I have been documenting my progress as a web developer on this forum.

Almost a year ago, I shared my very first web development project, a blog I built. I posted the link here in the Webmasters section, but some Nairalanders criticized the website for being ugly, suggesting I should quit.

The link to that blog now points to a different project of mine, but you can find the original post in my post history.

Now, nearly a year later, I’ve landed my first dollar paying gig. A client wanted me to build a web application for them. Honestly, I could have charged more given the scale of the project, but I thought that by offering a lower rate, I could get my foot in the door. I do regret it, though, because the work I did was complex enough to warrant at least $2,000.

Anyway, there’s always a second chance and I won't undersell my services again.

Who knows where I’ll be a year from now?

I won’t be posting my future contracts here for obvious reasons, but I wanted to celebrate this one as it’s my first.

I document my journey as a web developer here, but you can check out my personal blog if you’re interested in reading about my other professional experiences unrelated to web development: https://rxjourney.com.ng

Carpe diem, seize the day. Gather ye rosebuds while ye may.

Please house, what is the best way to withdraw from Upwork to get the best rates?

Should i use Direct to local bank, Payoneer, or PayPal?

Withdrawing directly to a local bank offers a rate of about 1400 Naira to 1 USD, which is not reflective of the real exchange rate. But, I'm wondering if I would lose even more money by using Payoneer or PayPal, considering they charge fees for deposits and withdrawals.

ProgrammingA Notepad Built With Django And HTMX by downbad(op): 6:55pm On Oct 04, 2024
I've been documenting my journey as a web developer on this platform and my post history will show you this.

My previous project was a personal blog for discussing my journey as an intern pharmacist. You can find this project by going through my post history.

In response to the observed gap in some pharmacists' ability to discuss drugs beyond basic dispensing, I developed RxNotes, a simple note web application designed to share summarized drug information tailored for pharmacists. This platform allows users to search for specific drugs and quickly access concise information about their mechanisms of action (MOA). The application aims to expand its database in the coming days to provide more comprehensive resources. This project serves as my contribution to the pharmacy profession, and I welcome suggestions for improvement and collaboration from fellow pharmacists and developers.

You can explore the application at https://chistev.pythonanywhere.com

Built using Django and HTMX, RxNotes ensures a seamless user experience for those seeking to enhance their pharmaceutical knowledge.

Express js, according to stack overflow survey, is the most popular backend framework.

Though Django is my favorite.
ProgrammingLearn Backend Web Development in Port Harcourt by downbad(op):
Are you in Port Harcourt and eager to master backend web development with Django or Express.js? I offer personalized, on-site tutorials designed to provide you with a strong foundation in these frameworks.

This isn't an online tutorial. If you need that, you can find a variety of them on the web. Unlike online courses, my hands-on approach ensures that you grasp essential concepts thoroughly, empowering you with a solid foundation on which to stand on your own.

My post history has my portfolio.

Please, it needs to be emphasized that this mainly focuses on backend development.

If you're interested, please send me a mail!

Why did u choose to use Django.
"The web framework designed for perfectionists"

Working under deadlines allows me to focus on writing business logic without worrying about users, authentication, database management, or admin dashboards. It's well-established, versatile, and has a proven track record of scalability.

It features automatic migrations that seamlessly update changes made to my models into the database schema. Additionally, I don’t have to stress about security, as it includes built-in, up-to-date protections against issues like SQL injection, cross-site request forgery, and cross-site scripting.

Also, I love Python and if you use Flask, chances are you'd be building something like Django yourself.

It's my favorite backend technology, though I'm good with Express Js too.

I’m not going to lie, the front end of ur blog is wack. Compare it to other blog sites and I’m sure u Will understand what I’m saying. Secondly, I feel you are too stubborn and rigid. Getting a tech job requires great preparation. There more job posts on react and you’ve been advised to pick up the framework, yet you keep insisting that it’s either svelte or nothing, and if at all opportunity comes, you had choose to work as a back end developer. Lol, comrade, you got no choice. There are no millions of jobs out there so to easily get employed, you have to be prepared to take up what ever role opportunity throws at you.
There are jobs for Svelte. I'm not a frontend developer.

WebmastersSeeking Web Developer Opportunities: Any Help Or Guidance Appreciated by downbad(op): 4:10pm On Sep 05, 2024
This is a cross post from the programming forum.

I’m reaching out for help in my job search as a web developer. Despite extensive efforts on various job boards (Indeed, Upwork, Wellfound, etc), I’ve yet to find success. The current economic climate has only added to the challenge and frustration.

I’m posting this in hopes that someone established in the industry might be able to offer guidance or opportunities. My post history includes a list of my projects for review.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Afikoo:
The last time I bought a phone was in July 2021. A MI 11 Lite for 154k. The phone is the best phone I have used so far. Seamless, sleek. I haven't had issue with the phone .
There is a need to change it as I feel it's getting old and the camera keep crashing.

I have been researching on phone to buy and honestly can't believed I have to spend almost 700k to buy a beautiful phone that suit my taste.

I am confused though. Please suggest a very strong phone I can get with 700k that will last for me. Thanks alot
I'm a web developer if you ever need one to promote your business. Seems you have a lot of money, I might as well pitch my service to you.

great job bro, however if you're looking for more opportunities you should lean towards react or vue more. the job market is not too friendly for now. if i were you i would network more with other devs because these days more jobs are gotten through referrals within your network. i'm also looking for more opportunities as i started solo as well. although i'm employed but i'm being paid peanuts.
If I'm working in a company I'd take a backend role.

Thanks for the compliments.
