West Ham have moved closer to signing Liverpool's Craig Bellamy after holding talks with the Wales striker.
BBC Sport understands Bellamy met West Ham officials on Thursday and will agree a £70,000-a-week contract.

Liverpool and West Ham will now hold fresh negotiations about a fee after an initial £7m bid was turned down.

Bellamy, 28, is rated at £8m, and a swap with West Ham's Yossi Benayoun has stalled over Liverpool's valuation of the Israel midfield star.

West Ham would be happy to do a straight exchange between the two players, but Liverpool believe Benayoun is only rated at around £3.5m.

Bellamy has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield following boss Rafael Benitez's summer signings of Fernando Torres and Andriy Voronin.

He would help to plug any gap at Upton Park left by the possible departure of Argentina international Carlos Tevez to Manchester United.

The Wales captain joined Liverpool from Blackburn for £6m in June 2006.

After starting his career with Norwich City, he has also had stints with Coventry City, Newcastle United, plus a loan spell at Celtic.

Bellamy scored nine goals in 42 appearances for the Reds.

But the addition of £20m signing Torres this week means Liverpool have five senior strikers on their books - with Bellamy, Peter Crouch, Dirk Kuyt and fellow new-boy Voronin making up the total.

Asked, at the unveiling of Torres, if he was happy the player was at the club and part of his plans, Benitez said: "Are you talking about Torres?"

Told Bellamy was the subject, he said: "I'm really happy with Torres here."

He added: "We have some clubs asking about Bellamy and it's a possibility.

"He knows my idea. He is our player at the moment and we will see what happens in the future.

"It is clear we have new players here and then it could be more difficult for some of the players.

"The only thing I can say is that Crouch will be staying with us. I have said to Crouch that he must fight for his position and he will stay with us."

Striker Djibril Cisse is already close to the exit door as he is set to be sold to Marseille after a spell on loan at the French club.

Benitez played down a move for Manchester United left-back Gabriel Heinze and instead insisted he was trying to sign new wingers.

The Reds boss believes he needs to add to the signing of Torres to help his side challenge for the Premier League title.

"It is clear we need to improve to be contenders. You will ask if we can fight for the title with Torres. I think we need something more," he stated.

"It is clear we will improve with Fernando but if we can find other players good enough I think we will have better balance.

"When you talk about the Premier League you talk about nine months and you need a big squad.

"We have some names. We are especially looking for wingers."

Derby have agreed a £3m deal to sign Sheffield United's Claude Davis, subject to the defender passing a medical and receiving a work permit.
The Jamaican defender, 28, spent only one season at Bramall Lane and will be reunited with his former boss at Preston, Billy Davies.

Davis is the Rams' third summer signing after Tyrone Mears and Wales striker Robert Earnshaw moved to Pride Park.

He will sign a four-year deal after an injury-troubled season with the Blades.

I can't see how people can be so stupid to think Hantuchova could've won that set. It was obvious Serena would've won it had it been she had not sustained that injury. I hope Venus wins this tournament to laugh in their faces.

here is how I see it some ppl are just not happy a Black is winning here and in other tournaments too. Take for instance Maria Navratilova saying Venus has no right to judge Serena since she does not know whats going on in her head, she made this comments after Venus defended Serena and praised her for her bravery. and then these comments by these racist scums posted by davidylan. Its a shame we still see this kind of thing happening. Sharapova and some other players on the tour scream too when playing why is it when it comes to the sisters all hell breaks loose.

Tuncay's transfer to Middlesbrough has been finalised after he was granted a work permit.

The Turkey international agreed a four-year deal with Boro last month and then returned to his native country to wait for his application to be processed.

He is now expected to join up with his new team-mates in time to fly out for a pre-season tour of Austria.

Tuncay joins on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Fenerbahce.

Gareth Southgate has also brought in Jeremie Aliadier this summer and completed the permanent signing of Jonathan Woodgate, but he still wants his squad to have greater strength in depth.

"All I can say is we are actively looking to improve the team and improve the squad," said the Boro manager.

"We have been watching several different players in different positions.

"Obviously at right-full-back we have lost Abel Xavier and Stuart Parnaby, and Tony McMahon is still recovering from a broken leg, so we are very short of cover and competition in that position, although we have some good youngsters coming through.

"I still feel we need to add a couple of players. We are looking very much to do that over the coming weeks, and the sooner we can get them in, the better.

"But it is great to have, with Jonathan, three new signings in place already, and to know we have built already on what we did last season."

West Ham have confirmed that they have agreed to sell captain Nigel Reo-Coker to Aston Villa for a fee of £8.5million.

The deal is still subject to the midfielder agreeing personal terms and passing a medical at Villa Park, but the London club expect the England Under 21 international to complete his move to the Midlands.

Reo-Coker endured a difficult time at Upton Park last season as he was targeted by the club's fans following a dismal campaign for The Hammers, and handed in a transfer request following the club's unlikely survival.

Villa had long been expected to seal the signing of the former Wimbledon trainee and were reported to have tabled a bid before the European Under 21 Championship in Holland, during which Reo-Coker excelled for Stuart Pearce's side.

Now Martin O'Neill will have the chance to discuss personal terms with Reo-Coker after agreeing a deal that signals Villa's intent to push for a European place next

Lyon are weighing up a 'strong offer' from Chelsea for Florent Malouda, a spokesman for the French club has revealed.

The Blues have been linked with Malouda for some time and the midfielder announced on Tuesday that he was confident a deal would go through.

He claimed he had agreed terms with Chelsea after speaking with Jose Mourinho and said Lyon were ready to let him go.

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas responded by saying Chelsea 'may not have the desire or the means' to push trough a deal, but they are now considering an improved bid.

"Chelsea have come back with a strong offer and Jean-Michel Aulas could meet a Chelsea official in the next few hours," the spokesman said.

Malouda, who was voted Ligue 1 player of the year last season, is understood to have left Lyon's training camp in the French Alps.

Reports in the French press suggest Chelsea have lodged an offer of €18.5million (£12.5million).
