davbravo:Thank you @davbravo. I eventually came across the job vacancy section but when I tried to post the job advert, it would not permit the process this message came up: "Sorry, you can't post in this section yet. Please try again in a few weeks" I'll just have to wait until I am more establised on the site. |
Opez4real:How long is a piece of string? Tough question to answer. @ Rugged has posted very valid points there. I was definately pro Brexit ( so fed up with substandard EU docs getting in to the uk to practice without issue-trained a few of those characters also! Whilst I had to suffer through Plab with my friends eons ago). Currently there is mass panic ( people have forgotten the uk existed prior to and without the financial draining machine that is the EU). Mid term (whenever they finally decide to enforce article 50), it will be a struggle trying to restructure various systems. I am not convinced they will pull out completely ( might be a bit like Norway-european free trade zone etc). There are jitters amongst others like the Dutch and zee Germans (who else will shoulder the financial burden in the succubus that is the EU!) Long term it will mean easier trading with other international countries and hopefully fairer access for doctors from Nigeria. Again, this is still extremely uncertain which is why I have started developing a business strategy in Nigeria. If the Independent republic of England eventually decide to ship my black tukus out, at least I'll have alternative sources of income elsewhere ![]() |
This is a good thread........the answer is much more complex than one would imagine I guess. I am setting up a business in Lagos and tried recruiting personnel via informal routes (friend of friends, acquaintances in Nigeria, children of whoever with valid degress etc etc etc). I have been quite frankly underwhelmed by the calibre so far. A friend tried to explain this (few examples below. The list is however endless): 1. Unrealistic expectations amongst some jobseekers: A young man in IT wanted 500k /month. He is 2 years post NYSC, has never been gainfully employed after that but expected this because his equivalent in other industries were earning that amount. He is suffering financially, from a very modest background and his dad had pleaded with me so I thought I would interview him. Sorry to say, I had to decline after the interview (no vision, few aspirations/expectations if it was not financial, could not present the specified documents required, fumbling with basic questions etc) 2. Greed: see 1 above 3. Employer ignorance and arrogance; a number of Nigerian employers do not pay salaries which are commensurate to level of skill/economic needs etc. some even fail to pay for a few months. "You pay peanuts and end up with monkeys". If you pay below appropriate scale, then your employee will inevitably become disillusioned and full of angst. She/He will remain distracted ( looking for alternative sources of income and have no pride in her/his job) and the employer will become frustrated, questioning and cursing the day (rather unfairly) they employed him/her. 4. The Nigerian factor. This is a serious issue (i can hear my nigerian friends yawning or shouting here). Transport, fuel crisis, epileptic power, water, corruption, currency fluctuations etc inevitably means our day to day business runnings vary wildly and widely due to the financial fluctuations. I still remain hopeful despite success and horror stories with regards to job recruitment and placements I have heard from friends who are employing staff. |
Nani4all:@Nani, thanks for your response. I have tried searching in both sections and cannot see career adverts there, only specific discussion topics. I do not want to incur the wrath of the moderators so looking to stay within the boundaries of their rules and regulations. Looking through the site, it appears that paying for and placing targeted adverts is the only way ![]() |
Goodmorning all, I have just joined the site this morning. Could you please direct me to the specific section where I can place adverts for a MLS. Sorry I am quite green and would appreciate correct redirection. Thanks |
