The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the appeal of the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Engineer Musa Wada, and its party against the election of Mr Yahaya Bello as Governor of Kogi State. The apex court in a unanimous judgment dismissed the appeal for lacking in merit and upheld the concurrent decisions of the Court of Appeal and the majority judgment of the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. The lead judgment read by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, held that the appellants were unable to prove allegations of electoral malpractice in the November 16 governorship election. The apex court held that failure of the appellants to call polling units agents was fatal to their case, adding that the appellants merely dumped documents that could not be attached probate value. The apex court is set to deliver judgment in SDP’s appeal

The Secretary to the Government of the
Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, has
celebrated the Federal Medical Centre (FMC)
in Yola, Adamawa State, and the Chief
Medical Director (CMD), Prof Awwal
Muhammad Abubakar, following the
successful separation of conjoined twins.
The SGF made the announcement over the
weekend at an occasion organised in Yola
to celebrate the CMD, who is also the lead
surgeon, and the hospital for successfully
carrying out the separation of the
conjoined twins.
Mustapha noted that the success has
made Adamawa State and the hospital
proud as a centre for medical excellence in
the country.
He said since the inception of the FMC, the
hospital has separated conjoined twins in
2013, 2018 and 2020, adding that this
makes it the fifth time the CMD, Prof
Awwal, has separated conjoined twins in
his career, and he needs to be honoured.
“l will try to talk to the federal government
so that we can honour you; surely your
labour will not go in vein,” he said.
Mustapha urged Nigerians to always
express love to one another and shun any
divisive tendency, adding that the fact that
conjoined twins born in the Niger Delta
came to Yola to receive free treatment,
shows an unprecedented love extended
by one Nigerian to another irrespective of
any difference.
He noted that such spirit must underpin
how Nigerians should relate.
The SGF commended the Chief of Air Staff,
Air Mashal Abubakar Sadiq, for airlifting
the conjoined twins who were born in
Beyalsa State to Yola to receive the free
treatment.
Shortly after the occasion, Prof. Auwal
revealed to journalists that Grace and
Mercy, the eight months old set of female
omphalopagus twins, were delivered by
Caesarean section at the General Hospital
in Nembe, Bayelsa State, on December 25,
2019, with a combined birth weight of
5.8kg, shared a single umbilical cord and
were joined from the mid thorax to the
mid-abdomen with a fused liver.
He said the twins were earlier managed at
FMC in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, before
being transferred to the FMC in Yola,
Adamawa State, on January 4, 2020, to be
separated.
Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Director of
FMC Yenagoa, Dr. Dennis Alagoa, said while
receiving the babies on arrival at Bayelsa
International Airport on Sunday disclosed
that a team of pediatric surgeons and
healthcare personnel from the two
medical institutions collaborated to
achieve the feat while the Nigerian Air
Force provided logistics for medical
evacuation from Yenagoa to Yola.
“We applaud the Chief of Air Staff, Air
Abubakar, for his swift intervention by
making avaliable the aircraft and logistics
for medical evacuation of the babies
alongside their parents and medical team
to and from Yola.
On arrival in Yenagoa, the Deputy
Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator
Lawrence Ewhrujakpo, donated the sum
of N1 million to the parents of the babies.

Ahmed Musa, Wife Welcome Their Second Child – Super Eagles player, Ahmed Musa and his second wife, Julie, have welcomed a bouncing baby boy together.

This will be Ahmed Musa’s fourth child, as the footballer already has two children from his first wife, Jemila and another child from his second wife, Julie.

Ahmed took to his Instagram page to announce the good news. He wrote: “Life is indeed a gift and Allah has decided to give us a gift that can’t be bought with money. He decided to bless my family this morning with a bouncing baby Boy?

The glycaemic index is a system for ranking carbohydrates on a 0 to 100 scale based on the immediate effects they have on blood sugar (glucose) level after eating.

Foods with high GI rank from 70 upwards, foods with intermediate GI rank between 55 to 69 while foods with low GI rank from 55 below.

High GI foods

When carbohydrate-food sources are broken down quickly by the body and result in a rapid increase in blood sugar, they have high glycaemic index rating. Foods with high GI include white bread, potatoes, juices, dates, corn flakes and sugary foods.

Intermediate GI foods

Foods with intermediate glycaemic index are broken down much more slowly and they cause a stepwise or gradual increase in blood sugar levels over time. They include brown bread, cheese pizza, instant oatmeal, popcorn, sweet corn, white rice, fresh pineapple and pulses.

Low GI foods

Foods with low glycaemic index work as in those with intermediate glycaemic index, they are however significantly interesting because they have been shown to help improve glucose and lipid levels in people with Type 1 and 2 diabetes. Foods with low GI do not promote fat storage, instead, they help in weight control by curbing excessive appetite and delaying hunger. These foods include; vegetables, fruits, oats, whole wheat bread, pasta, parboiled rice, barley, fat free/skimmed milk and yoghurt.

Note that, using the glycaemic index to determine healthy food combinations can be somewhat misleading. Not all low GI foods are healthy and definitely not all high GI foods are unhealthy. Therefore, eating a diet that only consists of low glycaemic index foods will lead to an unbalanced diet that is also considerably high in fat.

In conclusion, we are advised to consume low fat, sugar and salt and high starch (fruit and vegetables) for a healthy diet.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has included the number of recovered patients from the Lagos State home-based treatment of COVID-19 in its data, increasing the state’s COVID-19 pandemic recoveries to 13,106.

NCDC made this known on Tuesday in its COVID-19 Situation Report for Aug. 3.

It said that the recovery figure recorded for Lagos includes patients who were successfully treated and discharged from the state’s treatment centres, and those managed at their homes in various communities by the state.

According to NCDC, Abuja has overtaken Lagos with the highest number of active COVID-19 cases in the country.

The data by NCDC shows that Abuja has
2,767 active cases, while Lagos and Oyo States have 2,057 and 1,347 cases respectively.

The health agency added that Lagos accounted for 88 new COVID-19 infections out of the 288 cases reported from 15 states on Aug. 3.

“That brings the state’s total number of infections to 15,355,” NCDC said.

Also, data by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Africa Region, shows that there were 957,905 confirmed COVID-19 cases on the continent, with over 610,000 recoveries and 20,304 deaths.

Arotile: Classmate who “accidentally” killed Combat Pilot Has no Driver’s License – Fresh reports have emerged that the former classmate who hit Tolulope Arotile with a car has no driver’s license.

Nigeria has been thrown into a state of mourning after her first female Combat Pilot, Tolulope Arotile, died in a car accident on Tuesday July 14 at the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) base in Kaduna.

The 23–year-old Flying Officer died after she got knocked down by a car driven by her former classmate who was reversing the vehicle.

However, it has been revealed that the classmate has no valid driver’s license according to a report by Channels TV.

Military sources who spoke to Channels TV disclosed that the classmate in the company of his friends wanted to drop off his relatives at the base. He intended to drop off Arotile after seeing her on the road inside the base.

Unfortunately, he hit her while reversing his car.

The female pilot died from severe head injuries.

The military sources also disclosed that the classmate and other people have been taken into custody as they conduct an investigation into the untimely death of the late pilot.

The late pilot’s elder sister, Damilola Adegboye, Adegboruwa (SAN) and other concerned Nigerians have called on security operatives to probe the death of the deceased.

According to NAF, Arotile will be buried with full military honours on July 23.

A statement from NAF quoted her saying, “I joined the military simply out of passion for it. Being a military personnel has been a long time ambition; the carriage and what it stands for are simply exceptional,”

Nigerian Airforce reveals identity of Tolulope Arotile’s killer, hands case to police – The Nigerian Air Force has revealed the identity of the killer of the late Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile.

NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Ibikunle Daramola, made this known during a press conference on Sunday in Abuja.

The late Flying Officer was Nigeria’s first female combat pilot.

Daramola identified Arotile’s ex-classmate who drove the car that hit her as ‘Mr. Nehemiah Adejoh’.

He further noted that the matter will be handed over to the police.

“Mr Nehemiah Adejoh, Mr Igbekele Folorunsho and Mr Festus Gbayegun, drove past her in a Kia Sorento SUV, with Registration Number AZ 478 MKA. It is noteworthy that Mr Adejoh, Folorunsho and Gbayegun are all civilians who live outside NAF Base Kaduna, but were on their way to visit one Mrs Chioma Ugwu, wife of Squadron Leader Chukwuemeka Ugwu, who lives at Ekagbo Quarters on the Base.

“Upon recognising their schoolmate, Arotile, after passing her, Mr Adejoh, who was driving, reversed the vehicle, ostensibly in an attempt to quickly meet up with the deceased, who was walking in the opposite direction. In the process, the vehicle struck Flying Officer Arotile from the rear, knocking her down with significant force and causing her to hit her head on the pavement. The vehicle then ran over parts of her body as it veered off the road beyond the kerb and onto the pavement, causing her further injuries,” Daramola said.

A former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, had earlier rubbished the Air Force account of how Arotile died.

“The idea that she was killed after being knocked down on the Airforce Base by her best friends car is nonsensical.

“Who is this best friend and what is his/her name? I suspect that Tolu was murdered & the truth is being covered up. I urge the Chief of Air Staff to investigate this matter thoroughly,” Fani-Kayode had said.

You are the wrong choice Ondo people made – Ajayi replies Akeredolu – The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi on Sunday lashed out at his boss, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for tagging him a wrong choice of deputy.

Ajayi emphasized that the governor was trying to put his frustration on him following the failed attempt to use the state House of Assembly to impeach him as the deputy governor.

On Saturday, Akeredolu had expressed regret over the choice of Ajayi as his running mate in 2016, despite several warnings which he said he ignored.

The deputy governor who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Babatope Okeowo stated that after allegedly running the state aground, Akeredolu has been casting aspersions on him.

He disclosed that Akeredolu who caused himself many injuries cannot blame him for his shortcomings as he emphasized that the governor sidelined him from governance for three and half years.

Ajayi added that his political experience helped Akeredolu to win the 2016 election after he failed woefully in his first attempt in 2012 when he came a distant third at the polls.
