BRIEF HISTORY AND ORIGIN OF COMPUTERS. Computers have been around for a long time. Going back in history, some people believed that the abacus was the true first computer. The first abacus is believed to come into existence between 2700-2300 BC and was created by the Sumerians so that they could count faster, and have evolved through the year. The term "computer" came out around 1613. People who performed computations or calculations were often referred to as computers. One of the first major counting problems in History was the census. The first census was taken George Washinton was in office in 1790. In 1790, there were so many people that it took more than seven years to add up all of the numbers for the census. The government was so much frustrated that it took so much time to tabulate. As the country grew, it became harder and harder to count all the people and it took longer and longer. The need for speed kept on growing. In 1890, a young engineer named Herman-Hollerith designed a punch card system to tally up the 1880 census information. The census calculation only took three years and saved the government $5 million. SEQUENTIAL GENERATION OF COMPUTERS. As in the old days, computers were very huge and had difficulties in handling them. This chapter shows the generation of computers from the time of manufacture to our time of modernization. FIRST-GENERATION OF COMPUTERS (FROM 1942-1955) SECOND GENERATION OF COMPUTERS (1955-1964) THIRD GENERATION OF COMPUTERS (1964-1975) MODERN GENERATION OF COMPUTERS (1975 TO PRESENT DAY).

Vitamins are groups of essential organic food substances that are needed in small amounts for normal growth, development, and metabolism. To begin, this article elaborates on vitamins: sources, functions/deficiencies. Vitamins are obtained from food consumed and some are stored in body tissues. They generally protect the body against diseases and infections. Examples of some well-known vitamins provided in various diets are Vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin K. If any diet lacks particular vitamins, a disorder called deficiency disease may result. When vitamins are deficient in the body, there will be poor growth of organs, nervous system disorders, joint pains, and body weaknesses. Globally, there are two main groups/kinds of vitamins which are fat-soluble vitamins and water-soluble vitamins. WATER-SOLUBLE VITAMINS. Water-soluble vitamins are dissolved in water. They can therefore be easily non-renewed when they come in contact with heat, sunlight, water or even air. Water-soluble vitamins are present in green leaves, fruits, and cereals (rice, maize, and sorghum). It is, therefore, necessary for them to be taken in on a daily basis. Examples of such vitamins include vitamin B and vitamin C. FAT-SOLUBLE VITAMINS. Fat-soluble vitamins can only dissolve in fats and oils but not in water and are present in animal fat and vegetable oil. Fat-soluble vitamins tend to accumulate in fatty tissues of the body and may even build up to lethal concentration if taken in excess. Excessive intake especially vitamin A may result in weight loss, dry itchy skin, children irritability, headache, etc. Examples of fat-soluble vitamins are A, D, E, and K. [b] THE TWO MAIN FUNCTIONS OF VITAMINS. - PROMOTE HEALTHY GROWTH. -PROTECT THE BODY FROM DISEASES AND INFECTIONS.
