HealthResponsible Coverage Of Suicide To Prevent 'suicide Contagion' by DebhariJones(op):
To whom it may concern,

Sensationalizing suicides by placing them as front-page material with graphic details is NOT helpful, especially to people at risk of committing suicide. Even if other Nigerian media houses choose not to adhere to responsible suicide reporting guidelines, Nairaland can choose to do better. The section moderators should review suicide stories please. More that a hundred scientific studies have shown that responsible reporting of suicide can reduce the risk of additional suicides.

Here are simple recommendations from WHO:

Recommendations for coverage include:

Avoid describing suicide as inexplicable or without warning; include suicide warning signs
Avoid glorifying or romanticizing the act of suicide or a person who died by suicide; try to present a balanced story on the person
Avoid relaying the method, location or details of the person who died by suicide; limit details to the facts the audience needs to know
Avoid portraying suicide as a common or acceptable response to life's adversities
Avoid sensationalizing headlines
Avoid using stigmatizing language
Avoid harmful graphics
Do not share the content of a suicide note
Avoid quoting police or first responders
Provide resources whenever possible

HealthCodeine Addiction by DebhariJones(op): 11:49am On Dec 03, 2013
Halo...
So here's the thing,I can't help feeling like a drug dealer each time I dispense cough syrups containing codeine to people who are obviously abusing it. I can't refuse to dispense because;Firstly,I don't own the pharmacy and I'm kinda compelled to do what my boss says and secondly, refusing to sell it to them does not stop them from procuring the medication from other pharmacies or better still, patent drug stores. I got talking with a few of them and they wanted to quit and asked me how.
Quitting an addiction especially codeine addiction isn't an easy task that can be undertaken by oneself because the withdrawal symptoms are very unpleasant. The addicts need to be detoxified first and kept under tight surveillance. All these are best done in a rehab....please post the names and addresses of the major rehab centres we have in this country, preferably located in Abuja and if possible the cost of therapy.
