HealthFunctional Foods:you Need To Know These Stuff by diet29(op): 1:08pm On Apr 22, 2015
Functional food is any food that has a positive effect on a person's health. Food is either an antioxidant, detoxifying, blocking or suppressing agents. We will start with the antioxidant agents.

Normal functioning of cells depends on the proper balance of pro-oxidant and antioxidants, the former promotes the release of oxygen to provide energy for cells while the latter, helps to neutralise and counteract free radicals. Free radicals could promote lipid per-oxidation of the membrane lipids. Note that natural antioxidants are easily absorbable in the human system. We have talked so much about antioxidants foods on CNB(you can read our previous CNB Fruity/Veg posts).

Let us look at Some Functional Foods with Antioxidant agents.

Tea and Coffee: A cup of tea supplies around 200mg of flavonoids, the antioxidant potency in a cup of tea is 400% greater than a cup of orange juice.

Studies have shown that colon cancer appears to show negative association with tea consumption. polyphenols can stop the damage that free radicals do to cells, it will also neutralize enzymes that are essential for tumour growth, then deactivate cancer promoters.

HealthSee These Common Indoor Air Pollutants:avoid Them by diet29(op): 9:45am On Apr 21, 2015
What you breathe should be as important as where you sleep. Your lungs are one of those "critical" organs and should be treated with care. And if the air pollutants can find anything to harm in the lungs, they can move right into the bloodstream and have access to every organ. Like we say on CNB, always maintain a healthy and safe environment. It is the key to a disease-free life.

Here are some common indoor air Pollutants to avoid::

Household products like Formaldehyde, paints and cleaners: Watch out for benzene, methylene chloride and perchloroethylene. dispose when no longer needed. Buy limited quantities and always heed warning labels.

Stoves, Heaters and Chimneys: Use exhaust fans over stoves. Adjust burners properly. Have your heating system, chimney and stoves inspected for damage. Repair any damage immediately.

Pesticides: Always follow label instructions. Ventilate after use. Use non-chemical pest control when possible and dispose of pesticides properly.

HealthSee The Hot Reply Some1 Posted On My Blog About D Post I Did On Frsc Officers!! by diet29(op): 11:20am On Apr 10, 2015
All these one na story!..... police is far better than FRSC PRwise. Can u imagine that a f#####g FRS officer would stand in the middle of a highway flagging a vehicle to pullover, nt even stop, pullover! as if na jazz!!. A police officer can never do that! Instead he would stop u, greet u n ask u to pullover if necessary. Bt an FRS officer would never do dt! CNB, there's this incident that happened some years bk that made me swore never to stop at any FRSC checkpoint or even pullover! I'm a very cautious driver n take good care of any car I drive n make sure It's road worthy at any point in time. That fateful morning I discovered my brake light wasn't working, n I was in my village, I checked d bulbs n all were ok so I guessed it was an electrical fault, so I called my electrician n he asked me to bring it over. I set out on d 1hr journey, n during this journey, I made sure I was driving safe signaling with my hand wen necessary because I knw I didn't hv a brake light. Less than 2km to my destination I met a FRSC checkpoint, I ws asked to pullover, which I did. The officer started his routine check n discovered dt my brake light wasn't working. I tried explaining to him dt I was actually going to my electrician to fix it, Bt he turned deaf ears to me. I even called my electrician to come over n explain to him Bt this officer didn't even listen to him. I was booked at d end of the day n was fined 3k + all d stress. I felt so bad dt day because there were also a lot of commercial buses without visible back lights nt to talk of having a brake light, Bt these officers dnt even stop them. So, CNB tell me y I shld ever stop at any FRSC checkpoint? I hope their ogas at d top would read this n create a forum to train their staff. Their PR is very poor! Bt until then, I would never ever stop at any FRSC checkpoint!

HealthToday Is World Health Day:see The Priciples Of Food Safety By WHO by diet29(op): 10:28am On Apr 07, 2015
WHO says that World Health Day 2015 is a chance to recognize the food safety role of all those involved in food production and to strengthen collaboration and coordination among these areas in order to prevent, detect and respond to foodborne diseases efficiently.

World Health Day is celebrated each year on April 7 and the team for this year is focused on FOOD SAFETY.

Collette Nature Blog, CNB, advocate for safe food and good hand washing routines because food contaminated with bacteria, salmonella, viruses e.t.c can lead to disability and death.....these are the WHO principles in food handling......
HealthOvercoming Depression-part2 by diet29(op): 6:10pm On Apr 06, 2015
—The Story of a young woman who battled depression
Beginning in my early teen years‚ I battled depression a lot. In my late teens and early 20s, it just got worse. It seemed that every attack of depression I had was stronger in intensity and lasted longer than the previous one, till my last attack of depression lasted over four weeks. I was never able to pinpoint the exact trigger for my depression, or find any pattern in determining how or why it would come on. It would seem to come on with no warning, and I felt like ten thousand tons of bricks just fell on me and I couldn’t get out from under them no matter what I tried. I would usually try to keep up on my work and struggle through, despite how I was feeling, and tried to ignore it.

HealthYou Think That Drug Is Fake?..check The Pin by diet29(op): 11:23am On Apr 01, 2015
Fake medicines are a major problem in parts of Africa - but a mobile phone based scheme which allows patients - and doctors - to check drugs are real is expanding fast.

With the M-Pedigree scheme, the customer scratches the medication package to reveal a code which they send to a free number.

They then receive a text back that lets them know if the item is genuine or counterfeit.

M-Pedigree was formally launched in Ghana in 2007 and it has expanded to Nigeria and East Africa and India.

The hope is that by using technologies like M-Pedigree and other software, consumers can focus on getting better, rather than worrying if they have purchased a fake medication or product.

HealthYou May Be ADDICTED If You Do Any Of These...(a Must Read) by diet29(op): 11:10am On Apr 01, 2015
People can be addicted to different things, it could be drugs, alcohol and other weird stuffs like inhaling poo!..oh yes, I mean poo.

Also, your doctor can prescribe a particular medicine, the thinking goes, how can it possibly be harmful? if it wasn't harmful, the physician wouldn't prescribe it. Many very helpful medications commonly prescribed by doctors are safe if you take them exactly the the way it should be taken. If taken in higher dosages or for a longer time, however, these same medications can quickly turn addictive and even lethal because they affect the same brain area as crack drugs.

Another bad source of addiction is alcohol, some people can down heavy crates of booze or a bottle of wine like it's no big deal, and they will insist that they're not alcoholics. "After all, I'm not stumbling and falling around or dragging my words or blacking out," they usually say. "I have a high tolerance, a strong system."(what ever that means...Lol)

In reality, their words show just the opposite. They do have serious wahala, in fact, a really big one.....

There are many ways to eat healthy, the best way is to plan meals in relation to other foods per day. It is better to eat small regular meals rather than one huge meal.
