If you try to board a flight in the US going out of the country, an officer askss you how much you have on you. If you claim that you are carrying less than 10k but when searched they found more than that, you will forfeit the money right there.

If you have money in your account that you cannot satisfactorily explain how you came about, the govt can move for a forfeiture without charging you with any offense.
If a police officer pulls you over and he sees a large sum of money, the county can take you to court for forfeiture if you cannot satisfactorily explain the source of the funds. That does not mean that you will or have been charged with any criminal offense.
Tinubu was forced to forfeit money in his account because he could not explain its source to the court's satisfaction. He was never charged with any crime. If Tinubu was ever charged with any crime, it can be easily checked on the DOJ website.
