Sequel to the report that about 1.8 million candidates are registered for the 2019 JAMB examination, the examination board has urged candidates to embrace other platforms of securing admission. It should be recalled that yearly, the approved capacity of all candidates to be admitted into 100level in every Nigerian higher institution is less than 600,000 which is one-quarter (1/3) of the candidates applying for admission this year. This however will make the admission process more competitive and fierce than it was in the previous year. READ ALSO: Reasons why students fail to secure admission even when they pass JAMB Candidates are thereby urged to apply for alternative programmes such as IJMB and JUPEB in order to gain more grounds. These programmes are approved and certified to run for 7-9 months, wherein candidates are Lectured base on the approved 100level syllabus for all departments and the results are accepted in every universities in Nigeria as a requirement for Direct Entry Admission into 200 Level as recommended in the JAMB Brochure (CHECK JAMB BROCHURE TO CONFIRM - Page 14 (xiv) index 1.0.05) 2019 IJMB Registration is Currently | Limited Forms Available | Visit egtpreversity.com to register However, candidates applying into universities such as UNILAG, UNIBADAN and OAU are advised to choose JUPEB over IJMB. *So What Next After JAMB?* JAMB reprint is in progress and most of us already know our exam dates, time and venue. *I hope we are prepared?* I asked one of my cousins this question late last year and she replied *Its not about how prepared I am but how lucky I will get this year* , I asked what she meant and her reply hit me really hard. She has been writing JAMB since she was in SS2 till the 5th time. She only failed the first time but consequently, she gets 240 and above, applying for an engineering course. I told her about IJMB I think the 3rd time she was writing JAMB but she talked about the fees but I know it was because she thought it was a risk. Since her parents wasn't as buoyant as mine, I couldn't insist so I enrolled and got admitted the following year (2016) into 200Level (Unilorin, Accounting). I kind of lost contact with her but I later met her during my IT and we talked, I reintroduced her to IJMB and thank God she agreed to enroll. She got admitted around last year (2018) November into 200level at Unilorin (Civil Engineering). While I was walking her through the clearance, she made a statement that caught my mind: *How I wish I listened to you earlier and enrolled for the programme...* This statement caught me that I decided to share her story so someone might actually learn. By that time, I was in my final year while she was in 200Level. IJMB is not a scam, it's not a risk and its not a waste of time. I may not be able to speak for other centers but I and few of my friends/family that registered with EGT Preversity can boast of success. We never bothered about admission and we were offered the course we want. You can visit their website to know more www.egtpreversity.com Enquiries, call 07063153798 WhatsApp 08184613846 *NB* IJMB registration closes on the 20th of May, 2019. |
Secure admission into 2000level without JAMB

"You have written JAMB more than once and you are probably fed up and feel like giving up. Funny enough, you always meet the cut off, you just can't figure out why you were not admitted. Whereas, people who scored lesser than you have been admitted and you weren't. Why this unfair treatment? You think it's best if You forget school for now and face other things. You just can't waste reasonable years of Your life hoping on admission that is not even certain even if you pass" You don't have to be frustrated before you secure admission, there are other legal, approved and certified means by which you can secure admission into the university to study any course of your choice apart from the well known means - JAMB.Do you know over 1.7 million students have registered for JAMB this year and the combined capacity of NIgerian universities can only admit up to 600,000 applicants? What then becomes the fate of over 1 million students that weren't admitted? This thread extensively explains why JAMB admission is competitive, and what students can do to avoiding sitting at home for too long. THE CONCEPT OF ADMISSION If we go back in history, we would recall that years ago, there was nothing like JAMB. Once you graduate from secondary school, you just apply to your choice university but then, the process had a glitch. The secondary school graduates outnumbered the capacity (total number of students universities can hold) of the Nigerian universities. However, measures such as establishment of more universities, Creation of JAMB, etc were created to correct this glitch and this brings us to why JAMB was established. WHY WAS JAMB ESTABLISHED? As we have earlier stated, the number of secondary school graduates were more than the number of students the university can hold. For instance, 10,000 students graduated from secondary school in 1999, and the maximum number of students Nigerian university can hold is 7,000, the only way to get that exact figure from the number of applicants is to examine them(JAMB) and pick the best 7,000. This method seemed efficient at the time, although not for long. Why? The figure of secondary school graduates kept increasing. You should remember that out of the 10,000 students that applied in 1999, only 7,000 were admitted and 3,000 were shortlisted based on performance. They are left with no other choice but to rewrite JAMB with the new set of secondary school graduates (say 10,000). So 10,000+3,000=13,000.This makes it that 13,000 students will be examined through JAMB in the year 2000, and only 7,000 will the admitted, shortlisting about 6,000. The figure keeps adding up as year goes by and thus, the concept of POST UTME was established to further shortlist students, because the number of students that pass JAMB became more than the number of students Nigerian Universities can take. Having realized this, some who didn’t reach cut off or reached but doesn’t want to be shortlisted buy their way in either via connection, money, etc. thus, the advent of inequitable distribution in the JAMB admission process. In order to correct this glitch, the idea of pre-degree programmes came up so as to keep students brain active after leaving secondary school before they secure admission instead of staying at home, doing nothing but the programme wasn't efficient for long because of the capacity that Nigerian University can admit to 100 level. Hence, advance level programmes such as IJMB, JUPEB, NABTEB A-level, etc. were adopted. WHAT ARE ADVANCED LEVEL PROGRAMMES? Advance level programmes are platforms that student can engage in to secure admission into 200Level. These programmes in itself, is more or less 100Level because students are taken through series of lectures based on 100Level syllabus for a period of 6-9 month, after which they sit for their examination. A result will be issued on completion of the programme which can be used in combination with O’level result to apply for Direct Entry admission in any Nigerian institution. The most common of these programmes are IJMB, JUPEB and NABTEB A’Level. While IJMB and JUPEB is accepted in virtually every Nigerian universities – be it federal, state or private, NABTEB A’Level is only applicable for Technical Schools. Read more Update: IJMB registration for the 2019/2020 academic session is in progress. Limited forms available WHY ADVANCED LEVEL PROGRAMMES? These programmes were created to in order to provide alternatives to secure university admission. For instance:Last year (2018), about 1.5 million students applied for JAMB, and only about 600,000 (if not less) were admitted. Logic says, the remaining 800,000 that was not admitted will re-apply for Jamb, joining the 1.5 million (rough estimate) that will be registering this year (2019).1,500,000 + 800,000 = 2,300,000 (2.3 million)As this goes on and on year in, year out, and the figures will keep increasing, thereby making admission more competitive and hard via jamb. This was the reason for which Advanced level programmes such as IJMB moderated by ABU Zaria and JUPEB moderated by Unilag were established - to lessen the burden on jamb. You can check your JAMB Brochure to confirm Advanced level programmes as alternatives for university admission. It is there and even recommended by JAMB itself, the reason some students rewrite JAMB 3-7 time (or even more) is because they are oblivious of this programmes and they doubt it. HOW DOES ADVANCED LEVEL PROGRAMME WORK? Usually to secure admission into university, students are to combine their O'level results with JAMB as a requirement for admission. However, advanced level programmes doesn't warrant JAMB i.e one doesn't need to sit for JAMB examination to be admitted via JAMB. It is the combination of your O'level and your A'level result. for instance, someone who enrolled for IJMB only needs his/her IJMB result in combination with his O'level result to apply for DE admission into his/her choice university. SINCE NIGERIAN UNIVERSITY CAPACITY IS 600,000, WHAT MAKE 200LEVEL ADMISSION ANY EASIER? Yearly, about 600,000 students are admitted into universities all over Nigeria but not all of them make it to 200Level. Why? About 60,000 – 100,000 students are usually sent back home for various reasons such as: Cultism Clearance (some are nabbed for using fake result) Examination malpractice and Misconduct Extreme failure Failure to pay school fees Failure to accept admission Failure to comply with school rules And lots more Other reasons may include sickness and death. This depicts that there are about 100,000 spaces that students can fill in at 200Level and these spaces are reserved for Direct Entry students (Advanced Level, ND and NCE graduates). However, as at 2018, only about 15,000 students registered for Advanced level programme (IJMB, JUPEB, NABTEB) which is relatively low as compared to the number of admission seeker. Hence, we could deduce that people barely know about these programmes and the benefits they hold. WHO CAN APPLY? The Basic Qualification for Enrolment is a minimum of five (5) Credit Passes at the Senior Secondary Certificate (SSCE) /General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level in subjects relevant to the desired university programme or course of study. Nonetheless, students with awaiting result can also apply. BUT I ALREADY REGISTERED FOR JAMB!!! Advanced level programme doesn't in any way hinder JAMB because they are two different programmes: JAMB on one hand offers admission to 100Level, and Advanced level programmes on the other hand, offers admission to 200Level. Therefore, students can register for both JAMB and Advanced level programmes together and have multiple admission chances.I hope this thread has been able to expose you to other alternatives you could employ to secure university admission aside JAMB. BRIEF HISTORY OF IJMB The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) was set up in 1970, under statue 5 of the Ahmadu Bello University Law, to run the Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (IJMBE) as an alternative to ‘a’ Level Examination, for candidates who may wish to seek for undergraduate admission into Ahmadu bello University, Zaria and other Universities. The programme was envisioned as a stop-gap or bridge AFTER secondary school education, to prepare candidates academically, mentally and socially for the challenges of the university education. The IJMB examination is based on an approved IJMB syllabus which was produced by harmonizing the contents of the syllabus of the former Higher School Certificate, London GCE, Cambridge A-level examinations and the 100 level curriculum of Nigerian Universities The annual examination has been conducted consistently since the inception of the IJMB under the control of the IJMB Governing Board. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has from 1978, been the moderating agency of the IJMB Examinations. JAMB moderates the questions and supervises the marking of the scripts through external moderators it recruits from universities throughout the country HOW IT WORKS Prospective candidates are to purchase their application form and fill every detail correctly. After which they will be notified in their email address of their allocated center where they are to resume for lectures. Candidates would then be lectured for the stipulated period and thereafter sit for the final examination. On completion of the programme, successful candidates accordingly utilize their Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination certificate to secure admission into 200level in any Nigeria tertiary institutions via Direct Entry. DURATION IJMB Programmes runs for a duration of 7- 9 months divided into two semesters which implies 4 months per semester. However, the final examination is usually held in february annually. Registration for the current academic session is in progress. LEGIBILITY PROVEN: Annually about 30,000 applicants enroll for the program and more than 29,000 candidates successfully pass their examInation and secure admission into 200 level in their choice of university and course easily. Consequently, the stress and cost of applying for JAMB with close to 1.7 million applicants where just 600,000 hopefully are admitted into 100 level is avoided. APPROVED: The programme is approved by the Ministry of Education as an alternative platform for securing university admission into universities in Nigeria and outside without UTME. CERTIFIED: By NIGERIA UNIVERSITY COMMISSION (NUC) as an A’ level programme that qualify students into 200 level in the university upon successful completion of the programme.
