Had we lost the General, the reaction from his supporters and fanatics could easily have plunged Nigeria into its worst chaos in a long time.

Nigeria is a land of the absurd, the strange and the illogical. So last Wednesday, General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) organized to kill himself? Well, that is what those who see Nigeria through the lens of the 2015 elections want us to believe. There are many things wrong with politics and politicians in Nigeria but General Buhari is well and truly above that. Even his opponents admit he is well and truly above board when it comes to the shame and corruption that accompany Nigerian politics. There was clearly a suicide bomber and the bomber was obviously desperate to ensure the retired General was part of his eventual carnage. The incident has since happened, scores have died and Nigerians in their usual way have moved on. Had we lost the General, the reaction from his supporters and fanatics could easily have plunged Nigeria into its worst chaos in a long time.

We have a problem on our hands as terrorists continue not just to maim and kill but to set us against one another. Following each terrorist attack are the accusations and counter accusations. “They know only Igbos sell in that market, so they chose that market to bomb of all places in the north,” is a classic response from a bomb blast that ripped through Kano in northern Nigeria. It did not matter to the person who wrote the words that there is no way anyone would bomb a public place in Kano and not kill more northerners. Even if we took for granted that only a particular ethnic group sells wares in a selected Kano market, should we also assume all the customers and buyers are from the same place? When bombs go off in a church, you are likely to read, “this people are only killing Christians, it is a war against Christians.” You are not likely to read anything from such people when a Mosque gets attacked or when the insurgents kill a revered Islamic scholar. Those who see the world through their bias often times do not see it through the eyes of logic. So they are not likely to remember than bombs are not capable of separating people into ethnic or religious groups, bombs kill and maim everyone within the radius of impact.

That is the same logic to apply when someone like General Buhari survives a major attack that had his vehicles destroyed. That if the terrorists could strike right at a point where one of the nation’s could easily have been killed, they can get anyone. If they missed a major Islamic cleric by a matter of minutes and have killed some other ones, they certainly do not discriminate in terms of their intent; they want to kill anyone not open supportive of their evil and they are not afraid to go after high profile targets just as they kill the poor every other day if not everyday in the northeast.

We need a bi-partisan approach to the war on terror. We are of course not likely to get it soon if someone as highly involved as the minister of state could share an article link claiming one of the major opposition parties is supportive of Boko Haram. This is despite the fact that Boko Haram predates the party by at least 10 years. How can we have a bi-partisan approach to this war if politicians across the board insist on making this more about the 2015 elections than about what it is; a war on our country, our people and our way of life?

And if politicians insist on making it political all the time, what is the role of citizens and civil society? If the numbers get crunched, Nigeria’s poor masses have suffered a lot more in the hands of terrorism. The least we can do is to stop echoing the voices of those who insist on making this about politics and nothing else.

Tobi Before His Untimely Death

Family members of Mr. Raheem Akinfolayemi Badmus are now demanding for justice over the death of their son, Mohammed Oluwatobi Badmus, who died shortly after being allegedly tortured by men of the Nigeria Police at Akure B Division in Ondo State.

DailyPost had reported earlier that the deceased was arrested by police after he was accused of stealing a Nokia Phone from one Prophet identified as Bisi in Akure.

Already, the father of the deceased, who is a public analyst, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police [IGP] over the death of his son.

However, there is now more fact on how late Tobi was allegedly tortured to death by the Security Operatives on July 21, 2014.

Speaking with DailyPost, the elder sister of the deceased, who claimed that she witnessed the torture of her brother by the police said he was filled with life and expectations before he met his untimely death.

According to her, “Tobi was alleged to have stolen a Nokia phone from a nearby church within their neighbourhood by one Prophet Bisi.” .Prophet Bisi called me and said Tobi stole a Nokia phone from his church. When I heard about the allegation, I called Tobi on his mobile line and demanded he comes to the church to meet us. He volunteered he would join us.

“But Prophet Bisi was impatient; he demanded we go and meet him. I accepted and joined him in his car to drive to meet Tobi. Before we got to Tobi, we met his uncle; Mr Sola Oke who brought out the phone, immediately Prophet Bisi claimed it was the missing Nokia phone. Shortly, Tobi arrived but said the phone was not a stolen phone and could not have been the one missing.

“At that point, Tobi said since the matter has been reported to the police, he would want the matter resolved at the police station. And off they drove to the Oke Aro B division in Akure”

Speaking further, Sola said at the police station while standing outside, she saw three police officers; Mr Ade Awodeyi and two others, discussing with the Prophet.

“I later learnt that the case was reported to Mr Ade earlier but I didn’t know the content of their discussion. I only heard from one of the police officers at departure that the boy would be taken to “BAPTISMAL ROOM” where he would be tortured, believing that he would confess to the allegation. .

“I eavesdropped on the last discussion between Prophet Bisi and the three other police officers that my brother be taken to the Baptismal Room where he would be tortured. At this time, I never knew the case was not even indented or recorded. Shortly after the order, I saw my brother dragged out of the station handcuffed with his hands firmly twisted and rested at his back. He was taken away to the Baptismal room located near the station.

“About thirty minutes later, my brother, Mr Ade Awodeyi and the other police officer with whom he carried out the order, emerged from a distant building where the baptismal room was located, Piloting my brother; his eyes already swollen and blurred and couldn’t stand on his legs. Instead of taking him back to the station, they handed him over to Prophet Bisi and directed we go home with him. Tobi was helped into the car and we all drove in Prophet Bisi’s car back home.

“Immediately he departed, the boy’s condition got worst. He held his stomach and started vomiting. We called Prophet Bisi who pleaded we take him to the hospital and that he would join us there. We thought we could have access to health services in the state specialist hospital but later drove to Liberty Hospital, Oluwatuyi quarters. The Doctor expressed their inability to attend to him and at that point, I advised Pastor Bisi that we take him to our family hospital who also rejected him and later referred us to Hope land Hospital where Tobi later passed on.

“We were told he inhaled a thick dose of gas substance from canisters and that it damaged his brain and caused a serious disorder to his body system. The remains of the boy was released to Prophet Bisi, myself and my uncle. His remains was later deposited in the mortuary around 9.30pm or thereabout same day”, Seun said.

Already, the Police Public Relations Officer [PPRO], Wole Ogodo has said that investigation has commenced to unravel what led to the death of Tobi .

Pastor Tunde Bakare

The Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, on Sunday said Nigerians should be grateful that the attempt on the life of a former Head of State, Maj. Gen Muahammadu Buhari, (retd.), was unsuccessful, as it would have led to a crisis of unprecedented destruction and loss of lives.

Bakare, who was Buhari’s running mate on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change during the 2011 Presidential elections, said Buhari had millions of supporters in the North who might have taken the law into their own hands.

He said the crisis would have spread to the South, where more reprisals would occur.

Bakare said this while preaching in his church in Lagos on Sunday.

He said, “But for what could only have been an act of God, this past week might have marked the beginning of the end for our nation. For if the attack targeted at Buhari and his entourage on Wednesday had succeeded, the hatchers of the Nigerian disintegration agenda would have been smiling home to the bank by now.

“The enormous goodwill and massive following enjoyed by the General among the tens of millions of disadvantaged northern youths for whom he has become a messianic symbol, would have transmogrified into the unguided and uncontrollable fury of a vengeful army, whose target would not be without political and ethnic colouration.

“Invariably, this would have sparked up a corresponding reaction of violence from an equally militant antagonistic young population from across the Niger. One needs not be a political analyst to see that such a scenario might have culminated in the demise of our nation.”

Bakare said according to available statistics, between April 2010 and June 2014, terrorism had been the cause of about 6,000 deaths in the country while this year alone, a conservative figure of over 2,500 were reported to have been killed by the activities of Boko Haram.

He warned that it would be naïve for anyone to think that terrorism was purely a northern problem since 486 terror suspects had been arrested in Abia State while Boko Haram had claimed responsibility for the attacks in Apapa, Lagos after an attempt by the government to dub them mere “explosions.”

Bakare said the reasons terrorism thrived in Nigeria were because of the failure of intelligence which resorted to tracking the opposition rather than criminals and the enemies of the state.

He gave other reasons as governmental incompetence, a weakening armed forces, internal and international conspiracy; and opportunism.

He added that the attack should have made it clear to all that Buhari was not a Boko Haram sympathiser.

Bakare noted that the military at present cannot adequately combat terrorism, noting that soldiers confront members of the Boko Haram with “inferior weapons.”

He criticised President Goodluck Jonathan for seeking $1bn foreign loan to fight terrorism, saying “the last time the military was equipped was in the 1980s and there have been budgetary allocations every year.

“The senate say they want to reconvene to consider the request and nobody is asking what happened to the amount budgeted for security this year.”

The cleric noted that the reign of terror should not be ascribed to religion but “sheer psychosis.”

He warned that traditional Islam and radical Islam must not be grouped together, saying that radical Islam, alongside zoning deprivation, oppression and injustice, were the cause of terrorism.

“To win this war, we must embark forthwith on accurate diagnosis. There is a fundamental difference between traditional Islam and the radical Islam of our day. To lump them together would be a tragic mistake. It would only produce error, which would lead to attendant terror.

“I only hope that this is a wakeup call to our government and we must now rise up so that together we can deploy all our resources to stop the terrorists dead in their tracks,” he said.

drealaz24: thanks Broda.
Islam forbids mostly what the western perceived as freedom - homosexuality, prostitution, Gambling, Alcohol, Interest on loans etc

so they think of Islam as a threat to their ideology (New World Order)

and they started their conspiracy against Islam and Islamic countries.

by instigating or sponsoring of terrorism and violence, they are trying to infiltrate, confuse, destabilize the Muslim community and would directly or indirectly sell them their ideology.

BT surely ' ...ALLAH is aware of what they do..."
they are planning but Allah has the best plan

For those quoting the war related verses in the Quran.

Those verses in the Quran were were revealed to prophet Muhammad at a time the idol worshipper and the disbelieving people were killing the Muslims, prophet Muhammad even had to run from his city (Mecca) to Medina, and Muslims used to gather and pray in hiding. yet the unrelenting disbelievers did not repent in their pursuit. so he received those verses and Allah granted him victory over the disbelieving people even with a small army.

The ignorant should see clearly in those verses that

he should not fight those who are not fighting him.

he should not transgress or do injustice.

and his running away from his own city shows a great deal of tolerance.

pls do get an English Quran to read. It shall enlighten you more on this issue and may be you can be saved.
for Allah loves to Forgive and He is full of mercy for mankind.

Then stop tithing because it's in old testament, talk of double standard!
kr0ne: The old testament contains records of the Mosaic Law, in which tit for tat is approved. Plus a man was allowed to marry as many wives as he liked. The coming of Jesus (in the new testament) was to correct a lot of things. He even said 'if you were slapped on the right face, turn your left face for the assaulter. That means Christians don't have to fight back. God fights for us, but u fight for ur own god! Again, His death atoned for our sins hence no need for animal sacrifices. Jesus came to set things straight, to lead us closer to God. We don't need sacrifices anymore, just pray in Jesus name and turn away from ur sins and you'd be forgiven! That's why we're Christians, followers of Christ.
So quoting the old testament to spite Christians only makes you ridiculous, sir

Birniwa: Did you know that your brain is as BROKEN as the link you've given above ? Islam is a religion of peace and will never in any way spread mischief. These are the verses from the Holy Quran that directly condemn violence and killing of innocent souls.

VERSES FROM THE QURAN THAT CONDEMN VIOLENCE OF ANY FORM

Quran 5:32
..Whoever kills a SOUL it is as if he has killed the entire mankind, and whoever saves a SOUL it is as if he has saved an the entire mankind..

Quran 5:2
Do not let your hatred of a people incite to aggression

Quran 5:8
And do not let ill-will towards any folk
incite you so that you swerve from dealing justly. Be just; that is nearest to
heedfulness.

Quran 16:90
Allah commands justice and doing good
and giving to relatives. And He forbids
indecency and doing wrong and tyranny.
He warns you so that hopefully you will
pay heed.

Lastly, I invite you to explore Islam and find out what it actually teaches instead of sitting in darkness, doing copy and paste from the internet (written by enemies of Islam like you) just to criticise. Islam is much more than that!

kudoxs: . You shouldn't say what you don't know, all these Verses pointed out in the links are revealed when the Idol worshipers waged war against the muslim, they didn't fight back @ first, they were sent packing from their place of birth , the oppression was too much so that it got to a stage where they had to fight back, it's not like Almighty Allah just said they should pick up their weapons and start killing innocent people. Infact in Islam, anyone that kills an innocent soul is definitely going to hell fire and he will inherit all the sins of the innocent soul he killed. In my own opinion, I THINK bokoharam started as a local islamic sect , but somewhere along the line I THINK it was hijacked by some people to settle their political score.

tbaba1234: You missed the verse before:

Fight in God’s cause against those who fight you, but do not overstep the limits:c God does not love those who overstep the limits. (2:190)

A little education will be appropriate here.

The word 'Qitaal' translated as fight refers to mutual combat, I.e War.

Meaning people who are also fighting you.

The original context of revelation is actual war situation.

We are to deal justly and kindly with those who have done nothing to harm us: Allah says

"Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for your faith, nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: For Allah loves those who are just" (60:cool

We are to deal justly and kindly with those that have not harmed us in any way...

So wars do happen, don't they? ... What are the rules of conflict for the muslim?

Narrated By 'Abdullah : During some of the Ghazawat of the Prophet a woman was found killed. Allah's Apostle disapproved the killing of women and children. (Saheeh Muslim Book 019, Hadith Number 4319).

Then Abu Bakr, the first caliph based on the prophetic teaching advised a military commander, Yazid, "I advise you ten things| Do not kill women or children or an aged, infirm person. Do not cut down fruit-bearing trees. Do not destroy an inhabited place. Do not slaughter sheep or camels except for food. Do not burn bees and do not scatter them. Do not steal from the booty, and do not be cowardly." Maliks Muwatta Book 021, Hadith Number 010.

[size=13pt]Now, will you follow the admonition preached from the Bible above?[/size]
Heamah: There are actually many verses in the quran that support violence. I am not a muslim but I have read through the quran to find out if there are such verses. Of course a muslim can choose to act or not to act on such verses. As long as those verses exist, violent muslims would continue to exist

Quran (2:191-193) - "And kill them wherever you
find them, and turn them out from where they
have turned you out. And Al-Fitnah [disbelief] is
worse than killing...
but if they desist, then lo! Allah is forgiving and
merciful. And fight them until there is no
more Fitnah [disbelief and worshipping of others
along with Allah] and worship is for Allah alone.
But if they cease, let there be no transgression
except against Az-Zalimun (the polytheists, and
wrong-doers, etc.)

Quran (2:244) - "Then fight in the cause of Allah,
and know that Allah Heareth and knoweth all
things."

Quran (2:216) - "Fighting is prescribed for
you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye
dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye
love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah
knoweth, and ye know not."

Quran (3:56) - "As to those who reject faith, I will
punish them with terrible agony in this world and
in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to
help."

Quran (4:74) - "Let those fight in the way of Allah
who sell the life of this world for the other. Whoso
fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or be he
victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast
reward."

Quran (4:89) - "They but wish that ye should
reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same
footing (as they): But take not friends from their
ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From
what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades,
seize them and slay them wherever ye find them;
and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from
their ranks."

Quran (4:95) - "Not equal are those believers who
sit (at home) and receive no hurt, and those who
strive and fight in the cause of Allah with their
goods and their persons. Allah hath granted a
grade higher to those who strive and fight with
their goods and persons than to those who sit (at
home). Unto all (in Faith) Hath Allah promised
good: But those who strive and fight Hath He
distinguished above those who sit (at home) by a
special reward,-"

Quran (4:104) - "And be not weak hearted in
pursuit of the enemy; if you suffer pain, then
surely they (too) suffer pain as you suffer pain..."

Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of
those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their
heads and strike off every fingertip of them"

Quran (8:15) - "O ye who believe! When ye meet
those who disbelieve in battle, turn not your
backs to them. (16)Whoso on that day turneth
his back to them, unless maneuvering for battle
or intent to join a company, he truly hath
incurred wrath from Allah, and his habitation will
be hell, a hapless journey's end."

uran (8:39) - "And fight with them until there is
no more fitna (disorder, unbelief) and religion
should be only for Allah"

Quran (8:59-60) - "And let not those who
disbelieve suppose that they can outstrip (Allah's
Purpose). Lo! they cannot escape. Make ready for
them all thou canst of (armed) force and of
horses tethered, that thereby ye may dismay the
enemy of Allah and your enemy."

Quran (8:65) - "O Prophet, exhort the believers to
fight..."

Quran (9:5) - "So when the sacred months have
passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever
you find them, and take them captive and
