Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Nnamdi Kanu and Simon Ekpa are among the prominent Igbo leaders. Ojukwu died in London in 2011 after contracting HIV virus; Nnamdi Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment in Nigeria following his terrorism conviction, while Simon Ekpa was sentenced to six years in prison in Finland over terrorism-related offences.

i never saw any state coming out to call them enemies or lament about having them in their state. but the so called sophisticated people you calm they envy can't go a day without mentioning an *gbo man. it tells a lot where the envy is coming from.

Group Says 2027 Should Be South East Turn, Threatens Igbos Mass Return From South West Region And Northern Region To South East




Some Igbo socio-political voices and commentators have issued a strong warning ahead of 2027, saying that if President Bola Tinubu and former VP Atiku Abubakar refuse to step down for Peter Obi, it will worsen ethnic relations and push Ndigbo to withdraw socially and economically from other regions.

The statements, made in interviews and on social media over the weekend, center on the argument that "2027 is the turn of the South East" to produce Nigeria’s president based on zoning and equity.


Speakers argued that both Tinubu of the South West and Atiku of the North have had their "turns at the table" and should, in the interest of national unity, allow an Igbo candidate.

"If Atiku and Tinubu insist on running and Peter Obi loses, it will send a message that Ndigbo will never be allowed to lead," one elder said.
"That kind of exclusion breeds resentment, not just against parties, but against ethnic groups."

They named Peter Obi of the NDC Party as the candidate who should be supported in 2027.


The most controversial part of the statements was the call for a mass social and economic disengagement if the South East is denied again.

Some voices said:
1. Igbos in the North and South West may consider returning to the Eastern region.
2. They will also ask Northerners and Yorubas doing business in the East to "return to their regions."
3. "Ndigbo will have nothing to do with Northerners and Yorubas politically and socially" if 2027 does not go to the South East.

"We are tired of contributing to other regions while our own region is ignored at the top," another commentator said. "If there is no fairness in 2027, let everyone go to their region and develop it."


Political analysts warn that such statements, while reflecting frustration over zoning, risk inflaming ethnic tensions in a multi-ethnic country.

Leaders across the North, South West, and South East have in the past called for unity and condemned ethnic ultimatums. The Presidency, APC, PDP, and NDC Party have not officially responded to this specific call.

Constitutionally, any Nigerian from any zone can contest the presidency in 2027. INEC has fixed the next general election for January 2027.

Civil society groups are urging all sides to "debate 2027 on issues, not ethnicity" and to avoid language that suggests forced relocation of Nigerians, which is against the constitution.


The pressure is mounting early. For these Igbo voices, 2027 is about more than politics — it’s about "belonging." For others, it’s a reminder that Nigeria’s stability depends on managing expectations around power rotation without threats.

even as i am only bashing igbos for trying to claim they are better than others, yorubas are always tribalistic.and they don't even know when it has turned to hate/ envy.
