Trigger-Happy Police Officers Kill 17-Year-Old Student In Ibadan Going For WAEC Exam
A 17-year-old student has reportedly been shot dead by police officers in Ibadan, Oyo State, while on his way to take the West African Examination Council (WAEC) exam.
SaharaReporters learnt that the incident occurred on Tuesday morning when some police officers were chasing a vehicle that had allegedly driven against traffic.
However, during the pursuit, the officers reportedly fired shots indiscriminately, and a stray bullet struck the student who was being driven to school by his father.
A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows bloodstains inside the car, indicating where the student was hit.
The victim was rushed to Welfare Hospital in Alakia, Ibadan, but he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Dozens of sympathisers were seen at the hospital, both inside and outside, consoling the grieving family.
Meanwhile, some police officers were also spotted at the scene, stationed nearby in their patrol van.
An eyewitness identified as Ayodele recounted the incident: “We were at the airport area when we saw a car being chased by the police. One of the officers raised his gun and fired. The boy was inside the car with his father when it happened.”
He said: “The car was coming from Aba-Ode and heading toward Olatundun. The driver saw the police and tried to turn back, but the officers pursued and opened fire. The bullet pierced the back of the car and hit the boy.”
Hospital staff later confirmed that the student died from the gunshot wound.
A relative of the victim shared more details: “The boy is my younger brother’s son. His father was driving from Adegbayi to drop him off for his WAEC exam. They were twins— now one is dead.”
She added, “Policemen from Gbagi arrived later. When I asked why an innocent boy was killed, they said the officer who fired the shot was from Alabata Police Station. The officer fled the scene after the shooting. They said he tried to enter the Air Force police station but was denied entry. He eventually ran to Airforce base.”
According to the relative, “The officers told me their priority was to rescue their van, not the life of the innocent boy.”
A doctor, Adeyoju Ayinla, who attempted to save the boy’s life, was reportedly assaulted. A video shows swelling on the side of his head.
“It was a stray bullet,” the doctor said. “It hit him in the waist and he died before we could save him.”
When asked about his own injuries, Dr. Ayinla explained, “A group of people hit me with sticks while I was trying to help the boy and a police officer. The rest of them ran away. There were nine in total. I managed to hold one of them, and he is under my custody for now, just to bring out peace and calm among the citizens of Nigeria.Nigerian fashion
Efforts to contact the Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, were unsuccessful, as he did not answer calls or respond to messages.

Education › Re: Briton Wins English Proficiency Challenge Against Nigerian by Dbemba: 1:40pm On May 19, 2025 |
If you like, repeat it a thousand times. In our fathers' generation, you could say they spoke good English. In our generation, I did think we spoke good English until I arrived England. I encountered a Zim babe at a night Club in 2015 and we exchanged numbers and started texting. This babe came to see me within a couple of weeks. I was flabagasted and floored when she told me she came because, unlike many Nigerians she had encountered, I write "good English grammar". I couldn't swallow that comment and spent hours on an endless debate about it. Since then I have had similar encounters. Then I began to notice it myself in written english compositions with fellow Nigerians. The jury is still out because we do not have data points on how well we write/speak the English Language. But it seems to me extremely foolish to challenge someone to a test of his native language. The challenger picked the wrong english man. He thought his pick is one of the millions of english riffraffs who litter run down estates across the UK. He went to debate an educated guy. We should stop being emotive about issues concerning Nigeria, myself inclusive. It is this mindset that make us challenge our brothers who tell us the truth about how rotten things have become in Nigeria. It is that blind loyalty to being a Nigeria that is killing us all.

The funny thing is before i could check my band from their website with meter number. But they have removed that feature from their site.

NgeneUkwenu: I just came across a blatant falsehood circulating on this platform, deliberately crafted by one Mr. Racoon in an apparent attempt to whitewash Peter Obi’s image. He falsely claimed that Governor Soludo praised Obi’s so-called achievements during a campaign—a claim that is completely untrue.
In the video in question, what Soludo actually stated was that the poverty rate in Anambra, which stood at 53% during Peter Obi’s tenure, was reduced to 14% under Governor Obiano.
Let’s assume, for the sake of argument, that the issue here is a lack of comprehension—both on the part of Mr. Racoon and the moderator who chose to highlight such misinformation on the front page.
As far as governance is concerned, Peter Obi remains a failure.... You go explain tire
