Politics › Gunmen Strike In Zamfara Communities, Kill Many, Displace Hundreds by Dbemba(op): 3:54pm On Mar 21, 2025 |
Multiple people have lost their lives, several others have been injured, and many have been forced to flee their homes following a wave of violent attacks on communities in Zamfara State between Thursday and Friday.
The attacks, suspected to be carried out by armed bandits, affected villages in Talata-Mafara, Bukkuyum, and Kaura-Namoda Local Government Areas (LGAs), according to a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X on Friday.
In Tudun-Biri village, Talata-Mafara LGA, gunmen stormed a Fulani settlement around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, setting houses ablaze.
According to the post, one person was killed, while several others fled for safety.
“Witnesses said the assailants arrived in large numbers, torching huts and destroying properties, leaving the community in chaos. Many of the displaced residents are now seeking refuge in nearby villages.
Later that evening, around 6:32 p.m., gunmen launched an attack on a Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) camp in Gurusu, Bukkuyum LGA.
However, the vigilantes put up strong resistance, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle.
“Three CJTF operatives and three community members were killed,” a local security source confirmed.
“One CJTF member was abducted, while four others sustained gunshot wounds.”
Despite suffering losses, the assailants eventually retreated into the forest.
Tensions remain high in the area, with fears of a possible reprisal attack.
In another attack, which occurred at midnight on March 21, armed men raided Gidan Fulani village in Kaura-Namoda LGA, rustling an unspecified number of cattle.
“They fired warning shots into the air to scare people before driving the cattle away,” a resident recounted.
Security sources say efforts are underway to track down the attackers and recover the stolen livestock.
Authorities have intensified surveillance in the affected areas, while local vigilante groups have stepped up patrols to prevent further violence.
The Zamfara State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the attacks. https://dailypost.ng/2025/03/21/gunmen-strike-in-zamfara-communities-kill-many-displace-hundreds/ |

Politics › National Assembly Of Idi*** by Dbemba(op): 12:28pm On Mar 21, 2025 |
In a functioning democracy, the legislative branch is designed to serve as a critical check on executive power, ensuring that no single individual or entity can dominate governance. However, in the "National Assembly of Idi***," this principle is utterly abandoned. Here, lawmakers and representatives operate not as independent voices for their constituents, but as a compliant chorus, always agreeing with the president—even when he is demonstrably wrong. This assembly is a glaring example of a legislature that has lost its independence, integrity, and purpose, devolving into a cult-like group that prioritizes loyalty over justice, and silence over truth.
Blind Loyalty Over Critical Thinking
The defining feature of the National Assembly of Idiots is its unwavering allegiance to the president. Lawmakers in this assembly do not question, debate, or scrutinize the president’s decisions. Instead, they blindly endorse every policy, statement, or directive, regardless of its merit or consequences. Whether the president’s actions are misguided, unethical, or outright harmful, the assembly rallies behind him, treating his word as gospel.
This blind loyalty undermines the very purpose of a legislature. Instead of serving as a forum for diverse perspectives and robust debate, the assembly becomes a echo chamber where dissent is nonexistent and critical thinking is actively discouraged. Lawmakers who might privately disagree with the president’s decisions quickly learn that their role is not to represent the people, but to rubber-stamp the president’s agenda.
A Cult of Conformity
The National Assembly of Idi*** operates less like a democratic institution and more like a cult. Members are expected to demonstrate absolute loyalty to the president and the ruling party. Those who conform are rewarded with positions of power, access to resources, and public praise. Those who dare to question or criticize are ostracized, punished, or silenced.
This cult-like mentality creates an environment where independent thought is seen as a threat. Lawmakers who value their careers quickly learn to suppress their own opinions and fall in line with the group. The result is a legislature that is devoid of diversity, creativity, and accountability. Policies are passed not because they are well-considered or in the public’s best interest, but because they align with the president’s desires.
Silencing Dissent: The Assembly’s Darkest Trait
Perhaps the most disturbing aspect of the National Assembly of Idi*** is its ruthless suppression of dissent. Any lawmaker who dares to speak out against the president or his policies is met with swift and severe consequences. These consequences can take many forms: public shaming, removal from committees, loss of party support, or even expulsion from the assembly altogether.
The message is clear: loyalty is mandatory, and dissent will not be tolerated. This culture of fear ensures that even those who privately disagree with the president’s actions remain silent. The few brave souls who attempt to challenge the status quo are quickly isolated and neutralized, serving as cautionary tales for others who might consider speaking out.
The Erosion of Democracy
The consequences of such a system are catastrophic. Without independent lawmakers to hold the president accountable, corruption and incompetence thrive. Policies are enacted not because they serve the public good, but because they advance the president’s personal or political agenda. The assembly becomes a mere extension of the executive branch, eroding the separation of powers that is essential to a healthy democracy.
Furthermore, the lack of debate and scrutiny leads to poorly crafted laws and hasty decisions. Lawmakers, afraid to voice their concerns, pass legislation without fully understanding its implications. This results in policies that are ineffective, harmful, or even disastrous for the nation.
A Call for Change
The National Assembly of Idi**" is a stark reminder of what happens when democracy is undermined by blind loyalty and a lack of independence. For a nation to thrive, its lawmakers must be free to think critically, debate openly, and hold those in power accountable. The people deserve representatives who will fight for their interests, not blindly follow a leader—no matter how wrong he may be.
It is time for citizens to demand better from their elected officials. Only by holding lawmakers accountable and insisting on true independence can we ensure that the legislative branch fulfills its vital role in a democratic society. Otherwise, the National Assembly of Idi**" will continue to serve as a cautionary tale of what happens when power goes unchecked and dissent is silenced. https://opinionplanet..com/2025/03/national-assembly-of-idiots-legislature.html?m=1 |
