Politics › Re: Central Bank Stopped Naira From Appreciating To ₦1000/$ – Shetttima by dfrost: 11:22pm On Feb 25
Counselor123:
Let me share my thought on this. You see those fx in dollars, pounds, Euros in those banks that they think are available for domestic consumptions, they will be diverted and spent offshore because the value would not mean much to the local currency when exchanged. So, it is a give and take thing. Economic managementcan be complex
Bottom line, VP was not supposed to make that utterance. It's not in his place.

Richtaiwo:
This makes absolutely no sense to me, unless there’s some secret dictionary defining what I just read.

CBN deliberately slowing appreciation of the naira? For what exactly?
The VP should stick to what he knows and understands.

Yesterday was CBN MPC. Before such meetings, there's always speculation and speculations give rise to price fluctuations.

Not this type of talks.

helinues:
Lagos state has been reducing transportation price for long now that they want to increase, it shouldn't be a news except from the mischievous people

13% increase shouldn't be a big deal or
Depending on the route, should be between ₦78 to ₦117 increase. That's an average of ₦98 per trip, approximately ₦4,116 per month on a 21 working days month average.

Not much agreed. However, if the individual has not experienced any increase in salary, it can be major to that individual. Think about it.

Business › Re: Do Banks Sell These Mint Notes To POS Merchants? by dfrost: 1:13pm On Feb 23
obembet:
I’ve noticed that almost all the POS merchants in my area always have mint ₦200, ₦500, and even ₦100 notes. Yet, I’ve tried several times to get mint notes myself, especially for important occasions, but they’re nowhere to be found.

Now, POS merchants are charging as much as 35% of your money just to give you mint notes.

Imagine paying ₦20,000 just to get ₦50,000 in mint ₦200 notes.

Why is this currency so easily available to POS merchants but so difficult for ordinary Nigerians to access?

Source: obembe Tosin
Sister obembet, which special occasions, edakun? To spray abi? What's the economic importance of the mint notes?

ChiefOloye:
Then this quote must be peculiar to Nigerian big men, because in a normal corporate setting — especially in publicly listed companies — ownership determines control. If a company like the Dangote Refinery were to open up its shares widely to the public, and no single individual retained majority control, then technically a shareholder or a coordinated group of shareholders could acquire enough shares (over 50% or at least a controlling stake) to influence or even take over the company’s management and board decisions.
However, in reality, that may not be possible especially in environments like Nigeria, because major conglomerates are often structured in a way that preserves founder control.
51% for controlling stake.

SA and Nigeria already have a strained relationship and this message from Bolt SA can be perceived with the mindset of that situation.
Exactly 💯 my point. It's more like Bolt SA is telling SA Government 'don't worry, we'll do well to fight the fight for you'. That's totally wrong.
Crime › Re: Bolt SA Confirms Slain Nigerian Driver Was Operating Illegally by dfrost: 9:26am On Feb 18
Lionessza6:
I understand why it feels unnecessary. But when something like this happens, a company thinks about possible claims or lawsuits.

If there is any question about visa rules or platform rules, they will clarify it early to protect themselves legally. It may sound cold, but companies act to reduce liability and avoid future legal problems. And this has nothing to do with the SA government. The SA government did their part , apprehending the perpetrators.
The lawsuit wasn't coming for them. Why bother? This is a crime against the state. It's murder. They have nothing to protect.

If it was he that committed a crime 🫆, then their statement would be in order to deny him as a lawful employee/partner to the service. In this case, it's a no-no.

Bolt SA goofed on this one. A spade 🪏 is not a shovel.

God will have mercy on us. Many of us always read news with emotional. They said he was using the app illegally, they don't say they are happy for the incident. Let always read to comprehend. Haba.
There was no need for the rejoinder. If he committed a crime, I will agree with them releasing that statement of him operating the service illegally.

At least they didn't say he was an illegal migrant. That comment is a blow to his family and made it seem his death was justified.

It's totally out of place. Looking like SA government officials forcing them to add more to make the killing justified.

Anything just to stay relevant. The urge and pressure to be in the news, compete with younglings is funny.

At 40, you become a positive role model. If you have finished the first phase of life 🧬 early, then hit the research mindset. Solve a problem in your community, state, country or region. Then it will impact the world.
