Business / Re: What Should I Do: Road Transport Union Besieged My Registered Transport Biz by domics: 2:38pm On Sep 07, 2012
That is a challenge you must face and overcome. Its a teething problem I faced and overcame.
Option One:
Go to their office and locate their head and discuss the matter with them.
Option Two: Get the police involved and be ready to spend money. I mean real money.

I followed both options and today they all fear my two buses. Last year, they siezed my bus at Aba. I went to their office to negotiate the reliese but they were adamant. They wanted to force me to register with them and when I agreed, they thought that a mugu has fallen. They gave me an impossible fees to pay or to give them a cut of the daily returns I make. I met their leader and he made it worse by breaking my trafficators and that got me mad, real mad!
I left them and contacted a Lawyer and we went to the state Police headquarters. For starters, I was determined to run them out at all cost and face the consequencies. I dishedout N100,000k there and then, and the nextday 7 plain cloth policemen were drafted to the park and around thier offices to gather the info. 2 days later 10 heavily armed mobile policemen stormed their offices and venues where they harass other motorists and arrested their leaders and touts all together. They were bundle to state headquarters and from there to Abuja. They spent 2 good weeks in police cell trying to free themselves. Inshort, each and everyone of them paid 100,000k to bail themselve (trust our Naija police !) By the time they closed the case, they paid for the damages as well as the no of days they bus parked in their custody. That is the way to run a business. If possible, reserve a certain amount of your money to face trouble and deal with it.
