Those were the days when 1 Dollar was not up to 5 Naira. Agriculture generated ample foreign exchange, and cost of living was more like free as breathing in nature's oxygen.
Nigeria was apparently a happier state then, given military rule or otherwise.
It's now other way round and only a few cares about timely restoration !
If there was a button you could press to go back to that era… would you press it?
That was my mum’s answer.
She began telling me what life really felt like growing up in Nigeria in the 70s and 80s… and the more she spoke, the more it felt like stepping into a completely different world.
The more she spoke, the more it sounded like a simpler life… but it makes you wonder… was it actually better?
Note: This was made from my mum’s perspective, so it might differ slightly from your own experience or that of your parents.
If you experienced this era (or heard stories about it), I’d really like to hear yours.

A Nigerian woman goes viral after unboxing the food palliative boxes she received — reportedly linked to President Bola Tinubu and APC supporters. In the clip, she boldly declares: “I have collected Tinubu’s boxes of gifts. Let me show you what’s inside. I will eat it, but I will still not vote for him. It’s my money. I am paying taxes. He cannot use this to take away the future of my children.” Watch as she opens the branded cartons to reveal everyday staples: bags of rice, vegetable oil, noodles (Golden Penny brand spotted), and other basic items distributed as "Renewed Hope" relief amid Nigeria's ongoing economic hardship. This moment perfectly captures the current mood — many Nigerians are accepting short-term handouts (seen as their own tax money returned) while refusing to let it sway their vote in the upcoming elections. Is this smart resistance or just survival? Comments are divided: some call it "chop but no sell your future," others slam it as disguised vote-buying.
What do you think — would you collect it and still vote your conscience? Drop your take below
A businesswoman, Tracy Ohiri, who recently accused Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, of owing her money has now publicly apologized in a new video that surfaced online.
In the video message, Ohiri explained that after consulting with her legal team, family members, and close friends, she decided it was best to give peace a chance and move on from the controversy.
She also addressed one of the most widely circulated claims from the earlier dispute. According to her, she never said that the Minister tied a towel while meeting her in a hotel room, a statement that had generated widespread discussion online.
In her words, she said: “I never said Engineer David Umahi tied a towel to meet me in a hotel room. I apologize if the allegations have been magnified and taken out of context. My family and I have decided to move on and face our lives and business, and we want everyone to respect this decision.”
The dispute between Ohiri and the Minister had earlier drawn massive attention across social media, with several commentators and influencers reacting to the matter.
Among those who spoke about the issue were personalities such as VeryDarkMan and Omoyele Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters, as well as other concerned Nigerians.
Following the apology video, reactions online have been mixed. While some social media users believe the apology may have come after pressure or a possible settlement, others argue that the decision to step back from the dispute could simply be an effort to restore peace and move forward.
The situation continues to generate conversations online as many Nigerians share differing opinions about the sudden apology.
You can't marry, yet you keep collecting and never define... Coward Village people.
Rep9jaCom: A dramatic scene unfolded at the University of Cross River State after a female student reportedly rejected a public marriage proposal from her boyfriend despite claims that he had been financially supporting her throughout her time in school.

He came to her school to propose, but she turned him down, despite the fact that he has been sponsoring her.
Rapmoney: A Nigerian woman has made a video, accusing Nigerian Minister of Works, David Nweze Umahi of owing her the sum of 250 million Naira for contracts for the past 12 years, and has refused to pay her because she rejected his request for a relationship.
The video was made before she was arrested by the police on the order of Mr Umahi. She has been taken to Abuja, and has insisted that David Umahi was intimidating her.
Political activist, Omoleye Sowore has also accused David Umahi of using government power to intimidate citizens over personal issues. Sowore accosted Umahi at the police headquarters yesterday while Umahi had arranged with police for the woman to be presented, where he ended up threatening her. There were altercations between Mr Sowore and security personnel of the minister.
The allegation that David Umahi ordered a woman’s arrest over a long-standing debt dispute has intensified scrutiny of arrest practices in Nigeria. If courts exist to adjudicate debt claims, why resort to arrest? Does influence determine how quickly the police act?… pic.twitter.com/wKAbKDozT6
Go get a life.. A better meaningful one and watch out for the real difference
Dpsychologist: There is a breakup that does not come with a speech. No dramatic argument. No clean ending. No final talk.
Just… less.
Less effort. Less affection. Less presence.
The texts slow down. The calls get shorter. The warmth cools. You start feeling like you are talking to someone who is physically there but emotionally packed and halfway out the door.
You ask what is wrong. They say nothing. You ask if you are okay. They say you are overthinking. You try harder. They try less.
This is the slow fade.
And it is one of the most manipulative exits in modern relationships.
Some people do not have the courage to say, “I do not want this anymore.” So instead, they engineer your exhaustion. They withdraw slowly. They become inconsistent. They create confusion on purpose.
Why?
Because they do not want to be the villain.
Ending a relationship directly requires ownership. It requires accepting that you are hurting someone. Not everyone has the emotional spine for that. So they push you to do it.
They starve the connection until you snap.
Then when you finally react, when you cry, argue, or walk away, they get to say, “You gave up.”
But let us be clear about something.
Silence is communication. Distance is a decision. Emotional neglect is a breakup in progress.
When someone truly wants you, you do not live in confusion. You do not beg for clarity. You do not feel like you are competing with air.
Confusion is not mystery. It is withdrawal.
The cruel genius of the invisible exit is this. They keep giving you just enough to stay, but never enough to feel secure. A breadcrumb here. A kind word there. A good weekend followed by three cold ones.
You stay because you remember how it used to feel. They stay because they are too afraid to end it.
But here is the revolutionary part.
You do not need their formal goodbye to accept reality. You do not need a speech to validate what you are experiencing. If someone consistently shows you reduced effort, reduced care, reduced presence, believe that.
Do not wait to be officially discarded.
If you feel like you are the only one fighting for oxygen in the relationship, the relationship has already ended. You are just the last one still holding on. And walking away from neglect does not make you weak. It makes you awake.
If you have experienced the slow fade, you are not crazy. You are not dramatic. You simply noticed what they hoped you would tolerate.
I never regretted giving... I'm still giving and will always give in love and reason.
Sirchiboy: To Make It, You Have To Be Financially Heartless Even To Your Family Members — Skitmaker Ziczaloma
Popular skitmaker Ziczaloma has shared his thoughts on financial independence, advising people to adopt strict financial boundaries if they truly want to escape p%verty.
In a short video clip posted online while speaking on financial independence, the entertainer stated that “if you know you want to come out of p%verty, you need to be financially heartless even to your direct family”.
He explained that such a decision is not about being wicked, but about breaking out of the poverty cycle. Recounting his personal experience, he said growing up he always wanted to be financially stable. However, many of his business attempts did not succeed. “I did a lot of business while growing up but most of them failed because of family,” he stated.
Ziczaloma further stressed that “African family and even your own family are very entitled to your wealth. Even when the purpose of working is to save money and build a better future”.
Reinforcing his point, he stated; “It is very very okay to be financially heartless even to your friends and family so that you can even save up and break that circle. They will h@te you for it but trust me it is for your own good.” He concluded.
She seems not to know the difference between tough and reasonable.

Rep9jaCom: A lady has sparked conversation online after revealing what type of men she believes women are truly attracted to.
According to her, the dynamics of love and attraction have been often misunderstood by the male gender.
She explained,
The lady reveals that ladies love fighting for love so when there’s nothing to fight about, they don’t like it.
The post, which has gone viral, prompted mixed reactions online, with some agreeing with her views on passion and attraction, while others criticised the idea that conflict fuels love.
She's right with the difference, but she's not holding the bull by the horn.
For instance, where is the place of "strength, unity, mutual respect, love and collective effort, including respect for dignity of labor " among majorities of present day Nigerian leadership...
USA present is better than their past, but Nigeria leadership is u largely underplaying this and they think that will continue. I hope that same Mr. Trump will not shock her someday if this irresolute trend persists. Can someone quote the national anthem here...?
Another buhaha in display .. .. If leaders could pretend to be leading, yet flaunting and wasting masses wealth while they watch like this, answer the following questions:
1. How many Nigerians are Mumu?
2. Which proportion comes from South - east ?
3. Is Nigeria a responsible Country ?
4. Are Nigerians actually cognizant of, and actually ready for change ?
Best of luck !
