To construct a dam a diversion of the water inflow has to be done. However the presence of igneous rock very close to the ground level was another gross challenge because creating a canal that can adequately channel water away for the time being was impossible, hence the two pipes in the seen in pics above did the job |
DORS:The first blast did not go through so a second was done and the result was manageable |

from the stage of excavation was a great challenge. guess what, it was the presence of massive igneous rock in the area of the proposed construction, averagely 1to 1.5m below the normal GL. hence our sure option was to blast the rocks, the really active work going on at this stage of the project, was surveying. surveying in the sense that we are way past preliminary survey work, the survey work to keep the project on forward move was marking points on rocks at known distance , where holes would be drilled through the rock using compressed air machine drillers for the dynamite to be buried, sure it means a separate expense for the project and awarding them to professionals, how much more was spent |

sholatech: ![]() sholatech:let begin with the details the dam is a small dam by classification, 4m height concrete dam with earth ramp. the concrete dam is 94m long with a 15m spillway, the foundation is 2.5m deep however almost the full length of the dam is sitting on a foundation of rock. the ramp is 150m long |
hi everyone am new here based on contributions, I hope to be welcomed. Am going to start off with a dam project, and I would be expecting my fellow engineers contribution and suggestions thanks. |
