Gradual subsidy removal has been the norm since the seventies. As soon as the rising production cost makes it impossible to sustain subsidy at a certain point, government gradually reduces it which results in increased prices, that are still below the production cost
(That is how fuel rose from 15 kobo in 1981 to 400 naira by 2023)

That is how we lost four refineries. Keeping subsidy costs low meant that maintenance costs were reduced. And then corruption was a byproduct of the thing.

PO talked about gradual removal of subsidy, fighting oil theft, fight corruption in public offices, fighting insecurity to a minimal level, massive agricultural production, reducing cost of governance and shifting the economy from Oil dependence to production. These are more robust solutions to the montrous fuel subsidy.

I doubt that nigerians want to have a developed economy. If we did, we would have voted in a leader with a plan to get us off oil, and get us industrialized.
