PoliticsA Non-governmental Group Demands Immediate Release Of Dasuki. by Djsticks(op): 7:20pm On Dec 28, 2017
A Non-Governmental Organization under the aegis of Citizens Initiative for Security Awareness, CISA, on Thursday, said it has noted with grave concern, the continuous illegal detention of the former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki, Retd, by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

CISA, in a statement it issued in Abuja, said it was perturbed that Dasuki has been in detention for two years without legal justification by the Federal Goverment.

The group which said it was engaged in creating and spreading awareness on public security among Nigerians, urged FG to respect four separate court orders that directed Dasuki’s release from detention.

It maintained that the ex-NSA was not charged with treasonable offences to warrant his perpetual detention in custody of the Department of State Service, DSS, since December 29, 2015.

CISA decried that inspite of the subsisting bail orders, Dasuki “was never allowed to visit his ailing father until he passed on”.

The statement which was jointly signed by the group’s Director of Mobilization, Mr. Ewache Ajefu and its Director Northern Operations, Mr. Aliyu Ibrahim, read in part: “We the members of CISA have noted with grave concern, the continuous illegal detention of the former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (Rtd).

As a matter of fact, Friday, December 29 2017, will make it exactly two years that he was arrested and detained on the orders of the Federal Government. The reason adduced for his arrest and detention was that he misappropriated funds while in office as the National Security Adviser; he was also accused of illegal possession of firearms, 24 hours after leaving office.

As a foremost civil society group that has always stood behind and canvassed public support for the Nigerian government and its military in their fight against terror (even when it was fashionable for some disgruntled politicians and a section of the media to ridicule those efforts), CISA would like to strongly counsel the government against further detention of the erstwhile NSA.

Without prejudice to the case in court or the charges against him, CISA recalls that bold initiatives and success stories were also recorded during his tenure as the NSA; these, among others include, the formation of Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) which helped to muster the support of neighboring countries in the war on terror; the launching of the National Counter Terrorism Strategy (NACTEST) as the Soft Approach to counter violent extremism. These bold initiatives which has been sustained till date, are geared towards knowing the root causes of terrorism, understanding the problem of terrorism and finding appropriate and lasting solution.

Yes, those charges against him are infractions of the law and we are not holding brief for him if he is found guilty but none of them are unbailable treasonable offences that should warrant the flagrant flouting of over four court orders to release him on bail.

We recall that Justice Adeniyi Ademola and Justice Mohammed of the Federal High Court, as well as Justice Baba Yusuf and Justice Peter Afem of the FCT High Courts, had considered the merit of his applications and granted him bail.

In the same vein, the ECOWAS Court of Justice, after listening to the case, ordered for his immediate release with compensation of N15million for the unlawful and illegal detentions. Despite these orders by these courts of competent jurisdictions, the government has inexplicably kept him behind bars.

It is therefore the contention of CISA that since the offences for which he is detained and has suffered humiliations do not border on treason, Mr Dasuki should be given the opportunity to state his own side of the story in the court of law, so that if he is eventually found guilty, let the law properly take its course.

We believe that it is no longer tenable to keep him behind bars ad infinitum on the whims of whoever is keeping him. He is entering the third year in detention, and unless it is the plan of President Buhari to keep him out of circulation for the entire period of his four-year term, we of CISA, demand his immediate release and urge men and women of goodwill to join us in making this fair demand.

SportsMatch Highlight: Newcastle 0 - 1 Man City, All Goals And Highlights (download) by Djsticks(op): 5:49am On Dec 28, 2017
Manchester City extended the lead at the top of the Premier League to 15 points after a Raheem Sterling goal fired them to victory against Newcastle United.

Raheem Sterling put City 1-0 ahead at St James’ Park after latching onto a superb assist from Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian midfielder clipped a lovely ball over the top of the Newcastle defense for Sterling to poke home on the 31st minute.

Not everything went to plan however for City in the first-half with Vincent Kompany limping off after just eleven minutes to be replaced by Gabriel Jesus as Fernandinho dropped back to cover at centre-back.

City extended their incredible winning record in the Premier League to 18 matches and it appears that Pep Guardiola’s side really cannot be stopped.

PoliticsOsun State Workers Embarked On A Total Indefinite Strike. by Djsticks(op): 7:42pm On Dec 27, 2017
Following the Osun state Labour leaders announcement on Friday, last week, over modulated salary, lack of promotion, others and the threat to embark on strike if their problems were not attended to by the government, the organization leader led by the chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress in Osun, Mr. Jacob Adekomi, Wednesday led other unions’ leaders to the State Secretariat at Abere to shut down the place as workers commenced the indefinite strike.

It was gathered that the NLC chairman, the chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers, Mr. Amudah Wakeel and other Labour leaders stormed the secretariat gate as early as 7am on Wednesday to ensure compliance with the directive from the labour leaders.

Speaking to newsmen, the NUT chairman, opined that workers from grade level 01 to 07 who were collecting full salary joined the strike because the strike was not based on the issue of half salary alone.

In his words, “We are on strike in Osun. We are here at the State Government Secretariat, Abere to ensure a total compliance to the strike directive. “As you can see, no worker came to resume work today because they are our members and the labour directed that they should stay at home. “The labour is indivisible, that is why those who are collecting full salaries also complied. The strike is not even about half salary alone.

The issue of promotion is there, pension is there and are you saying those from level 1 to 7 will not retire in the future? “The compliance is total and we are happy about it. Nobody can divide us. The labour is one indivisible family whether you are on level one, 13 or any level”, he finally said

SportsEx-arsenal Player, Emmanuel Eboue Offered Job By Galatasaray After Losing Assets by Djsticks(op): 10:13am On Dec 27, 2017
Turkish club, Galatasary has offered his former player, Emmanuel Eboue a coaching role.

Eboue recently revealed that he was left with nothing after a bitter divorce battle with his wife Aurelie.

The former defender said he sleeps on the floor of a friend’s home, travels by bus and even cleans his clothes by hand because he can’t afford a washing machine.

After learning of his plight, the 34-year-old was handed a lifeline by the manager of one of his former clubs.

“We heard news about Eboue in the dressing room. I was informed there, we will do whatever we can to help my friend,” Galatasaray boss Faith Terin told CNN.

Eboue, who played for Arsenal for seven years between 2004 and 2011, and the Turkish side from 2011 and 2016, had said he was seeking divine intervention to prevent him from taking his own life.

“I want God to help me,” Eboue had said. “Only he can help take these thoughts from my mind.”

As part of his divorce settlement, Eboue has been ordered to also give up his house in London to his ex-wife

SportsMatch Highlight: Liverpool 5 - 0 Swansea, All Goals And Highlight (download) by Djsticks(op): 8:47pm On Dec 26, 2017
Beyond easy. Swansea look like the worst team in the league on this evidence and are in real trouble. Liverpool were their usual dangerous selves but were helped out time and again by dreadful passing, poor defending and a simple lack of quality.

Philippe Coutinho's stunner gave the hosts the lead early on, before Roberto Firmino, who scored two in that match in January, doubled the advantage seven minutes into the second half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold then netted his first Premier League goal in front of the Kop to put the match beyond Swansea and Firmino’s second made it 4-0 soon after.

Alex Oxlade-Chambelain added further gloss with his maiden home strike for Liverpool

The result moves Liverpool a point clear of Spurs, while Swansea – still under the caretaker charge of Leon Britton following the sacking of Paul Clement last week – remain at the foot of the table and five points from safety.

PhonesWhatsapp To Stop Running On These Devices On December 31, 2017. by Djsticks(op): 8:16am On Dec 26, 2017
As the year ends, WhatsApp gives a farewell note to some smartphone users and it's not a good one.

WhatsApp will cease to work on devices running BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10 and Windows Phone 8.0 as from December 31, 2017. A WhatsApp blog post with the End of Life date clearly states that users of BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10 and Windows Phone 8.0 and older operating systems will not be able to use the app after December 31, 2017 - not more than a week from now.

To be able to recall, WhatsApp has extended support for both platforms in June this year. At that time, WhatsApp also found that the application would stop working on NokiaS40 phones will be stopped from December 31, 2018. The application will stop working on Android 2.3.7 and older phones (Gingerbread) will be stopped from February 1, 2020. Messaging applications have become unavailable on Nokia phones running Symbian S60 since June 30, 2017.

Stopping support for Blackberry and Windows Phone did not see any additional extensions and that date will be the same. If your phone has one of two dedicated operating systems, you should consider upgrading to a newer phone so you can properly access WhatsApp. WhatsApp updates for other versions of the operating system, such as Windows Phone 7, Android 2.1, Android 2.2, and iOS 6, were halted in 2016.

WhatsApp has officially redeemed its new standalone business application this month, which includes verified and unverified profiles. This gives businesses a formal way to do business through messaging apps.
