PoliticsWhat? Dokpesi Sues Sss N100mn! by Donjay13(op): 10:45pm On Oct 13, 2010
There is nobody in a democracy that is above the law; many supposedly influential persons try to pretend they are but the truth is that the arm of the law is too long to make anyone too far from its grip. However, its grip might be a little loose on some wrists, but it grips after all. I was baffled when I read in BBC this evening that Raymond Dokpesi had sued the State Security Service, SSS for damages of about N100 million ($660 000) because he was invited and asked some questions concerning his alleged involvement in the notorious 10/1 bombings in Abuja that claimed at least a dozen of Nigerians. According to the SSS and media, a questionable text message was seen in the phone of one of the suspects demanding that Mr. Dokpesi pays up the sum of N4mn and this supposed message was sent to his phone.
Now, I am not saying he should be branded a key suspect for just that message – after all this is 9ja and everything is possible; but it is not unnatural for the SSS to call him to at least clear his name and tender some explanations. Such actions and steps are what we established the top-echelon security body for – they are commissioned to make inquiries and investigations and no body, irrespective of the height of their political cum financial muscle should be out of their radar.
So why stretch the issue further? Mr Dokpesi was not detained up to the half of the maximum time allowable by the law (that’s about 24hrs), he was not physically harassed as you would expect in a less-media-sensitive or ordinary case in the conventional interrogatory procedures; he was not sent even behind the counter (talk more of bar), I mean he was just called for questioning and that was basically on invitation – nobody came to arrest him. In fact, he was treated like a gentleman and respected player in the Nigerian politics and media. So what is he actually suing the SSS for?

If you are wise you will recognise unhealthy political propaganda when you see one. Usually they start from something that would have conventionally been ignored by the system but are often tied around people or occasion that the media is attracted to like flies are to sh*t. Then sentiments are addressed not issues; for instance Ciroma and associates would rather discuss how unsafe they feel under the leadership of President Jonathan after the bombings instead of how the culprits could be caught and future occurrence prevented.

Then another thing you will have to look out for is that the incident is nurtured to stay longer than necessary on our headlines but more importantly such headlines are hardly capable of informing the system on how the society can protect itself or address the issue. You would rather read, “Northern leaders Call for the Impeachment (or resignation of blah, blah, blah)after president’s talk on bombing”; “Group decries media Mogul detention on bombings and call on Jonathan to shorn politics by intimidation”; and so on. You will hardly read “10/1 bombing: Police Boss discusses plan”; or “Bombings: Ubumbum in police net”. Then after all sentiments are exhausted without result, some plotters try to drag along the incident using tools that were picked up in the process. The result is that the society is distracted from what they should be addressing and many good men are branded very bad names.
Now throughout the week you will notice that Dokpesi’s case will blind fold our papers and we will find ourselves dwelling so much on the bombings that we might not remember we were celebrating our 50th year of independence and that INEC has a lot of unaddressed issues for 2011. Such are tools of publicity and I am not surprised since famous media persons are involved in this case. However, I must say that I am not against anyone trying to clear their name but suing the SSS for doing their job is not just the way to go about it. Instead is just a good way to make more noise and hook up with cheap publicity. That’s if it is not a chase for extra N100Mn campaign cash. But I know most Nigerians wouldn’t mind sleeping with one eye open to make sure nobody sleep walks them away from the truth, that treachery must be uncapped!

RomanceWhy I Called It Quit With Debie, My Fiancé. by Donjay13(op): 10:54pm On Oct 09, 2010
Debie was everything I could ever ask for in a woman. But that was what I thought few years ago when we met in U/rimi Kaduna. It was at a friend’s book launch. It wasn’t long before our relationship steamed up. We had all the good times couples with our means could afford, but little did I know that it was all going to end so soon. For starters, I am the commitment-type of guy and I respect relationships a lot.
I thought that attitude would keep us flying, since she was also in for the relationship (or so I thought). We got down to real business months later when I told her I wanted to settle down and raise a family with her. A couple of weeks before I engaged her I discovered she had taken in even though we hadn’t seen each other in a long while.
When I asked her how she got the ‘life’ forming in her stomach, she told me she was raped two months before. I was shocked! She hadn’t told me of the incidence before then and I thought that was very unusual; we always shared our bad and good. However, I tried to excuse her silence on her unstable mind. She told me it happened while she was in school and that the boys were cultists. I was sad and guilty. She must have gone through hell. I kept biting my conscience especially when I didn’t share her pains with her. So we decided on what to do – we agreed to keep the baby but not until she had ran some tests.
Life continued as usual until one very sad day. I woke up happy and feeling good; she was about 6 weeks pregnant. I never knew the day was going to be a nightmare. When I got a call from a colleague at work, who had just been promoted, to attend his emergency thanksgiving party I looked forward to a happier day. The party was to hold in his family house very close to the Obalande slum – a popular hangout for sex workers in Kaduna.
That evening, I drove with Kelechi – my club mate – to the venue. On our way there we decided it was going to be a good idea to stop close by for a drink. We got to a bar, just adjacent the obalande main street and that was when I saw a sight I still can’t believe wasn’t a dream. My honey and fiancée-in-wait was hovering over a small but rich-looking Alhaji. The world and even the gulp of cold Heineken flowing down my throat stood still. I spitted some drink and pointed towards her like a child who just saw a ghost.
“KC, KC”, I called looking for the right word.
“What’s that; why did you spit out your drink like that?” He asked embarrassed. I didn’t have to answer that as he followed my fingers and as his eyes settled on the target; he dropped his glass so had the owner of the bar had to shout
“Make una no Break my cup oh!”
“Williams, isn’t that your Fiancée?” It was his turn to shout.
I didn’t have an answer to his question; I stood up and walked towards the two. My honey was three-quarter necked and she clang to the Alhaji as though if he left her for her peers, she would drop dead that night.

KC called on me to come back, but that was what I thought he was saying; I couldn’t even hear the flow of my breath. I didn’t even know what I was going to do when I met the two. Few steps before them, she turned and the fear in her eyes was in itself scary.
“Baby!” She shouted.
“Baby!!” I was just walking towards her and before she shouted my pet-name the third time, she fainted. The Alhaji slipped into his Xj jaguar and zoomed off. I rushed to pick her up; as I held her in my arms I knew it would be the last time to feel her soft skin. KC came to join me and we drove her back to my apartment. She was ok before we got home but we couldn’t discuss the shock. I woke up the next morning and that was when I knew it was never going to work between us. I called off the engagement; I called it quit.

PoliticsRe: On The Independence Day Bomb Blast And The Security Situation In The Southeast by Donjay13(m): 10:05am On Oct 09, 2010
The idependence blast is one foxhole concealing the agenda of a dangerious kabal of old-generation politicians. Nigerians dont need to be suprise, political bombings are not a new occurence in our polity.

Why would MEND decide to set off a bomb blast as other Nigerians and foriegners celebrate our 50th anniversary; what is their message? Militants have not been known to act like that, they could kidnap, take ransom or defend their creeks; they dont come into town with C4s or time bombs. Who wants to decieve Nigerians?

They think 'let us disrupt the celebrations; prove security is poor, scare foreigners from participating in our programs - so it will be business as usal, and above all let us make the world think the Niger Delta is not in support of the administration. They conspire and then soon later over a dozen Nigerians dies for nothing.

Henry Okah and his fellow militant-business men come up with a claim; why not? who else can take a bad name; except he that has one already? He is promised his release or an intervention; as a prisoner and slave he comes up with all those talks on Aljezera,

Our polity is getting heated up by the day, have anyone observed it hadn't been this hot until our president declared his intentions in september?
PoliticsImpeachment Craze For President Jonathan by Donjay13(op): 9:46am On Oct 09, 2010
I just read this morning that Arewa is seeking President Jonathan's impeachment in court because of the statement he made after the notorious bombblast in Abuja. Yesterday the Northern Leaders Forum, NFL called on him to resign or be impeached for the same cause.

I have thought through the issue. I don't blame these factions for sharing their own views on his 'uninformed' statement; like someone said, "it was too early to make the proclaimations he did without due investigations". However, it is difficult to see sense in both the call for his impeachement and resignation.

It is easier to understand the President's position if we can imagine a scenero of a birthday celebrant who just heard some of his folks were killed on their way to celebrate with him. Jonathan must definately had been unstable both mentally and emotionally after those rogues crash his party - our party.

Beside, it is easier for him to believe that MEND was not responsible because he couldnt believe they still had greivances that big enough after the Amnesty-induced drop of arms. His expectations were confirmed by two Generals of the Tompolo force on AIT this week. They said MEND was not having any issues with the government and that they believed in the amnesty programme of 'baba yar'adua".

But that aside, the president has apologised for his mistakes. He is not a perfect leader and I am sure Nigerians dont need one. Why the dust about his resignation and impeachment. One of the group said they couldnt "trust their safety on a leader that was partial and unfair" in his security programme.

Then it is also difficult to understand how you can seek a President's impeachment in a court of law. If our Reps and the people of this great country are fed up with the president, there is the right way to let him go - We can simply wait till 2011 and refuse to vote him.
