Health / Re: March 22 - World Water Day... What Are You Doing To Protect Our Water? by dayop: 9:21pm On Mar 22, 2013
I guess the concern of World Water Day was out shined by the death of the late and great Prof. Chinua Achebe. May his soul rest in peace and may all those that admire him heed by his words and understand the revelation in his quotes. I will share one of my favorites of his quotes with you...

“Nobody can teach me who I am. You can describe parts of me, but who I am - and what I need - is something I have to find out myself.” ― Chinua Achebe

Like art, we all might take the quote to mean something different… But, I find relevance in this quote to Nigeria’s environmental issues. This nation has gone through many experiences of rule; it’s most pristine and functional time seemed to have been during colonialism and we fell into a slow degradation after. But, for Nigeria to be fully sustainable on its own, without UN Aid and outsourced mitigation; the country requires the care, love, interest and passion of her people. Others can step in to clean –up and make Nigerian’s environmentally aware; but it is only by our own hand that we can achieve social responsibility.

Nigeria’s ecosystem is failing; her coastal shores eroding and our lives are at risk every moment we ignore the possibility to change and solve the environmental issues that are hindering our life source. In Professor Chinua Achebe quote, he is asking that we be the resolution for ourselves; we are never going to survive as a nation otherwise. Take care of your motherland and water and she will in turn takes care of you.

Please join our effort to build an environmentally sustainable Nigeria free of pollutants and debris; a better functioning Nigeria. Give the greats like Pro. Chinua Achebe more to be proud of as he looks at Nigeria from above.

Health / March 22 - World Water Day... What Are You Doing To Protect Our Water? by dayop: 4:17pm On Mar 22, 2013
We are an Ocean conservation organization, our goal is to perpetuate the need to protect all the waterways in our ecosystem; encourage sustainable habits and educate on environmental awareness. Ultimately our goal is to maintain and conserve the Ocean which is our life support!

Many people in Nigeria already understand to some degree that water is important; the dilemma is that not many Nigerians understand how water supply and the Ocean correlate; this lack of knowledge poses a major threat to Nigeria’s entire water system.

The present culprit to the demising health of Nigeria’s entire ecosystem is from poor sanitation and other contaminants along with the intemperance of plastic pollution in the land and water.

Environmental awareness and educating the population of how essential it is to protect the Oceans and other waterways is crucial in Nigeria. The commitment to safer, cleaner water/environment in Nigeria needs to be shared and practice by all. The problem can be reversed. Please contact our organization to learn more about what you can do or volunteer to be apart of our projects.

Currently two third of Nigeria's population does not have safe water... That is 109 million people out of a population 160 million. What are you doing to make Nigeria a sustainable nation?

Please join our projects for a greener Nigeria.

Jobs/Vacancies / Volunteer Grant Writer Needed For Start Up Enviromental Ngo In Nigeria by dayop: 8:56am On Mar 07, 2011
Ocean Conservation and Ecology Awareness in Nigeria (OCEAN) is a registered Nigerian non-profit NGO. We are also based in Nigeria only at the moment.

Our organization focuses on the protection and conservation of the Oceans, lagoons, rivers and lands of Nigeria, by promoting and encouraging environmental health and awareness to students, communities and Nigeria's lawmakers.

As a start-up organization, we are seeking a professional individual that has a passion for conservation and environmental education, with a strong background and experience in the non-profit sector and extensive grant writing skills. We are all volunteers at this time and with crucial funds needed in the field; this work would be entirely on a volunteer basis. Duties include: grant writing, assisting with promotional materials (i.e. brochures, etc), and ability to conduct appropriate research involved with each grant that is written,  This would not be a full-time position and the volunteer can work from home. Volunteer does not need to travel or reside in Nigeria for the position.

Must have experience or knowledge in development of proposal and grant writing from foundation, corporation, public and private institutions and a great command of the English language.
