NATIONAL BROADCAST BY HIS EXCELLENCY BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFR, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, ON THE 65TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY OF NIGERIA, OCTOBER 1, 2025 Fellow Nigerians, Today marks the 65th anniversary of our great nation’s Independence. As we reflect on the significance of this day and our journey of nationhood since October 1, 1960, when our founding fathers accepted the instruments of self-government from colonial rule, let us remember their sacrifice, devotion, and grand dream of a strong, prosperous, and united Nigeria that will lead Africa and be the beacon of light to the rest of the world. Our founding heroes and heroines—Herbert Macaulay, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Margaret Ekpo, Anthony Enahoro, Ladoke Akintola, Michael Okpara, Aminu Kano, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, and other nationalists—believed it was Nigeria’s manifest destiny to lead the entire black race as the largest black nation on earth. For decades, the promise of our Independence has been tested by profound social, economic, and political challenges, and we have survived. While we may not have achieved all the lofty dreams of our forebearers, we have not strayed too far from them. In 65 years since our Independence, we have made tremendous progress in economic growth, social cohesion, and physical development. Our economy has experienced significant growth since 1960. Although it is much easier for those whose vocation is to focus solely on what ought to be, we must recognise and celebrate our significant progress. Nigerians today have access to better education and healthcare than in 1960. At Independence, Nigeria had 120 secondary schools with a student population of about 130,000. By 2024, there were more than 23,000 secondary schools. At Independence, we had only the University of Ibadan and Yaba College of Technology as the two tertiary institutions. By 2024, we had 274 universities, 183 Polytechnics, and 236 Colleges of Education. We have grown in healthcare, infrastructure, financial services, manufacturing, telecommunications, information technology, aviation, and defence. We have also endured bitter times — a civil war, military dictatorships, and political crises — but each time, we survived and pressed forward. Fellow Compatriots, this is the third time I address you on Independence Day since assuming office on May 29, 2023. In 28 months, like our founding fathers, I have committed myself to the unfinished task of nation-building. Upon assuming office, we inherited a near-collapsed economy caused by decades of distortions. We had two choices: continue business as usual, or embark on courageous reforms. We chose reform. We ended the corrupt fuel subsidies and multiple foreign exchange rates. We redirected money to education, healthcare, security, agriculture, roads, power, broadband, and social programmes. Now, governments at all levels have more resources to serve the people. Economic Achievements (Highlights): GDP grew 4.23% in Q2 2025, the fastest in 4 years. Inflation declined to 20.12% in August 2025, lowest in 3 years. Non-oil revenue reached ₦20 trillion by August 2025. Debt service-to-revenue ratio cut from 97% to below 50%. External reserves rose to $42.03 billion, highest since 2019. Trade surplus for 5 straight quarters (₦7.46 trillion in Q2 2025). Oil production rebounded to 1.68m bpd. First domestic refining of PMS in 40 years. ₦330 billion disbursed to 8 million poor households. Rail, roads, airports, and seaports expanded (major projects ongoing). Stock market index jumped from 55,000 in May 2023 to 142,000 in Sept 2025. Interest rates cut for first time in 5 years. Security: Progress against terrorism, banditry, and violent crimes. Peace returning to many areas. Youth: Initiatives like NELFUND loans (510,000 students benefitted), Credicorp loans (₦30 billion disbursed), YouthCred for NYSC members, and iDICE to support creative and tech entrepreneurs. Message of Hope: The reforms brought short-term pain, but they prevent economic collapse. The true measure of success will be food on tables, better schools, steady power, and safer communities. Call to Action: Nigerians must embrace productivity, innovation, and enterprise. Support local goods, pay taxes, and join hands in building the nation. Closing: “With Almighty God on our side, I can assure you that the dawn of a new, prosperous, self-reliant Nigeria is here. Happy 65th Independence Anniversary, and may God continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” Signed: Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria --------------------------- A SUMMARY OF THE PRESIDENT'S SPEECH. THIS SUMMARY FOCUSES ON THE ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF HIS SPEECH. 🇳🇬 Economic Highlights from President Tinubu’s Independence Day Speech Reforms & Fiscal Stability: Administration removed fuel subsidies and ended multiple exchange rates, redirecting funds to education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social programmes. Revenue & Debt: Non-oil revenue hit ₦20 trillion by August, exceeding the 2025 target. Debt service-to-revenue ratio dropped from 97% to below 50%. Reserves & Trade: External reserves rose to $42.03 billion, the highest since 2019. Nigeria recorded five consecutive trade surpluses, with non-oil exports rising to 48% of total exports. Have you ever stopped and wondered… how does AI actually create these mind-blowing images? Let's say You type something detailed, like: “Create a realistic image of a young woman smiling warmly. She is wearing a red knit cardigan over a white shirt and is wearing a pair of glasses. She has her hair styled in neat braids. Her expression is one of genuine happiness and calm, with a broad and bright smile. The background is a simple, solid light gray, which puts the focus entirely on her and her joyful expression.” In just a few seconds, the AI delivers a nice image. It might look like magic, but it’s not. It’s the result of a clever step-by-step process. Let me break it down for you 👇 🔹 Step 1: Learning like a student: Before AI can “draw” anything, it first has to learn. Researchers have to feed it with millions of pictures. These pictures are carefully given descriptive captions. There could be pictures with captions like: A photo of a smiling woman with the note “woman smiling in glasses.” A picture of a red sweater with the note “knit cardigan.” Now, here’s something you might find interesting. As someone who studied Mathematics, I’ve always been in good terms with numbers. AI doesn’t “see” images the way we humans see images. It has to turn them into numbers. You probably already know that a computer’s native language is binary: zeros and ones. Yes, that’s the foundation. So instead of “seeing” the way we do, AI translates both text and images into numbers. And with enough training, it learns patterns. Over time, it builds a kind of memory map, so that when a user types a text like “red cardigan,” it recalls the shape, texture and color. When it sees “smile,” in a prompt, It remembers the arrangement of teeth, dimples and the muscles of the face. 🔹 Step 2: Understanding your request By now You should know that the more detailed a prompt is, the better the result. When you type a detailed prompt like the one I wrote at the beginning of this post, AI breaks it down like this: “young woman” → guides the AI to create female features with a youthful look. “smiling warmly” → shapes the expression into a broad, joyful smile. “red knit cardigan over a white shirt” → defines clothing type, texture, and color contrast. “glasses” → places an accessory on the face. “braids” / “neat hairstyle” → arranges the hair in an ordered, recognizable style. “light gray background” → sets a simple backdrop that keeps the focus on her face and smile. All these pieces come together to serve as AI’s step-by-step instructions for creating the image. 🔹 Step 3: Starting from chaos: This is another interesting part. AI doesn’t begin with a sketch. It starts with random static, like an old TV with no signal 📺. That “noise” is the AI's blank sheet of paper. If You ever watched Black and White Television, You would understand me. 🔹 Step 4: Creating meaning from the noise. Step by step, the AI removes noise and adds structure. It is guided by your words: At first, blurry patches looking like a person. Then it outlines of a face, hair and glasses. Later, the red cardigan and warm smile begin to pop. Finally, everything sharpens—the woman in her cardigan, her braids neatly styled, her joyful expression captured against a clean gray background. It’s almost like watching a photo slowly appear in a darkroom. A photo forming from a "negative". Photographers can relate. 😊 🔹 Step 5: Matching words to details The AI has a “focus system” to make sure every word in your prompt lands in the right spot. The word “cardigan” colors her outfit red—not the background. The word “smile” shapes her mouth, not her eyes. The word “gray background” ensures nothing distracts from her face. 🔹 Step 6: The imagination zone AI first works in a kind of “hidden space” that we can’t see. You can think of it like when a tailor first cuts cloth roughly before sewing it into a proper dress. In that hidden stage, the AI is arranging all the details like the braids, the red cardigan and the warm smile before finally bringing out the clean, finished picture you see. And that’s how the picture comes to life. Of course, It's not by magic, but by the AI learning from examples, turning noise into order and carefully arranging things step by step until the final image appears. So the next time you see an AI-generated image that feels so real or looks so nice, remember that it all began with the use of carefully chosen words. Have a lovely day. 😊
