Argentina captain Lionel Messi has said he does not know much about the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of the World Cup.

Both sides are set to clash in the final match of Group D on June 29 in a match that could decide the group's supremacy.

Mikel Obi led his teammates to a 4-2 victory against the Seleccion last November and the charismatic Messi was not present in the match.

And the Argentina captain disclosed that despite scoring a brace against the West Africans in the last World Cup in Brazil he still knows little about Gernot Rohr's side.

“We don’t know so much about Nigeria but the African teams are normally compact, tough and strong. So it will be no walkover,” he said.

The attacker almost single-handedly rescued his country’s qualifying campaign to ensure they made it to the World Cup.

The Seleccion looked unlikely to qualify for a 13th consecutive World Cup finals, after the Barcelona star man initially announced his international retirement in 2016.

Without their talisman, Argentina took just seven points from the first eight games and looked in danger of collapse.

But when the prodigal son returned they won 21 points from the next 10 matches, with Messi scoring a hat-trick in the final game against Ecuador.

And Lionel Messi is adamant the squad is strong enough to be one of the favourites. “It’s true that the qualifying phase was complicated for us because we took too long to do it,” he said.

“But the important thing is that we are here in this World Cup and that we give everything to achieve as much as we can.

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and his Barcelona arch rival Lionel Messi have probably the last chance to make their mark in the FIFA World Cup at Russia 2018.

However, according to Daily Star quoting Don Balon, the Argentine star wants the 2016 UEFA European Championship winner gone.
Meanwhile, Serie A giants Juventus are said to be monitoring the midfielder’s situation as they are considering signing him.


But, they will have to contend with Napoli, who are in pole position to sign the Portuguese star as they look to bolster their ranks.
Gomes has scored just three goals in 44 Spanish League appearances for the Bluagrana in the last two seasons.
The La Liga champions have been superb all season long – losing just one league game this season, but Ernesto Valverde is still expected to shuffle his squad in the coming weeks


Barca’s unbeaten run came to a rude shock when they got beaten 5-4 by Levante on Sunday, May 13 in their penultimate match of the season.

Senator Jonah Jang has been sent to prison by a Plateau state high court on Wednesday, May 16
Jonah Jang, former plateau state governor was imprisoned alongside Yusuf Pam, a former government official in the state on Wednesday, May 16.
The Cable reports that the duo was accused of misappropriating N6.3 billion while serving in the state.
Robert Clark who is the counsel to the accused had asked that they be granted bail on self-recognition but the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) asked the court to consider the gravity of the situation.
"Any offence that exceeds three years should not be treated as ordinary and presumable for bail.”
Justice Daniel Longji in his reaction said he would need more time to study the argument put forward by the two parties.
He asked that the two accused be remanded in prison pending the adjourned date of May 24 for ruling on the bail application.
He said: “There is a situation here where the Law becomes an axe. I have not studied the charges and I cannot use my personal knowledge of the accused persons to ask him to go on bail. They should be remanded in prison pending the ruling on his bail on Thursday next week.”

"He also said that the construction of the EFCC headquarters is a demonstration of the federal government's commitment to the fight against corruption in Nigeria. Dogara urged the federal government to begin to place emphasis on staff and officials of the commission whose trust and sacrifice are critical to the entire anti-corruption war. “Mr. President, we have the responsibility to insulate the officers and men of this agency from temptation and that means we have to better their condition of service," he said. Meanwhile, NAIJ.com earlier reported that the President had said he was removed from office as Nigeria's military head of state in 1985 for fighting corruption. Following Tuesday’s humiliation at the hands of AS Roma, Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta has hinted at calling it quits at the Camp Nou.
Iniesta watched agonisingly on the sidelines after his 81st-minute substitution as a Daniele De Rossi-captained side grabbed a third goal in the 82nd minute to advance to the semi finals.
The shocking loss, after a 4-1 first leg advantage, confined Barcelona to their second straight exit to an Italian side and Iniesta has hinted that he has had enough.

A former husband to a 42-year-old teacher in Saldanha, West Coast, South Africa has reportedly entered her school and shot her in front of her primary school pupils.
Officers were tipped off about the shooting on Wednesday at around 7:20 Am According to News24, they sent officers to the school where they found a woman’s body in the parking area.
The Western Cape police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, said they found the body of a man on a road near the school. He had a wound to the head.
Provincial education MEC Debbie Schäfer confirmed that the dead woman was a teacher at the school.
“The teacher was allegedly shot by a male perpetrator who is reportedly her ex-spouse. The perpetrator is reported to have then turned the gun on himself. Both succumbed to their wounds,” she said.
“Learners who witnessed the incident are greatly, and understandably traumatised, as are the teachers’ two children.”
She said department officials were immediately dispatched to the school.
“The school has made the decision to dismiss learners early and a school psychologist and social worker will be dispatched to provide counselling for those who are in need of assistance, or witnessed the event.”
Teachers at the school and a neighbouring school were severely traumatised, she said, and would be given support and counselling.
