jmaine:Well some historian and many of us would like to know it went down in pictures. Many of us still likes and celebrates the success PDP fraudulently denied our able President in 2003, 2007 and 2011. A good student in the school of history would value this and while you keep hating, our university students studying Political science now have references. Don't let your hating do the thinking for you my brother. 1 Like |

Politics / Fuel Subsidy: 1 Million Nigerians To Receive N5,000 Monthly by DExplorer1: 9:01pm On May 16, 2016 |
To assuage the anger of Nigerians over the increase in the price of premium motor spirit to N145 a litre, the Muhammadu Buhari administration has rolled out palliative measures running into half a trillion naira. Over eight million Nigerians will benefit from the programmes scheduled to begin in a matter of weeks. Highlights of the palliatives are: *5.5 million school children to be fed for 200 school days in first phase of homegrown school feeding programme *Over 1.6 million Nigerian traders, market women, men, artisans to receive loans. *1 million extremely poor and vulnerable Nigerians to receive N60,000 this year in 12 months payments of N5000 each. All together the federal government would be directly impacting the lives of more than 8 million Nigerians in different social investment 2016 budget spending that would provide succor and be a ready-made palliative to ordinary Nigerians. This disclosure was made last night by the Senior Special Assistant for Media & Publicity to the President, Mr. Laolu Akande, in an interaction with the press in Abuja. He gave new details and a breakdown of the interventions and palliatives, some of which he said would be starting in a matter of weeks thus: 1.*the direct payment of N5000 monthly to one million extremely poor Nigerians for 12 months as provided for in the 2016 budget for which N$68.7B has been appropriated. 2*the direct provision of very soft loan -cash for market women, men and traders, including artisans and Agric workers. This would be for a total of 1.76m Nigerians, without the requirement for conventional collateral. Some of the traders will likely get about N60,000. A total sum of N140.3B has already been appropriated for this in the budget, 3*payment of between N23,000 to N30,000 per month to 500,000 unemployed graduates who would be trained, paid and deployed to work as volunteer teachers, public health officers and extension service workers among other responsibilities. -They would also be given electronic devices to empower them technologically both for their assignments and beyond -similarly 100,000 artisans would also be trained and paid N191.5B has been set aside for this in the passed budget. 4. At least 5.5 million Nigerian primary school children -ie starting first in 18 states-three per geopolitical zones-would be fed for 200 school days under the free Homegrown School Feeding Programme. N93.1B has been appropriated for this in the 2016 budget. 5. 100,000 tertiary students in Science Technology Engineering & Maths-STEM, plus Education will partake in the N5.8B already provided for this education grant in the budget. This payment would also be paid directly to the students. When added together this year alone, more than 8 million Nigerians would be benefiting from the Social Investment budget. Akande who works from the Office of the Vice President said the N500B social investement programmes of the Buhari administration is a ready made palliative to lift Nigerians from poverty and economic hardship. “Long before now the Presidency has made adequate arrangements in the 2016 budget to ensure that Nigerians are lifted from poverty and hardship,” the spokesperson stated. This will not only assuage the current pains arising from the new fuel pricing regime, but will provide ongoing social safety nets for over 8 million Nigerians this year alone, according to Akande. He added that this is beside the jobs that would be created by the infrastructural projects that would be restored and the new ones that would soon be taking off. Said he: “the Buhari presidency is keen to ensure that Nigerians are lifted and that if necessary on an ongoing basis palliatives measures would always been considered to address the conditions of the people.” http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2016/05/15/1-million-nigerians-to-receive-n5000-monthly/ ********************************************************************************************** Nigerians should put their ears to the ground as these programmes are executed. We are under a more sincere government than ever. 34 Likes 5 Shares |
Politics / Re: House Of Reps Summons Ibe Kachikwu Over Fuel Subsidy Removal by DExplorer1: 8:02pm On May 16, 2016 |
saltoftheearth:I agree things are hard, even Kachickwu agreed. But also, if we check widely, it's a global problem. Most African oil producing nation are affected but it's not reflecting because they're NOT subsidizing. Again, the clampdown on corruption and sudden adjustment by involved individuals, companies can shake any economy since these people run the economy before now. Campaign promises are gradually kept, i can tick 4 visible promises kept already within the one-year of Buhari's Administration. I don't agree if you say there is no fuel, there are more supplies now. The Kaduna, Warri and Portharcourt refineries are working at full capacity and i've not seen queue anywhere in the last few weeks. When Kachikwu said May on National TV, i was listening and i heard him right. The goal post was not shifted. He said there would be relief from May and that queue will disappear from fuel stations. My brother, he was right! Lastly, talking about money recovered by the EFCC, i had wait till May 29 for the president to inform us articulately on how the money has been spent. But if you ask me, putting a dead refinery to work is million in dollars. Also, we can't stop importing fuel until we get all refineries working at full capacity. Nigeria is the highest consumption of petroleum products, considering our population and not importing is total break-down and so far, from what Kachikwu said, we have 3 companies we dealing with and it's in naira exchange price basis not in dollars. There's no quick fix to Nigeria's problems, this administration met them on ground and is working to fix them. |

ochukwuma15:I think we shouldn't get these things twisted. Whether it's subsidy removal or sector deregulation, it all lay claim to the fact that extra payment for oil products to marketers by the federal government has been stopped. Which in common word we can say it's subsidy removal, no one can deny that. I also protested in 2012, April. Infact, i was part of the SNG team at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park. You see, the difference is that, in 2012, removal of fuel subsidy was a fraud. The government on ground was not sincere on how the returns from the action would be distributed. The structures were not on ground and we were seeing corruption face-to-face. But now, it's more of a project and of course the government is very sincere via the anti-corruption campaign and also there are structures on ground. I can say we have a working government. I believe in the next few months, Nigerians will see the benefits. |

saltoftheearth:Gbajabiamila is right! All the states depend on allocation before they can do anything. I think the last time i saw a creative state project that can generate income was the building of the Tinapa Business Resort. To rely on allocation has been the circle and even if they come up with ideas and strategies, don't you think that will reduce state allocation? I guess they've been thinking like that. Talking about the senators, i would have prefer the unrealistic protest of labour to be directed toward the salaries, cars and whotnot those people enjoy than destructing the on-going progressive process in the oil sector. Also i think the government is on the right track. They got this right. I heard Kachikwu said over N1billion has been saved since the removal of fuel subsidy. I believe part of this money would be channeled toward the power project also, besides, there will be more money to power various federal projects and payment of civil servants' salaries. 1 Like |

ochukwuma15:I really don't think anyone would want to sell at N90 or N95 considering the CBN exchange rate and the fact that marketers would want to exploit the situation. But the good part of it is the sales limit of N145. Maybe, just maybe, a strong competition would make fuel stations bring their prices down. A typical example is, if you sell at N135 and i sell at N145, i'm sure you will be taking most of my 'customers.' To your 2nd question, there will be little or no queue at our petrol stations and the product will be very available. As concerning meters been adjusted, well, that's a Nigerian factor we're talking as i'm sure that many of them have fuel in their tanks before the pronouncement. |

neocortex:Well, if subsidy was a scam there are marketers demanding their money now and some uneducated Nairalanders are blaming the government for removing subsidy when there's debt on ground. I accept it's scam but there are people behind this scam and they are people that praying the refinery project fails, they can't be overlooked in my opinion. You can call them the cabals but this move of subsidy removal has crippled them. 1 Like 1 Share |
