically impossible.
• Any everlasting/unbroken happiness is fake? Yes, I replied.. I GIVE UP was his astonished answer.., Mr. C. --- There is NO everlasting/unbroken happiness... Any everlasting/unbroken happiness is pretense..
• Happiness is a certainty, and I know of couples that have never quarreled/had issues before.., Mr. A. --- Inasmuch as we all want happiness, an unbroken relationship/happiness do not exist..
What then is the essence of happiness if it cannot be broken?
'UNBROKEN HAPPINESS/RELATIONSHIP/LIFE IS A BORE; IT SHOULD HAVE UPs AND DOWNs.'
What's your take on this? Do you agree or disagree with the above? If yes, give, reasons, vice versa..
Matured responses, please .. i belive unbroken happiness is a myth... fantasy, but if it were real it would truly be a bore... the value of light is only found in comparison with darkness... so also our happiness only gains true worth when we have sadness, and unhappiness to balance it out.... |
