DIVIDENDS OF OBSTINACY PART 1 Written by Temidayo P. Morakinyo All right reserved. No part of this publication may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system or transmitted through photocopying, recording or otherwise, without the prior permission of the publisher ************"************************** Kunle’s proposal was an anticipated answered prayer for Yetunde, who was thrilled by every bit of him. It was love at first sight which snowballed into the desire to take the nupital flight together. Kunle was a tall, handsome and caring guy.He had all embodiment of a fine man. He and Yetunde had known themselves for years since their days in the university. They had started dating from their third year in the university up to five years after graduating from the university. Prior to Kunle’s proposal to her, she thought that Kunle wasn’t serious with the relationship, so she was happy when he finally proposed. Mr Johnson, Yetunde's elder brother wasn’t economical with the truth, instead he corrected her where and when necessary though she turned deaf ears to his corrections. She knew her brother to be a good discerner of character. The choice of Kunle didn’t go down well with Mr Johnson and the acceptance of him as a prospective son-in-law met a brick wall when Yetunde introduced him to her parents. Yetunde was ready to marry Kunle no matter what happened. She had several altercations with her father and her step-mother's persuation for her to be patient was effort in futility. She claimed to have known Kunle all her life that he wasn’t a womaniser and that he was God-fearing. It is said that misery seeks company; in desperation Yetunde adhered to the advice of some of her married friends without marital homes and permitted Kunle between her legs. “The pregnancy result came out positive” the doctor told Yetunde. She was rushed to the hospital after fainting during a management meeting in the office. The news brought mixed feelings, her lovely dad would be disappointed but the pregnancy would leave him with no choice than to support her union with Kunle. In three months, the knot was tied at the registry. It was a dream come true for Yetunde against all odds. She seemed to have gotten away with her acts and her joy knew no bounds. Kunle got what he wanted and soon removed the mask of a tender loving man to reveal his real self . His riotious lifestyle could not be curbed by his wife. Yetunde was surprised to see her husband have a swift change in character. He hardly talked to her, and whenever he does they argued and fought. He started drinking and hanging out with irresponsible friends at nights which was quite different from how Yetunde knew him to be when they fell in love. Yetunde who was six months into the gestational journey had to end the journey one Saturday afternoon as she bled to the point of passing out. Her inability to prepare lunch for her husband who returned from the gym was what fanned the flame of anger “Kunle I wanted to prepare your lunch when I started feeling dizzy” Yetunde explained. “You are simply lazy, so stop using the pregnancy as a way out of discharging your duties in the home” Kunle replied. Yetunde told her husband that he was insensitive and inconsiderate but her opinion earned her a black and blue beating from him. Fortunately, Bukky, her best friend came visiting and met her on the floor. There was nobody in sight to ask what happened rather she took the initiative of rushing Yetunde to the hospital. Unfortunately for her she had a miscarriage. Yetunde's inability to conceive for the next two years after the miscarriage set her impatient husband on the path of infidelity. The result of Kunle's unfaithfulness was the birth of a twin by Lizzy, his colleague in his office. The kids were already a year old when Yetunde got to know. She cried her eyes out. She later confronted Kunle with the news of his disloyalty but got a divorce as a response. No amount of pleas and the mediators sent to Kunle could reverse his decision. Yetunde was back in no time to her parents' house. It was just like she was back to zero point. She came face to face with the reality of the divorce when Kunle legalised his union with Lizzy at a registry outside the city. She was psychologically and emotionally traumatized with an adverse impact on her blood pressure and mental health. Being a dedicated staff member who contributed to the growth of her company, a large chunk of the hospital bill was footed by the company. Eleven months later, she was discharged from the hospital and also given a date for her check-up. She couldn’t resume to her office again, because a replacement had been found for her. She wholly got the dividends of obstinacy.. She regretted her actions THE END WATCH OUT FOR PART 2 I love feedbacks from my readers, to send your feedback you can send a message to my WhatsApp number via http:///2348108894629

The diary of a Nigerian Teenage Girl. Written by Temidayo Morakinyo It was valentines day..... She just came back from school with blood shot eyes and tears stinging her eyes. When she reached her room she ran to the safety of her bed to snuggle her head on the pillow. Earlier today she decided to feel among, to do what everyone else in her class was doing. Popping collar, It was a trend for girls in Success secondary school to open the buttons of their shirts and allow their cleavage to show as well as to make their collar to be straight and strong.. Livenna decided to copy this trend because she didn't want to be called chaff by her classmates and besides no one asked her to be their val so she hoped someone would ask her at the last minute. She went to her seat and proudly sat down and occasionally turned to the back which was occupied by boys so they could perhaps admire her.. She heard giggles from the back but ignored it, she kept hearing the giggles and some of the others trying to hold laughter, she then felt insecure, she couldnt brush off the feeling anymore. She summoned courage and turned her head slightly to the back to see what's going on. Only to see a boy acting as if he was ironing his desk.. She now heard murmurs of some boys saying iron. And if you heard anyone say that to you just know they are calling you flat... Elijah, one of her classmates was conversing with Peterhed, ' Guy, I just dey see ribs.. No better something'. It was her they we're talking about.. 'So much for a valentines day', she said under her breathe. She had to be tough. No one should dare know she was sad so she put on a plastic smile.. 14th of February 20** she wrote in her diary I'm trying to trade my pen for my emotions. Trying to put my emotions into writing. Do I really need to listen to what people say about me?. Almost everyday of my life. ' Your too skinny, You don't look your age, You don't have boobs, Your nyash is too flat.'. I hear them everyday and I try to ignore it.. I couldn't even get a valentine date. Its like as am ignoring them, they are clouds staking up to become a heavy rainfall. A thunderous rainfall that hits me hard in my heart, my soul and my mind. I choke, choking tears because the voices gets too loud.. Told by someone that my bride price would be small because am not curvy and am way too dark. That they measure bride prize according to assets. I feel so less female.. Diary what am I to do?? Stay tuned to my next story of the diary of a Nigerian teenage girl.. Leave your comments.. The readers' views are very important. |

*ACCIDENTAL MARRIAGE – Part 1* A Story Written By Morakinyo Temidayo Tosin dropped out of school at SSS 2 because she couldn’t concentrate on her studies. Twice she has been given probation for poor performance. She became extremely engrossed with her romantic relationship with David, David was the first guy in her life. David was the man who deflowered her while she was 13. Their souls became knitted and inseparable. Severally her school had been changed to detach them but all to no avail. Her parents sent her to her uncle in Ile Ife just to take her out of David’s reach but she fell sick and almost lost her life. All she kept chorusing on her sick bed was “TAKE ME TO DAVID AND I WILL GET WELL” “We will not take you to David, if you want to die, die!’ Her uncle replied back. But her ailment deteriorated so badly that the doctors became helpless. The doctors advised they take her for prayers as they had exhausted all medical assistance. I need no prayer or any specialist, take me to David and I will be whole, she said. David on his own part had since became a shadow of himself after they took his love away from him. ‘This is pure infatuation and not love.’ David’s father said to his son after he stopped being active. David could go a day without talking to anybody. He could stay indoor for days without food. ‘You will kill yourself because of a girl and after you are gone she will have 10 men.’ his father advised him. ‘You are still a young boy who ought to give attention to his studies and not a girl. When you become a graduate, there will be too many girls around. You can even marry an Oyinbo girl if you become successful in life.’ These and more were the words of his father. ‘If you don’t leave that girl’s thought and concentrate on your studies and future, I will disown you.’ His father said. ‘Daddy, if you truly love me, let me be with my love, I will never be fulfilled without Tosin. Tosin’s voice heals my pains, her presence brings peace to my soul.’ ‘But you are still a boy and you know nothing about love.’ His father replied. All David ever does and does well is writing love poems. Every writeable items in his room has an inscription of love and romance. He could write love statements and nuggets on the table, bedside, calendars, curtain, ceiling fan etc. All attempts to change Tosin’s and David’s perspectives of love failed. A wise man in Tosin’s town advised her father to let the two love birds be married to each other in other to avoid losing them. ‘Over my dead body.’ Tosin’s father said. ‘I will never give my daughter’s hand in marriage to that idiot who aborted her dream of becoming a medical doctor. I rather lose her than give her out to him in marriage. She’s too young and immature to be married.’ Years later Tosin’s father had spoken to his friend whose son just came back from the US after his master’s degree about how he will want him to marry his daughter. ‘I better give her to your son free than allow that useless boy destroy her life.’ Within a month, wedding plans were arranged between Tosin’s father and his friend. ‘Tosin, your husband-to-be and his people will be coming to see you next week.’ Mr Adeleke told his daughter. ‘Daddy, you mean David and his people?’ ‘If I hear you mention that name here again, I will baptize you with a dirty slap. Who is talking about a boy who has no future? I am talking about Ola, a real man with bright future. Someone who has first and second degree.’ ‘Daddy, are they coming to marry me or you? If I don’t marry David, I will never marry any other man.’ The story just began. You think you can predict what happened next, let’s see….. Watch out for part 2 *ACCIDENTAL MARRIAGE – Part 2* Tosin’s wedding day with Ola was fixed without her consent. Plans were ongoing as she was made to do all the family’s biddings against her wish. ‘I am your father and you must obey me or else Ephesians 6:1-3 will not be your portion; Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. [2] Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise [3] That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.’ Mr Adeleke quoted. ‘But daddy did you read verse 4? That says “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”‘If you don’t obey me, it won’t be well with you neither will you live long on earth. I did not disobey my father on the choice of your mother, so you can’t disobey me. When I married your mother, I didn’t even see her until our traditional wedding day. It was my father and mother who saw her, talked to her parents and did all the traditional rites on my behalf and today we are still together after 27 years.’ 15th November was fixed for her wedding. The traditional was to take place by 7am, followed by the church wedding, both on the same day. Everything went on smoothly all on Friday as guests arrived from all over to grace the wedding ceremony. Cooking, music, eating and felicitations made up the day. The church wedding was to take place at First Baptist Church by 10am prompt. By 9:30am, the church hall was filled to capacity as guests were all seated waiting for the arrival of the bride and the groom. At 10am, the wedding started with solemnization proceedings but the bride was yet to arrive. Tosin’s father became tensed up as he turned at every shortest interval in expectation of the arrival of his daughter. The agitation in the hall became contagious as everybody started looking worried. Where is the bride? The officiating minister asked. This is 11 and the bride is not here yet, this is an act of dishonour to God and the council of elders seated, the officiating minister said pointing to the direction of the groom and the father of the bride. ‘I give you 20 minutes grace, if your bride is not here, myself and the elders will leave this place.’ Everybody knew Rev John that he will carry out his threat. Half of the guests rushed out to make calls and brainstorm on how to get the bride in. Meanwhile the groom couldn’t leave his seat until they are joined. All attempt to get the bride failed. Tosin was nowhere to be found. 10 minutes later Rev John collected the microphone to announce “10 more minutes”. Ola became really worried, sweating profusely and uncontrollably under a well ventilated hall. Everyone who went in search of Tosin came back with no report of her whereabouts. Nobody suspected this on Friday and while the traditional wedding took place in the morning because Tosin played along. At about 5 minutes to Rev John’s ultimatum someone whispered to Ola “she just called now and she said you can be joined with her father. As for me I am with David my love. On hearing this, Ola composed himself as against the thought of his guests.” “Your grace time is over,” Rev John came to announce. “It’s obvious this wedding cannot hold again”, he said as he carried his bible to start leaving. Ola beckoned on the Reverend, “excuse me sir let’s continue with the wedding solemnization”. Rev John looked at him strangely and asked “with who will you be joined?” Immediately Ola turned to Tosin’s chief bride maid “will you marry me?” Yes I will marry you”, she replied. “Reverend please join me and Antonia together as husband and wife.” The Reverend dropped his bible in confusion as he gazed at the congregation. Who is the man giving this lady’s hand in marriage? The Reverend asked the congregation. A lot happened thereafter.
