Recent research at Texas A&M University reveals a compound in mangos may help prevent a malignancy that is one of the top causes of cancer fatalities among women. Scientists testing the effects of polyphenols from the tropical fruit found they dramatically reduced the proliferation of breast cancer cells.Studies show the foods we eat can play a protective role against several kinds of cancers, lead author Dr. Susanne Talcott notes. In fact, it is estimated that approximately 30 percent of cancers could be prevented with a healthy diet and lifestyle, she adds.Talcott and her colleagues sought to build upon earlier research that showed polyphenolic compounds like the ones in mangos have potential for fighting cancer. These compounds have anti-inflammatory effects as well as antioxidant properties that can guard against the onset of chronic illnesses. Experimental data also reveals some bioactive compounds in mangos are antiviral and antibacterial in nature.Reduced the Proliferation of Breast Cancer Cells by 90%The authors evaluated the effects of the polyphenols of mangos on cancerous and noncancerous breast cells in test tubes. The promising findings showed mangoes reduced the proliferation of cancerous breast cells by 90 percent and the proliferation of noncancerous breast cells by 20 percent. Additionally, inflammation was reduced in both the cancerous and noncancerous cells. In a second study using mice, the mango polyphenols suppressed the growth of tumors of human breast cancer that had been transplanted into them. While the results were positive, Talcott cautioned that much more studies are needed in the area.Other Foods Contain PolyphenolsRene Ficek, lead dietitian for Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating, emphasizes to Live in the Now that the study is just one among many that show diet can help prevent several different types of cancers, including breast, prostate, and colon. “Although the findings uncovering the cancer-fighting effects of mangos are exciting, many other foods contain this special antioxidant compound as well. Fruit sources of polyphenols include apples, cherries, pomegranates, cantaloupes, cranberries, plums, pears, grapes and most berries. Vegetables sources include broccoli, onion, cabbage, celery, parsley and most legumes. Still other food sources involve honey, chocolate, bell pollen, olive oil and many grains. The beneficial compound is also in red wine along with black, white and green tea. It is important to consume a wide variety of these foods to ingest a range of polyphenols, vitamins, minerals and other healthful components,” she says.Mangos are Rich in NutritionFicek points out the value of mangos isn’t limited to their potential to fight cancer. “Aside from polyphenols, they are an excellent source of vitamin A and flavonoids like beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, and beta-cryptoxanthin,” she states. “The fruit is also a good source of potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, and vitamin E. Like most other plant foods, mangos are plentiful in nutrients.

[You no go kill person with laugh perfectwazobia1: AREGBESOLA FAYOSE.. |
How did you arrive at this conclusion I wann know perfectwazobia1: The victory of AYO FAYOSE is the begining of torment for APC. Why is that APC can not do but mention Fayose's name in almost everything. |
The All Progressives Congress, APC, Oyo State chapter, has warned Ekiti State governor-elect, Ayo Fayose, to steer clear the political terrain of the state as the people cannot be deceived by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.A statement by the Oyo state APC Chairman, Akin Oke, said Fayose’s comment that he would reclaim the South West for the PDP was the voice of a man who plays “pedestrian politics”.Urging him to devote his energy on Ekiti people, Oke said, “we have watched Fayose’s flippancy getting worse by the day since his alleged victory in Ekiti. We do not have any qualms with his riding on a roller coaster of this supposed victory and talking down on everybody while telling them that he is the newest thing to happen in South West politics.”"">“We only warn him that, that brand of murky politics which saw him grandstanding and riding roughshod over everybody will not work in Oyo State. We are a people who do not allow foreign Generals lord it over us.”The APC decried what it called Fayose’s sudden and uncontrolled attack on everyone, including Yoruba leaders, warning him to keep his mouth shut so that he does not court the wrath of the ancestors of the Yoruba people.“The ancestors of Yoruba people warn that a farmer who just had his barn running over with a bountiful harvest must be humble enough to be sober in plenty. Doom awaits such a farmer in the long run. This warning is what Fayose is not heeding as he is running his trap against everybody.”Oke warned that its party-led government was beyond reproach as it has acquitted itself in the eyes of the people in the dispensation of the dividends of democracy."">The chairman accused PDP of holding a rally with a rented crowd, wondering why the PDP could not muster enough people to fill a standard venue befitting the state chapter of the much-touted largest party in Africa in one of the most populous cities on the continent. He added that the people of Oyo know that in the APC government is an administration that has changed the dwindling fortune of the state from what the PDP, in eight years, lorded over it.“The violence, decay and shame that the PDP foisted on our people for eight years have been written off and our people are witnessing an infrastructural revolution that is unparalleled. Our people will compare our government with the PDP government and make their choice,” http://dailypost.ng/2014/07/11/apc-leadership-resolves-challenge-fayoses-victory-fayemi/ |
