Election petition tribunal sitting in Kano has sacked APC lawmaker, Magaji Zarewa - The court also declared the candidate of PDP for Rogo constituency, Jibril Falgore, the winner of the election - Justice AM Yakubu ordered INEC to issue a certificate of return to Falgore PAY The Kano state House of Assembly election petition tribunal has nullified the victory of Magaji Zarewa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the rerun election of Rogo constituency held in January. Legit.ng reports that Justice AM Yakubu, who presided over the tribunal on Friday, July 24, declared Jibril Falgore of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the duly elected member of Rogo constituency in the Kano state House of Assembly. Falgore had challenged the legality and competence of Zarewa to contest in the election, arguing that he did not resign his position as the director-general of the Kano state drug and medical consumables supply agency 30 days before the election. Kogi guber: Huge number of APC aspirants is due to my efforts, says Gov Bello Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state. Credit: Twitter/Ganduje. Source: Twitter He said the Zarewa's act contravened the provisions of the electoral act as amended. Falgore also challenged the conduct of the entire election, insisting that there were irregularities. In his judgment, Justice Yakubu said both the oral and written evidence adduced by the counsel for the petitioner and that of the respondents “satisfactorily proved that Magaji Dahiru Zarewa of the APC did not resign his position 30 days to the rerun election of Rogo constituency in the state House of Assembly.” The tribunal also ordered INEC to present the certificate of return to Falgore, who was the first runner-up during the election. Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the candidate of the APC for the September 19 gubernatorial election in Edo state, reportedly led Governor Godwin Obaseki, the flagbearer of the PDP in an online poll conducted by Ripples Nigeria. How true is the claim that Ogun guber election should be declared inconclusive? . Read more: https://www.legit.ng/1350747-just-tribunal-sacks-apc-kano-lawmaker-declares-pdp-candidate-winner.html |
