Brilliant idea but it would be nice if free people can visit those in prison. This would give us access to their views on important issues. It would act as a small and limited deterrent to those in "prison" and would greatly reduce the need to open a new account.
You have a point though but it will be niece only if his/her lawyers or closed associate to the imprisoned moniker will be entertained.
My opinion though smiley

You have a good point. But my fear is that commuting sentences through appeal could encourage impunity on the part of members.

Besides, if the decision of the court is to be taken under advisement, who then makes the final call as to the sentencing?? Would it be through a majority vote by the jury/judges?

This idea becomes much more complex when you consider its application under the politics section. Each of the mods have their political bias and you know what that means.

So for the avoidance of such complexity, I'd rather we stuck to the status quo where banning/incarceration is at the discretion of the mods (individually). smiley
You have a point though wink

lipsrsealed Who go pay the millions, Seun? The dude would rather his dog eat up the money. No SAN oh. I was looking at it from the angle of curbing the acidity dished out whilst fighting amongst monikers. Lawyers will have to carefully word their statements same with the accused...hehehehe
Was just joking tongue wink

i go with this one.

I've been in a situation where a Mod banned me because the issue was sort of personal. And I was banned for two straight weeks.

Just like that angry
My dear, the issue taya me oo embarassed

Just sort of witch hunt, even your rivals will be lobbying for your ban. embarassed

But if there was something like e-Judiary section on this board you would have got the activities of the Learned Colleagues(Lawyers) to defend you on the lengthy incarceration cry
Nairaland GeneralRe: Banning On Nairaland: Possible Modification. by Descartes: 10:50am On Dec 06, 2014
Also, the 21 stipulated rules should be accompanied with a number of days the offender will be imprisoned not just handing a mere ban unnecessarily.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Banning On Nairaland: Possible Modification. by Descartes: 10:48am On Dec 06, 2014
Enoquin:
As Descartes has rightly said, Nairaland is an e-community. That an activity is happening in one section, doesn't mean, other sections are at a standstill...besides, the banned moniker is the one to seek for a trial and if it is a big offence, (s)he can get a trial with the understanding that the jury might even give him a stiffer punishment if found guilty...I know I would like to come to Nairaland e-court and watch as lawyers try without using abusive words, to get their clients punishment reduced or off the hook.
Secondly, issues of bias from mods will be reduced.

It's good thought to sample the opinion of others
You are on point.

I can't wait to hire a SAN on this board and demand for compensation in Millions of Naira if banned unlawfully. wink

I think it is a cool idea even that of the e-judiciary. Imagine Omenka(Op) being banned and his case taken to e-judiciary where only Barcanista and maybe Obiagelli (sorry for the mentions) are allowed as his defence lawyers. Then, the jury will consist of known partisan members or folks from religion or business section. All other comments apart from the judge, lawyers and maybe jury will be hidden. Then the jury will hand out the ban depending on the offence. Not all offences will require the jury though...cheesy
You have said it all.

Nairaland is indeed an e-Community cheesy

You can get it whenever you want to reply to a thread or quote someone.

Just try this, click on reply button on this thread as if you want to leave a comment, the first thing you will see is the Rules and regulations. They are 21 in number.

Thanks cool
Nairaland GeneralRe: Banning On Nairaland: Possible Modification. by Descartes: 10:02am On Dec 06, 2014
This is indeed a welcome development smiley

Also those convicted should also be give an EX-CONVICT tag on every section they found themselves tongue
Nairaland GeneralRe: Banning On Nairaland: Possible Modification. by Descartes:
@Omenka I share your sentiment. Was once banned for one week by OAM4J on 7th of August,2014 which expired on 14th August, 2014.

Indeed was very painful for me reason being that couldn't get anybody who could solicit for me and their was nothing like e-Judiaciary where those who violate the Nairaland Rules and Regulations should be tried or given fair hearings in the crime committed.

On this note, I hereby endorse your SUGGESTION on this incessant banning on this board as well as calling on Seun and his Admin Staff to create e-JUDICIARY section where the offender or those who go contrary to the Rules shall be tried and if found guilty should be sent to the Prison yard.

Cogito ergo sum smiley

Integrate all Igbo communities into one geopolitical region, and the identity crisis will cease automatically. If all Igbo communities are merged together in one region, every Igbo man will be proud of his Igbo identity. The Eze of Asaba, Professor Chike Edozien, has stated this idea on several occasions. Igbo leaders should work towards achieving this goal.
I think you are right smiley

pazienza:
What is new? They would always remind them that they are Igbos, when there is a political advantage to gain. Didn't Rivers people remind Odili that Ndoni is Igbo?

The mistake Ndiigbo outside SE make is that they think that by denying their true identity, they would be able to escape the fall out of the defeat of Biafra, that they could leave it all for the SE to bear the consequences, but the truth is that as long as the SE suffers politically in Nigeria, so would the Igbos outside the SE in their various microcosms of Nigeria.

Years ago, in the glorly days of the Igbo nation, when the SE was strong in the national politics, Osadebey an anioma son reigned over the mid west(Edo,Delta) but today, Aniomas can't even govern half of mid west, Uhrobos now kick them around like football.

If not for the effort of Azikiwe and Ebitu ukiwe, who weakened the Ijaw prescence in Rivers state by facilitating the creation of Bayelsa state, the Igbos in Rivers who now prefer "Igboid", would still be bossed around by the Ijaws, like Anioma people by Uhrobos.
Aptly put.

Food for Thought
