Ex-International Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha has challenged his nephew Alex Iwobi to surpass his achievements with the senior national team.
Iwobi revealed that he received the challenge from his uncle following his national team debut against DR Congo.
The Arsenal youngster also reveal that Okocha has been a major influence in making him the player that he is today while also stating that it was a tough decision to dump England for Nigeria.
“I remember one time he was playing for Bolton and I was lucky enough to go and watch with my dad,” Iwobi recalls.
“Then we were just having a kick around and he came over, showed me something and then I’d be like, ‘How on earth did he do that?’! Then I would go away and spend the next few days trying to learn it.”

The Kogi state election Tribunal this morning upheld the election of Senator Dino Melaye, in a much-anticipated verdict given this morning in Lokoja.

His election had been challenged by the former holder of the seat, Smart Adeyemi, who belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party. The petition had been dismissed before on a technical ground that it was filed out of time.

But the Federal Appeal court ruled that the case should be heard anew.

Melaye, of the All Progressives Congress, broke the news of his triumph in a tweet this morning: “Praise God. Senator Dino Melaye’s election upheld and Senator Smart Adeyemi’s petition dismissed for lack of merit.

Nigeria business tycoon and President of Nigeria National League side Remo Stars Football Club, Kunle Soname has secured ownership of Portuguese second division side Clube Desportivo Feirense.

Soname becomes the first Nigerian to own a club in Nigeria and abroad after he secured 70 per cent of the club’s capital last Friday.

Clube Desportivo Feirense last played in the Portuguese top flight division football in 2011.

According to a statement on the club’s website “Last Friday we effected a transformation of our club through the sale of part of the capital to our new partners Tavisstock Global Resource Ltd, led by Kunle Soname. We wish all the stakeholders the best and believe it will be a lasting partnership that would bring great sporting success to Clube Desportivo Feirense.”

Speaking on the take over, Remo Stars FC Club President Kunle Soname expressed

delight with this great achievement, assuring that the takeover will impact positively on both clubs and Nigeria football in general.

“It’s a great thing to have achieved this, my sincere gratitude to God and everyone involved in the take over process. Securing Clube Desportivo Feirense was the next step in the right direction for me, I love everything about the club; the organisation, the philosophy and the fans I have no intention of changing anything in the club because I am satisfied with their operations. Rather I want to ensure the progress of the club through promotion to the Portuguese Primera division.

“Having been involved in Nigeria football for years by running Remo Stars Football Club, I felt it was time to further develop the team. It would also bring benefits for Nigerian football through players transfer, training for officials and administrators who have proven they have what it takes to succeed in Europe.

“I still have my commitment to the running of Remo Stars FC, it’s the beginning of all I have achieved in football and I will keep improving the team to get it to the greatest height,”he said.
