Fact is, we did not remove subsidy in 2012, when we should have. The result was that government was forced to borrow to And that created a massive debt, and also forced the Buhari government to raid the forex reserves...just to pay for the subsidy.

The result was the subsidy being removed to at least allow the government have some spending money, otherwise things would have really been bad.

Most African countries charge as high as NIgeria, most even higher. Only five african countries have some form of subsidy on fuel, and even those, (apart from Libya that can pay for subsides and refinery upkeep without breaking a sweat because they have a very small population)...maintain it at the expense of debt. If all African countries subsidsied fuel like we do, even the oil producers, they would have collapsed economically ages ago.

Choose your wickedness...removal of subsidy with harsh price increases but the chance of improved domestic refining and more jobs, and no more borrowing to fund subsidy, or maintianing subsidy with the borrowing it entails.

1. What is an IPO?
An IPO means a company is offering part of its ownership to the public for the first time.
So, instead of Dangote and other existing owners owning the refinery alone, members of the public can buy shares and become part-owners.
2. How much is one share?
Each share costs:
₦525
3. What is the minimum amount you can invest?
You must buy at least 10 shares.
So:
₦525 × 10 = ₦5,250
This means you can potentially become a shareholder in Dangote Refinery with as little as ₦5,250 (excluding possible transaction fees).
4. How many shares are being offered?
Dangote Refinery is offering approximately:
4.1 billion shares
to investors.
5. How much money does Dangote want to raise?
The company hopes to raise over:
₦2 trillion
from investors.

Imagine Dangote Refinery is a very large cake. Previously, only Dangote and existing investors owned the cake.
