PoliticsWhat We Have Become: A Nigerian Case Of Triple Standards by Donbunchis(op): 1:12am On Nov 15, 2024
We sleep in the night and yet tomorrow forebodes nothing. We crave for food and yet we manage the available which we can access....Everyother thing becomes bogus, as we watch.
Politics and tribalism dictate our taste of food and sundry things. Now garri is for the disappeared middle class.

Politics and tribalism dictate our choice on GOVERNMENT Policies and sundry things.
Again we can just manage the little options we can for fuel requirements, household issues and tomorrow things.

Banks will not give us our money, our oil is not just for us. But our politicians are doing well even as our day to day arrangements are muddled up. Naija we are looking at you.

PoliticsRe: Dangote’s Empire: Looming Oil Mafia Showdown! by Donbunchis: 1:57am On Jul 22, 2024
malali:
As we look around the Nigerian landscape, one cannot help but see the sprawling empire of Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, standing tall amidst a sea of poverty and suffering. His conglomerate spans cement, sugar, salt, and now, potentially, oil refining. Yet, despite his immense wealth, there is a pervasive sentiment that Dangote’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives have not significantly impacted the lives of everyday Nigerians. It’s a situation that can be likened to pouring water into a basket—plenty of effort, but little result.

Dangote’s CSR: A Drop in the Ocean ?

Dangote Group has indeed embarked on several CSR projects, from building schools to healthcare initiatives. However, in a country where millions live below the poverty line, these efforts often feel like a mere drop in the ocean. It’s akin to giving a man a fish without teaching him to fish. There’s a need for a paradigm shift, a move towards impactful, sustainable projects that address the root causes of poverty and deprivation.

CSR Projects for Widespread Impact

1. Free Community Health Clinics: Establish clinics in rural areas with free basic healthcare services.
2. Educational Scholarships: Provide scholarships for underprivileged students from primary to tertiary levels.
3. Agricultural Development Programs: Offer training and resources for modern farming techniques.
4. Microfinance Initiatives: Provide low-interest loans to small business owners and farmers.
5. Clean Water Projects: Install boreholes and water purification systems in rural communities.
6. Renewable Energy Projects: Introduce solar power solutions to off-grid areas.
7. Vocational Training Centers: Set up centers to teach skills like carpentry, tailoring, and welding.
8. Affordable Housing Schemes: Build low-cost housing units for low-income families.
9. Road Infrastructure: Invest in building and maintaining rural roads to boost connectivity.
10. Literacy Programs: Launch adult literacy and continuing education programs.
11. Youth Empowerment Initiatives: Create programs aimed at developing entrepreneurial skills among the youth.
12. Waste Management Solutions: Develop effective waste management and recycling systems.
13. Nutritional Programs: Establish community kitchens to combat malnutrition.
14. Mental Health Support: Offer mental health counseling and support services.
15. Sports Development: Build sports facilities and promote sports education in schools.
16. Environmental Conservation: Implement reforestation and environmental conservation projects.
17. Tech Hubs: Create technology hubs to foster innovation and digital skills.
18. Public Libraries: Establish libraries with free access to books and learning materials.
19. Sanitation Facilities: Build public toilets and promote hygiene education.
20. Disaster Relief Funds: Set up funds to respond to natural disasters and emergencies.

Dangote’s Empire Amidst Poverty

It is a bitter pill to swallow that while Dangote’s wealth has ballooned, many Nigerians continue to wallow in poverty. His business acumen and connections have undoubtedly paved the way for his success. However, the disparity between his wealth and the average Nigerian’s plight raises critical questions about the broader socio-economic framework.

The Refining Foray: Treading on Toes

Dangote’s move into oil refining, with the Dangote Refinery set to be one of the world’s largest, has certainly ruffled feathers among established players in the oil trade. These entities, sometimes dubbed the “Oil Mafia,” view his foray as a direct threat to their dominance. Given Dangote’s financial clout, political connections, and the backing of his kinsmen, the potential for him to disrupt the status quo is significant. It’s like a bull entering a china shop—there’s bound to be commotion.

Sneaking the Crown Jewels: A Strategic Approach

If Dangote were to avoid drawing the ire of these entrenched interests, a more subtle approach would be essential. Here’s how he might have navigated this treacherous terrain:

1. Joint Ventures: Form alliances with existing oil players, ensuring a stake for them in his ventures.
2. Gradual Expansion: Slowly ramp up his refining operations, avoiding sudden market shocks.
3. Policy Advocacy: Work with policymakers to introduce reforms that benefit the broader industry, thereby gaining support.
4. Corporate Diplomacy: Engage in dialogue with influential stakeholders, highlighting mutual benefits.
5. Community Engagement: Increase CSR efforts in oil-producing regions, winning local support and reducing friction.

Conclusion

Dangote stands at a crossroads. His potential to uplift Nigerian society is as vast as his business empire. By rethinking his CSR strategies and adopting a more inclusive approach, he can ensure his legacy is not just one of wealth but of transformative impact. As the Yoruba saying goes, “A river that forgets its source will surely dry up.” It’s high time Dangote channels his resources towards building a more equitable Nigeria, ensuring that his success story becomes intertwined with the prosperity of the nation.

Dangote's uncle loaned him 500k to start up this empire as he claims, as Dangote approaches 70yrs old, how many people have started successful businesses that were mentored by Dangote or initial capital loaned to them by dangote.I want to also use this as a medium to call on other fellow wealthy Nigerians. Pick one or two people every year and build them to successful levels. Let people miss you when you are gone.

As the Largest cement manufacturer in Nigeria, At least one federal university in every geopolitical zone should have a Dangote residence Hall as accommodation on campus .Built by Dangote as a CSR project. When you give to these people, they will come out in arms when your interests are challenged.
When he came out his ideas, IOCs should have have taken him serious. Until now, NNPC is still not taking one of the biggest refinery on earth serious and this monument is our legacy.

Ask NNPC why they aren't pumping crude to Dangote and also not fulfilling their agreement to help them sit on the board of refinery with him.

So much greetings to you.

Africans say that when you kill a lion from a pride, you become a killer of lions. Now, inside plenty prides you have killed millions of lions. sugar, Noddles, cement, oil and gas and many more.

Some of your prior ventures did not go well. We loose some and then, make some. But the one of the biggest and most lucrative refineries on earth is yours now ( God's blessings and doggedness).

You inherited the business acumen from your lineage. You utilised your opportunities. One of the smartest business man from the black race.

You had come to do business not monopoly. Affecting almost all facets of life with your ventures with God's benevolence. Please do not shy away from our bedrock of civilization (steel sector). We don't know why we have waited this far for a functional refinery and then you wanted but now giving way to a team never came .

Engineering materials sector in a country is the bedrock of serious industrialisation. From there we build our industries, economies, our futures, etc and our country by ourselves.

Thanks for trying to venture into the steel business. I know say one day soon, you will change your mind. Because for years, nobody is talking about that seriously even with highly paid ministers manning the ministry.

The sectors you dominated, you were a trailblazer.
Can you please blaze our steel sector?

PoliticsSanusi, Kano And Even The Caliphate. by Donbunchis(op): 11:14pm On May 25, 2024
We are all watching what is playing out in Kano today. To some, it's funny.
Let's not join politics with our fundamental thing keeping us as one. Kano Emirate is the case study now, tomorrow it can go to any part of the country.

Traditional rulers are the only line tat can salvage Nigerians truly for now. Same Kano case study.

It's like this today because of the political class. But I believe the time of truth, progress, plainness (which only traditional rulers can guarantee Nigeria for now) has come to Kano Emirate.

Mistake they allowed to happen before was allowing Emir Sunusi to ascend the throne before. We want more like him as our leaders.

Good morning Nigeria

People built schools Muslims, christians and plenty others.
Government built and are running most of them.

But schools wane without plenty things,
Lacking educational tools,
Conducive teaching and learning aids,
Sweet learning environment,
Compitetive learning aura,
So many other factors.

Osun state demolished plenty schools, and then, wasted billions doing unsustainable magic in rebuilding.

Education is nothing but anything but what
Enabling knowledge, impacting knowledge, flourishing the knowledge, perfecting and sustaining it.
