COURT SENTENCES FINAL YEAR STUDENT TO DEATH BY HANGING By Rotmwa Kassam Paulina A High Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State, has sentenced a final-year student of Government Science Technical College, Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area, to death by hanging for the murder of a teacher. The student, identified as Odey Emmanuel, was convicted of culpable homicide punishable with death, contrary to Sections 188 and 189 of the Penal Code Law of Plateau State, 2017, in Charge No. PLD/J178C/2021. Presiding over the case, Hon. Justice S J Bakfur held that the prosecution, led by the Plateau State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Philemon Audu Daffi, Esq., represented by Chief State Counsels, Nanfe Mbap, Esq., and Solomon Gyang Deme, Esq., proved the case against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt. According to the prosecution, the tragic incident occurred on July 30, 2022, within the premises of Government Science Technical College, Bukuru, located in Jos South Local Government Area. On the morning of the incident, the late Mr. Job Dashe, a staff member of the college, and a fellow teacher who were on duty, were supervising the serving of breakfast in the school kitchen around 9:30 a.m. and lunch around 2pm. It was during this duty that the deceased confronted the student, Odey Emmanuel, for violating school rules of collecting double rations. Eyewitnesses testified that following disciplinary action from Mr. Dashe and his colleague, the student became visibly agitated and confrontational. According to testimonies from five prosecution witnesses — comprising school staff, law enforcement officers, and medical personnel from Mercy Seat Hospital — the defendant openly threatened the deceased. Witnesses recalled Emmanuel saying, "I shall do it, nobody will stop me," and later declaring, "I must hurt this teacher," while fellow students reportedly cheered him on. In a shocking turn, Emmanuel was said to have produced a knife and stabbed Mr. Dashe in the chest, specifically near the right-hand side. Teachers at the scene rushed the victim to Mercy Seat Hospital, but upon arrival, doctors confirmed that Mr. Dashe had died before reaching the facility. The defendant was subsequently arrested, charged, and arraigned before the court. During the trial, the state prosecution presented strong evidence, including medical reports, eyewitness testimonies, and police findings that corroborated the sequence of events. The defense failed to disprove the overwhelming evidence brought forward by the state. In delivering the judgment, Hon. Justice S. J. Bakfur noted the premeditated nature of the attack, the public setting in which it occurred, and the clear intent expressed by the defendant prior to the act. He emphasized that such acts of violence within educational institutions pose a grave threat to society and must be met with the full force of the law. Odey Emmanuel was therefore found guilty of culpable homicide punishable with death and was sentenced to death by hanging. Charles The Talking Pen®

PLATEAU STATE GOVERNOR IMPOSES 24-HOUR CURFEW ON JOS/BUKURU METROPOLIS In a decisive move to enhance the security of lives and maintain public order, Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Jos/Bukuru Metropolis, effective from 12 midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024. Governor Mutfwang, in consultation with state security agencies, took this decision after reviewing the actions of unscrupulous individuals who exploited the nationwide protest to unleash terror on innocent citizens. The governor noted that these criminal elements, armed with daggers, machetes, and other dangerous weapons, broke into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction, looting foodstuffs and other valuable items. Governor Mutfwang emphasized that the curfew is in the best interest of all citizens and urged everyone to comply fully to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents. He directed security agencies in the state to ensure the total enforcement of the curfew across Jos/Bukuru Metropolis. He warned those planning to unleash further terror on innocent citizens to desist immediately or face the full wrath of the law. The governor also called on the relevant security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive in their duties to prevent any potential disruptions to law and order. Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the citizens of Plateau State, particularly the clergy and imams, for their unwavering support of government's policies and programs. He acknowledged their cooperation and adherence to directives during the planned nationwide protest and praised their commitment to maintaining peace and unity. "The peaceful conduct of our people before, during, and after the nationwide protest is commendable. I urge everyone to continue to uphold this culture of peace as we work together to build a united and progressive Plateau," Governor Mutfwang added. Please Note: Any earlier statement should be disregarded as this is authentic. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Executive Governor of Plateau State. August 4, 2024.

A Jos based social media influencer, Charles Obinwa (Charles The Talking Pen), shared this story on his wall! *†*********************** Let's make this go viral.. Enough is Enough!!!!!! NSCDC personnel assaults woman in Jos, partially blinds her A yet-to-be-identified personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC on Friday assaulted a shop owner, Mrs. Joy Owolabi at the Nanmwa Junction, Abattoir area, Jos South local government area of Plateau State, leading to serious injuries on her eyes and other parts of her body. The incident happened a few meters away from the office of the organisation, although the victim had reported the incident, the organisation is yet to apprehend the personnel and his accomplice who assaulted her. Before the Friday incident, it was gathered that sometime last month, the said personnel (whom Mrs. Owolabi could identify facially as she does not know his name,) came to the betting shop next to the victim’s shop and parked his official motorcycle in front of Mrs Owolabi’s shop, blocking her entrance and she called his attention to re-park the motorcycle but she was ignored and an argument ensued. On that Friday, the personnel returned to the betting shop with his colleague and parked his motorcycle in the similar manner that the woman complained about. The incident led to an exchange of words between him and the shop owner. Instead of parking his motorcycle properly, the victim and some eyewitnesses confirmed, he punched the victim, pushed her to the ground and started flogging her with a wire as neighbours and passersby watch helplessly. None could rescue the woman as the assaulter and his colleague were armed. Narrating her ordeal, Mrs. Owolabi said, “I was in my shop on the 2nd of September, 2022, at about noon, I saw two men in uniform, they were from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, they rode into my shop. One stood by the roadside and the second one came to the entrance of my shop. “They came with an official motorcycle, when the man parked, blocking the entrance of my shop, I went and met him and said please, help me re-park this motorcycle because the way you parked, I cannot enter the shop. “My neighbour who is the Naijabet Manager also came out and saw the way the man parked the motorcycle; he started pleading with the man to re-park it. As we were talking, the man punched me in my left eye and I fell to the ground. “As I was trying to stand up, he punched me in the second eye. He removed the wire and started flogging me. They came in armed so people were afraid of coming to my rescue and when this thing was going on, people were just watching. “After flogging me, the two of them left with the motorcycle. When they left, I locked my shop and went to their office which is not far from my shop to report.” Another shop owner who did not want to be mentioned added, “This is somebody’s wife that this boy beat like an animal because he is wearing a uniform. We were scared of going close for fear of being shot. It appears that the boy is on something, apart from getting justice for the woman, he should be fished out and punished to save the woman in his life. It could be that is the manner he is flogging them at home.” He appealed that the NSCDC should not sweep the incident under the carpet in the guise of not being able to identify the culprit, saying, “the owner of the shop that he used to enter can help to identify him.” At the time of this report, the victim was still receiving treatment at a hospital in Jos as she is feeling severe pains all over her body. It was also gathered that the victim was asked to return on Monday as all personnel on a motorcycle would be presented for her to “identify” who assaulted her. However, the State NSCDC Public Relations Officer, DSC Madaki Longbit said he was not aware of the incident but would find out on Monday. His words, “I was not informed, Friday was a busy day for us and I was not at the Command but give me till Monday to confirm, I will get back to you. © Victor Daniel Charles The Talking Pen Let's push this to the Front page please! This happened today at Bukuru, Jos South. Plateau State. 8 Primary School Pupils attack their Class monitor for writing their names in the "Noise Makers Book". A follower of my Page shared this images with me this afternoon. In his words, the Pupils who waylayed the monitor, threatened to kill and butcher him. He (The Monitor) gathered courage and got into a scuffle with them as he was faced with his death, until succour came his way when the Follower and some passersby noticed what was happening. The boys were given a hot pursuit and two of them were caught while the others escaped. The attack has been reported to their school situated around "Angwan Doki". This is so unfortunate. I wonder what would have become of this boy if help didn't come his way early. Charles The Talking Pen
