Hummels lacks pace, he gambles a lot trying to stop attacks early and leaves his base open, he never perfected the act of defending as he has always been a liability in defence

When they played the European U21 in 2009, While Boatank and Howedes played Cebtral Defence, Hummels was played in midfield as a DM because he was too "as the spirit leads" in football, You can get away with such in the midfield but in defence where it's about positioning, pace discipline and moving in sync, he always fails.

his lack of pace showed early in his career was why he was shoehorned into defence. He failed to make first team at Bayern when Badstuber was chosen ahead of him and Boateng was bought while Hummels was sent to midtable Dortmund

At Dortmund, he had a traditional defender in Subotic beside him who covered his numerous errors

Bayern fell for it, bought Hummels back and within 3yrs sent him packing

Think about it, Bayern has a German player in their academy, sold him, bought him back and sold him again within 3 seasons. That enough will tell you he is damaged goods

The problem is when you have Hummels as a senior guy making elementary errors, is it Rudiger and Ginter that will be correcting him?
e.g If Ramos is messing up, Is it Militao or Varane tht will be correcting him

We are saying the same thing about Rudiger and the fact he was paired with Hummels who isn’t intelligent and a good leader.

Rudiger has the power and pace, but he’s not experienced and intelligent enough to go solo when his partner is shiit.

We watched Rudiger with Zouma, with Luiz, with Chris and with Hummels. He was shiit with these players because he’s a combat player and it’s difficult to see combat players with good football IQ[Ramos excluded]. They’ll always need experienced players with good football IQ.

Rudiger became good and very influential when Thiago got introduced to that defense, he became good when TT introduced 5 defensive players, if not six[Kante included].

Hummels isn’t the kind of player you can pair with a combat defender because he’s careless and not intelligent, he’s not even the kind of player you can put in front of your keeper because he can trap a ball, turn around and blast his keeper with a powerful shot. He no get sense.

It’s a pity Sancho decided to end his career this way.
