Politics / Critical Infrastructure: Enugu Govt Approves Over N2.5 Billion by digicoon: 5:58pm On Jan 30, 2020
…To purchase five rapid intervention vehicles, fence forest reserve centre at Okpara Square

…As Gov. Ugwuanyi hands over five modern fire fighting trucks to state fire service

In continuation with its renewed efforts to provide more critical infrastructure in the state, the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, has approved the execution of development projects worth over N2.5 billion.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting of the State Executive Council (EXCO), the Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, disclosed that the Council approved the construction of access and internal road networks at Golf Estate Annex, at Ngwuagu Amaezike, Abor, in Udi Local Government Area of the state, at the cost of N2,082,131,025.35.

Aroh who briefed the journalists, alongside the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Greg Nnaji and their Finance and Economic Development counterpart, Mrs. Adaonah kene-Uyanwune, added that the council also approved the construction/rehabilitation of Manuwa Street, GRA, Enugu and Agbalaenyi junction-Enugu-Onitsha Expressway link road at Oji River LGA, at the cost of N200,414,307.00.

The information commissioner stated that the council approved the construction of 24-unit of one-bedroom flats at old Government Lodge, Enugu, at the cost of N137,500,915.00, to serve as a support facility for the ongoing 10-unit guest houses, nearing completion.

Equally approved by the council were the construction of high double cell box culvert and drainage work at Umuchigbo Nike, Enugu East LGA and fencing of the forest reserve, adjacent to Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, now known as Unity Park.

The park, which will serve as a tourist attraction as well as a place for relaxation and recreation, is currently witnessing massive beautification with works of art, construction of artificial water pond and a monumental roaring lion of about 30ft high and 60ft length, among others.

Aroh stated that the council also approved the construction of a Chapel of Worship at the Government House, Enugu and the immediate purchase of five (5) rapid intervention vehicles in keeping with the state government’s commitment to protect lives and property of people of the state.

He explained that the customized intervention vehicles with emergency rescue facilities will be purchased directly from John Holt Nig. Plc, to tackle fire, health and accident emergency challenges in the state “in line with the state government’s sustained commitment to provide for the safety of Enugu people.

“These come in small trucks and are very important because they make shorter runs, get quicker to emergency scenes and more difficult places”, Aroh said.

The commissioner further disclosed that the intervention vehicles will complement the five fire fighting trucks procured earlier by Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration for the five newly constructed fire service stations across the state, which were formally handed over to the state fire service by the governor, on Thursday.

Other Council approvals, were the purchase of 1000KVA generator for ESUT Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu, and the approval of the report of the joint committee for the negotiation of consequential adjustment for payment of N30,000 Minimum Wage for state civil servants, which the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Mrs. Uyanwune and the state leadership of Organized Labour, said was a product of collective bargaining, based on the economic indices of the state.

In his submission, the works and infrastructure commissioner, Engr. Nnaji, assured that his ministry will utilize the construction weather window available to actualize the approved project in record time.

Enugu State is in the hands of God! # #

Nice one
DavidEsq:
For those who do not know Frederick (McCarthy) Forsyth, he is the author of the book titled "Emeka". It's a book on Ojukwu. For the OP, I beg to differ from your that Frederick's conscience has began to work due to his steep age. Frederick resigned his job as a reporter to cover the Nigerian civil war for 3 whole years because he noticed his employers were only concerned with a 3-week report of the civil, yet reported the Vietnam war throughout the period it lasted, his instincts told him that there was something fishy about the Nigerian civil war. He resigned his job and flew down to Nigeria. That was how he found out that the war was fought by mercenaries hired by the Nigerian government. France gave Biafra support, due to her experience with the French revolution. Frederick was not one to quote another. He was one to visit the scene and make a dispassionate report. I read most of his books when I was a child: "dogs of war, the devil's alternative, clear and present danger, the shepherd, Emeka, the Biafran soldier (I didn't finish it), the forth protocol, the day of the jackal,", etc. He introduced me to a world of soldiers of fortune (mercenaries) who fought all over Africa, on any side. He African politics like the back of his hand and his analysis of the African soldier vis-a-vis the western soldier is apt and void of sentiment. He is a mountain of knowledge and I envy the walls of his house, which I believe have all the greatest books.

Crime / Frederick Forsyth Atacks Britain: You Committed Crimes Against Igbo by digicoon: 7:25am On Jan 29, 2020
Frederick McCarthy Forsyth, the English journalism and author, will be 82 this year. He was born on 25 August 1938. At such age when a man is moving closer to his grave or Maker, his conscience becomes sharper, his propensity for remorse gets greater. He tends to make all past crooked ways straight. He confesses his sins or does so vicariously- that is, on behalf of his clan or community or country.

That is exactly what Frederick Forsyth has done, blaming his country, Britain, for its bias against the Igbo during the Nigeria-Biafra war that spanned three years, 1967 to 1970. Another Briton who became contrite was Harold Smith, a colonial officer who admitted that Britain deliberately made the North to dominate the South here in all ramifications, using well choreographed policies of demography, appointments and politics.

Forsyth is a household name in the Commonwealth countries and beyond for thrillers such as The Day of the Jackal, The Odessa File, The Fourth Protocol, The Dogs of War, The Devil’s Alternative, The Fist of God, Icon, The Veteran, Avenger, The Afghan, The Cobra, The Kill List, The Biafra Story and others.

It was when he covered the war in Nigeria as a BBC correspondent that the bias of Britain became clear to him. He revealed this in a recent article in The Guardian of London: “Buried for 50 years: Britain’s shameful role in the Biafran war.”

It was for this reason that the writer walked away from the BBC, narrating, “Six months later, in February 1968, fed up with the slavishness of the BBC to Whitehall, I walked out and flew back to west Africa. Ojukwu roared with laughter and allowed me to stay. My condition was that, having rejected British propaganda, I would not publish his either. He agreed.”

In the article, Forsyth reveals the sins of Britain: “I arrived in the Biafra capital of Enugu on the third day of the war. In London I had been copiously briefed by Gerald Watrous, head of the BBC’s West Africa Service. What I did not know was that he was the obedient servant of the government’s Commonwealth Relations Office (CRO), which believed every word of its high commissioner in Lagos, David Hunt. It took two days in Enugu to realise that everything I had been told was utter garbage.

“I had been briefed that the brilliant Nigerian army would suppress the rebellion in two weeks, four at the most. Fortunately the deputy high commissioner in Enugu, Jim Parker, told me what was really happening. It became clear that the rubbish believed by the CRO and the BBC stemmed from our high commissioner in Lagos. A racist and a snob, Hunt expected Africans to leap to attention when he entered the room – which Gowon did. At their single prewar meeting Ojukwu did not. Hunt loathed him at once.

Because the truth is; it doesn’t have to be so complicated.

Making money with carefully crafted niche blogs isn’t all that difficult to do. In fact, if you are looking for a fast and easy way to set up shop so that you can start to make money online without a great investment, blogging is the way to go.

Creating high quality blogs in your niche or industry that generate traffic, and provide valuable content and information to your market is also one of the most effective methods of building a presence of authority and establishing yourself within your industry so incredible profit margins aside; blogging puts you in a great position within your market.

And guess what? The best part about this strategy is that it’s also exceptionally easy to do and is very cost effective. It doesn’t cost a lot of money to set up a blog. In fact, the majority of work will involve your time – not your cash.

So, without further delay – let’s jump right in!

The Truth About Blogging

Here’s the truth about 6-figure blogging: While blogging can be automated (eventually), you shouldn’t expect income to be passive from the get-go. You’ll have to work at it, especially when you are launching your blog and building a platform that you want to be recognized in your market.

When I first started blogging I was spending 30-50 hours a month creating content, converting visitors into email subscribers, and selling products and services (none of which I created myself – I focused entirely on affiliate marketing. More on that later.

While I eventually outsourced most of my content to skilled writers, I still spend time evaluating advertising options, reviewing products that I can promote, building my mailing list and creating ad campaigns to boost traffic and keep my blogs in the forefront.

While you can delegate many tasks to a team, such as content creation and even marketing, you will want to be directly involved in the initial building phase. This is your brand, after all. You need to make sure every piece of content has your voice, carries your message and represents your business in the best possible way.

No one will ever be as careful and professional with building your blog as you will be, right? So, dig your heels in and commit to spending the first few months building your blog from the ground floor up. Then, and only then, should you begin to create a team that will help you manage your blog and eventually, expand into other avenues with other niche-based blogs (if you choose to do that).

Again, in no way is blogging a hands free method of making money during the INITIAL stages. You must be prepared to put in some time and effort if you truly want to succeed.

But the good news? Your hard work will pay off.

The 5-Step Formula

While there are countless reports and articles that over complicated the process of making money with blogging, here’s a basic overview of how it’s done:

1: Create a blog and register a memorable domain. Avoid remotely hosted options. You need to be in full control of your website so you can take advantage of all the different revenue options with no limitations (or other people’s advertisements).

2: Write (or outsource) killer content that will generate traffic and drive visitors in. This content needs to be extremely high-quality, targeted and informative. All meat, no veggies.

3: Convert your visitors into email subscribers so you can build your list. A newsletter is key in building a successful blog online. Scratch that; a newsletter is essential to be successful in nearly ANY market online. You will never make as much money without one.

4: Communicate with those subscribers regularly so your lists don’t run cold. Build rapport and trust. Nurture relationships with your market. This is where you can build a recognized brand as an authority in your market and set yourself apart from the competition (especially those bloggers who aren’t doing this!).

5: Sell products and services to your audience via your blog and through your newly cultivated newsletter.

Sounds easy enough, right? It is. But it will take time.

I will talk more about each of these steps in my next post. Stay tuned...
