This followed reports of a man shooting himself on the North Lawn on Saturday.

Staff were instructed to take shelter inside after the incident occurred in the afternoon.

The U.S Secret Service tweeted: “Secret Service personnel are responding to reports of a person who allegedly suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound along the north fence line of White House.

“No other reported injuries related to the incident”.

The Service also said the injured male was being treated by medical personnel.

The United States of America has condemned the killing of three aid workers in Rann town in Borno State, north-east Nigeria.

NAN reports that the US Embassy in a statement in Abuja pledged its support to Nigerians, ‘’as they bravely work to ensure their nation’s security.’’

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to every family whose loved ones have been affected by this and other terrorist acts.

“We voice our heartfelt solidarity with all those humanitarian workers who work every day to help Nigerians affected by the ongoing insurgency”, it said.

US also expressed sympathy for ‘’all those security forces and Nigerian citizens working together to end this terrorist violence,’’ the Embassy said.

The Embassy said that the U.S. remained firmly committed to ensuring humanitarian workers were protected and able to do their lifesaving work.

The Nigerian Senate has allegedly discovered a rip-off of $141 million gas scandal involving the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Keystone bank.
Rising through order 42 of Senate rules, Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial district, explained that a company, Brass LNG Limited was registered with the Federal government having a controlling share of 50%.
According to him, “the company is a joint venture between the Federal government of Nigeria, NNPC and some Italians”, explaining that the account was privately domiciled with Keystone bank instead of the federation account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
He revealed further that the domiciled account with Keystone bank has no bank verification number, which he said, made it possible for the withdrawal of $4 million illegally.
“Mr. President, distinguished colleagues, I rise through order 42 of Senate rules to address the course of our nation.”
“There was a monumental and collosal corruption at the NNPC over a joint venture company, Brass LNG Limited with the FG having a controlling share of 50%.”
“Instead of using the federation account at the CBN for proceeds of the joint venture transactions, the NNPC domiciled the account with Keystone bank without BVN and as I speak, the sum of $4million has been withdrawn.”
In his reaction, Senate President, Bukola Saraki asked that the matter be brought in form of motion to enable debate at another legislative day.

Kogi State has been thrown into mourning following the death of a medical doctor Idowu Ahmed Victor diagnosed of Lassa Fever in Irua, Edo State.



Late Victor who contacted the disease on January 19 passed on at about 6pm on Sunday.

Until his death, Dr Victor was a House Officer at the Federal Medical Centre Lokoja were he contacted the disease from a 7-month-old baby who died on Friday 19th January.

Confirming the incident on Sunday night, the Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, Dr Godwin Tijani, described the deceased as a man who was committed to his job.

Dr Tijani while announcing the obituary of the late Medical Doctor wrote “the NMA Kogi State is sorry to announced the death of Dr Idowu Ahmed Victor who was a House officer at FMC Lokoja. He was infected with the Lassa Virus as confirmed at Irrua Specialist Hospital. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen”.

Meanwhile, the NMA Kogi has advised healthcare practitioners in the state to always observe safety precautions whenever attending to patients.

Tijani also advised the general public to store food items, especially grains, garri and powdered food in air-tight containers.

“The general public should endeavour to quickly report any case of high grade fever not responding to antimalarial treatment to the nearest hospital, so that quick diagnosis and treatment can be instituted.

“Early presentation has a good prognosis,” he said.

The medical doctor, who described Lassa fever as a zoonotic disease, spread by rats, stressed that personal hygiene or any measure taken to get rid of rats would help in containing the disease.

“Its symptoms include high grade fever, joints and general body pains, malaise, bleeding from body orifices and renal failure”, he said.

However, the NMA chairman appealed to relevant governments and stakeholders to be serious with the welfare of health personnel.

According to him, health personnel risked their lives under a very poor remuneration.

“Can you imagine that the hazard allowance for a doctor is just N5,000, while those who are not exposed to any risk are being paid allowances running into millions of naira.

“For instance, doctors working with the Kogi government are on strike over poor welfare.

“I am, therefore, appealing to the government to address the grievances to ensure that doctors quickly get back to work as there is an imminent emergency befalling the state.

“Government should pay the remaining balance of salary, correct the underpayment, and give a timeline for the implementation of the revised CONMESS, promotion and annual step increment.

“The government should also act fast to avoid mass exodus of doctors from the state, because we have fewer doctors and we cannot afford to lose them to other states with higher bids.

“Some of the Northern states have advertised for doctors’ recruitment and over 100 doctors under Kogi government employment have indicated interest to go for the interview.

“This is a bad development for the health sector. I am appealing to the state government to do the needful to avoid the impending calamity,” said Tijani.

Roma striker, Edin Dzeko has agreed a move to Chelsea this January.

Manager, Antonio Conte is in search of a back-up striker to support Alvaro Morata for the remainder of the 2017/18 campaign with names such as Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch and Jamie Vardy being mentioned but it’s understood the Blues are closing in on a deal for Dzeko.

Italian outlet, Gianluca Di Marzio, claims Dzeko has reached an agreement with Chelsea and said “yes” to Conte over a move to Stamford Bridge.

The Niger Delta Youth Leadership Forum has demanded the establishment of oil and gas colony for the region following plans by the Federal Government to establish cattle colony for the herdsmen.

The group also condemned the killings going on across the country by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The National President, PANDLEAF, Richard Akinaka, made this known while speaking to newsmen on Saturday.

He said it was the responsibility of herdsmen as private business people to take private and personal responsibility to advance their business interests and not that of the government,

Akinaka said: “As a people, we have taken that position that herdsmen are private business people. Some of us who have private businesses, take private and personal responsibility to advance our business interests.

“If herdsmen want land and spaces to do their business, they should acquire them within any of the states and do their business as it demands the way it is done elsewhere all over the world where you have people get ranches for their cattle and people go there to buy cattle for consumption purposes.

“So, that is the best thing to do. Government does not need to buy land for a private businessman and all of that. But if that is what the government wants to do, we are asking for oil and gas colony for our people too.

“We should be given extra reserve right to take full responsibility of our oil and gas industry because that is our area, that is our environment.”

Arsenal and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have agreed a deal for the player to move to the North London side.

It was gathered that the Armenian was earlier reluctant to join up with the Gunners but recent reports from 1in.am, claim that the former Borussia Dortmund star has accepted to join Arsenal as part of the Alexis Sanchez transfer deal.

Foreign exchange traders said the development signalled a gradual move to merge the regulator’s multiple exchange rates.The Central Bank of Nigeria on Monday weakened the naira marginally, selling dollars at 307 for the first time on the official interbank market.CBN weakens naira to 307/dollar for first time

According to a Reuters report, the country’s convoluted exchange rate system has been used to manage what the CBN described as “frivolous” demand for dollars at the peak of a currency crisis which began two years ago.

Nigeria currently has at least five exchange rates including the official rate which the CBN uses for masking pressure on the currency.

In April the CBN allowed foreign investors to trade the naira at market-determined rate through the establishment of the Investors and Exporters FX window, which has weakened the naira to around 360/dollar.

The CBN has sold $500,000 almost on daily basis on the official spot market since creating several exchange rates to alleviate dollar shortages.

However, it had sold the United States currency at rates of between 305 and 306 for months before Monday’s move. ”It’s possible the central bank is working towards a gradual convergence of rates, one trader told Reuters.

Earlier this month the central bank sold dollars at 306 for the second time after maintaining a level of around 305 on the spot market for two months.

Dollar shortages gripped the economy as crude sales, Nigeria’s mainstay, plunged at the start of an oil price rout in 2014. That triggered a recession last year and frustrated businesses, which had to find dollars on the black market as a result.

In a fresh attack by suspected armed herdsmen in Logo and Guma Local Government Areas on Wednesday in Benue Stat, no fewer than four persons were killed

The State Governor, Samuel Ortom revealed this at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi when he received a former military administrator of the State, retired Brigadier-General Dominic Oneya who led a delegation of his Foundation on a condolence visit to the Governor.

Ortom said, “Two women had been reportedly killed in Guma and two persons in Logo.”

The Governor stressed that pockets of killings were still going on and reiterated his call on security agents to arrest the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore whom he said were still issuing threats of resisting implementation of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law in the state.

He, however, expressed appreciation to General Oneya for identifying with people of the State in their trying moment, stressing that it was a demonstration of a true friend.

Earlier, retired Brigadier-General Oneya said his mission was to commiserate with the Governor and the people of Benue over the gruesome murder of 73 persons by herdsmen.

The general prayed God to grant the souls of the victim’s eternal rest and the bereaved the fortitude to bear the loss.

“The last military administrator of the state who handed over to former Governor George Akume, he considers the state as his home and would always identify with it in good and difficult times,” Oneya said.

The Senate on Tuesday debated extensively on the killings by Fulani herdsmen in Benue State and other parts of Nigeria.



The lawmakers said their resolutions, which were later conveyed to President Muhammadu Buhari by the leadership of the National Assembly, were “wake-up call” to the President and the Federal Government who “must” take urgent action on the crisis before it escalates.

They also resolved that the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, “must” within 14 days arrest the herdsmen suspected to have killed over 70 persons in Benue State recently.

The debate followed the consideration and adoption of the report by the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on the Review of Security Infrastructure of Nigeria, after an investigative visit to Benue last weekend.

During the debate on the matter, which lasted about six hours, members of the Senate also spoke on restructuring of the country’s governance structure, state police and the “cattle colonies” being proposed by the Federal Government.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, in his closing remarks after the debate, asked the Federal Government to take timely and drastic steps to end the crisis.

Saraki, while hailing the panel headed by the Majority Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, expressed condolences of the Senate to the people and government of Benue State, especially on those who lost their lives and properties to the attacks.

He said, “From the contributions by everybody today – we have taken our time, almost six hours just to deliberate on this issue – it is clear that this goes beyond religious or ethnic issues. It is a breakdown, really, of the security apparatus of the country. And it is a wake-up call that we must act now. Failure to act is an indictment on all of us.”

Several lawmakers, who spoke during the debate, identified various causes of the problem and recommended various solutions, some of which they argued over.

The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who urged the lawmakers to approach the matter with “a real sense of responsibility.”

“What we see now going on in the country is a situation of killings followed by retaliations. A responsible institution must rise to the occasion and say that enough is enough,” Ekweremadu stated.

He added that religious and ethnic leaders who were silent on the matter were now speaking out.

He therefore recommended declaration of a state of emergency in the country, noting that it would not vacate the current political leadership of the country.

The Deputy Senate President stressed that since there were claims of aliens crossing the borders to commit the crimes, the emergency could lead to shutting the borders. This, he stated, could be justified under international laws on the doctrine of necessity.

Also speaking, Senator Dino Melaye said, “What happened in Benue State has showed like never before that in this country, we live in perilous times. We live in times where justice is the scarcest commodity in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“I call on President Muhammadu Buhari to ring the bell of justice. I call on Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo to ring the bell of justice. I call on the Nigerian Senate to ring the bell of justice.”

A former Senate President, David Mark, who is from Benue, called for short-term and long-term solutions to the problem.

He said, “Presently, there is no intelligence transmission between the organs, villagers and government. And if there is, government is not proactive. Nigeria is not the country with the largest number of cattle in the world, are they having all these crises in other places?

“There are modern ways of doing things and we must grow with time. We cannot be operating an archaic system that we have if it doesn’t fit into the modern situation.”

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Senate on Tuesday night was at the Presidential Villa to deliver the resolutions by the upper chamber of the National Assembly to President Buhari.

The source said the move was to “show the urgency that the matter required.”

One of the biggest actress in Nollywood, Funke Akindele, will star alongside international movie stars Robert Downey Jr and Chris Hemsworth, in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity Wars.

She has been cast in the upcoming Marvel movie “Avengers: Infinity War.”

As seen on the movies full cast list, the actress will play a member of the Black Panther’s guards, the Dora Milaje.

The Dora Milaje are superior women recruited from every tribe of the fictional Wakanda who serve as the personal bodyguards of the Black Panther.

A brief summary of the movie reads: “In the sequel to Avengers: Age of Ultron , Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. Intel Corp (INTC.O) said fixes for security issues in its microchips would not slow down computers, rebuffing concerns that the flaws found in microprocessors would significantly reduce performances.

The performance impact of the recent security updates should not be significant and will be mitigated over time, Intel said late on Thursday, adding that Apple Inc (AAPL.O), Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O), Google (GOOGL.O) and Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) reported little to no performance impact from the security updates.

Intel shares fell nearly 2 percent on Thursday as investors were worried about the potential financial liability and reputational damage from the recently disclosed security issues.

The largest chipmaker confirmed earlier this week that the security issues reported by researchers in the company’s widely used microprocessors could allow hackers to steal sensitive information from computers, phones and other devices.

Security researchers had disclosed two security flaws exposing vulnerability of nearly every modern computing device containing chips from Intel, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD.O) and ARM Holdings.

The first, called Meltdown, affects Intel chips and lets hackers bypass the hardware barrier between applications run by users and the computer’s memory, potentially letting hackers read a computer’s memory and steal passwords. The second, called Spectre, affects chips from Intel, AMD and ARM and lets hackers potentially trick otherwise error-free applications into giving up secret information.

Intel had said the issues were not caused by a design flaw and asked users to download a patch and update their operating system.

Intel may be on the hook for costs stemming from lawsuits claiming that the patches would slow computers and effectively force consumers to buy new hardware, and big customers will likely seek compensation from Intel for any software or hardware fixes they make, security experts said.

Apple's chief executive Tim Cook has been ordered by the firm to use only private jets for both business and personal transport.

In documents filed with the US markets regulator, Apple said the policy was "in the interests of security and efficiency".

Apple reported that Mr Cook's personal travel expenses came to $93,109 (£69,253) in 2017.

His personal security expenses came to $224,216, the tech giant added.

In 2017, the chief executive's salary was just over $3m. He also received $9.3m in bonuses, plus $89m of shares that were promised to him if he met certain targets.

Apple's market capitalisation rose to $868bn in November, making it the world's most valuable publicly-traded company.

The tech giant has suffered controversy recently.

On 21 December, Apple was forced to admit that it had been deliberately slowing down ageing iPhones to help manage performance issues caused by their batteries wearing out.

The firm is being sued in eight separate cases in the US over the matter, as well as facing legal action in Israel and France.

And in November, Apple was forced to push out an update to fix a major security hole in its Mac operating system that made it possible to gain entry to a Mac without a password, and also have access to powerful administrator rights.
