PoliticsAbubakar Shekau Is Sick Mentally-nigeria Army by dtnadeyemi1993(op): 9:48am On Sep 26, 2016
Fidelis Soriwei, Abuja

The factional leader of Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau,  has said he is still alive practising “Quranism and not “Sociologists” together with members of his sect.

Shekau said this in a new video which lasted for 38 minutes and 36 seconds released by the sect on Sunday.

The factional Boko Haram leader, who spoke in Kanuri, Arabic and Hausa languages, said his ‘brethren’ must be released, if he must “bring back the Chicok girls.” He was with two armed bodyguards in the video.

Shekau, in the video, mocked President Muhammadu Buhari, his Chadian counterpart, Idris Derby, whom he described as infidels.

He also faulted Buhari and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai’s declaration that the military had overrun the sect, saying the terrorists could never be defeated because they were fighting Prophet Mohammed’s cause.

An online medium, Sahara Reporters, which interpreted Shekau’s vituperations, said the Boko Haram leader warned the people of Kano and Kaduna to repent because they were in trouble for betraying the cause of Uthman Dan Fodio, the founder of the Sokoto Caliphate.

Shekau also mocked the BringBackOurGirls campaigners, saying, they should also bring back ‘our brethren,’ while he boasted that Buhari and Buratai were only bragging and dishing out false assumption about crushing the Boko Haram sect.

But the Nigerian Army has said that Shekau is insane.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in an electronic mail on Sunday that the video released by the sect on Sunday confirmed the suspicion that Shekau had become mentally sick.

Usman said the appearance of Shekau in the video in which he tried to deny the aerial attack on his hideout during which he was wounded only confirmed that he was close to his end.

The acting Army spokesman advised Nigerians to  discountenance the content of the video as the military was making sustained efforts to clear the remnants of the insurgents and rescue all captives including the Chibok girls.

“The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a video clip released by the so-called Abubakar Shekau faction of the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists group this morning.

“In it, the purported leader of the group, in his usual insane manner, made all sorts of assertions to the point of threatening various towns, groups and individuals.

“He also tried albeit failingly to deny the air raid by the Nigerian Air Force in which he was wounded.

“The video has shown beyond all reasonable doubt the earlier suspicion that the purported factional terrorists group leader is mentally sick and unstable. The ranting is also another sign that the end is near for him which is part of the signs of all wicked people.

“The Nigerian Army wishes to assure the public that they should not be bothered by the contents of the video clip. This is because the facts on the ground speak for themselves. It is public knowledge that the military has been making concerted efforts to clear the remnants of the terrorists and to rescue all persons held hostage by them especially the abducted Chibok secondary schoolgirls.”

He said the military was determined to ensure that Boko Haram was stopped no matter how long it would take.

He stressed that the Army had already released thousands of captives from the insurgent group.

He assured the residents of Maiduguri, Kano, Kaduna and Zaria of the readiness of the military to defend them and to deal with the Boko Haram’s threat.

Missus Rajayi: A secret that has been uncovered! Cancer is not a disease but business!!

Professor Nandita deSouza from Cambridge University:
The word called cancer is a lie...

You might not believe this but cancer is not a disease; it is a business.

Cancer has become widespread; it has affected the old, young, baby and everyone.

Sharing this wonderful post will expose many of the hidden hands of the world's manipulators and annoy them.

Do you know that the book "World Without Cancer" has up till now been prevented from being translated into many world languages?

Know this: there is no disease called cancer. Cancer consists of only a deficiency of vitamin B17. It is nothing else.

Avoid chemotherapy, surgery and or taking medicines with strong side effects.

You would recall that in the past, quite a large number of seamen lost their life to a named disease (scurvy); a disease that took the life of numerous people as well. And a number of people got an enormous income from it. Afterwards, it was discovered that scurvy was just a deficiency of vitamin C. That means it wasn't a disease (illness).

Cancer is also just like that! The colonizing world and the enemies of humanity established the cancer industry and made it into a business. from which they earn billions in income.

The cancer industry flourished after world war II. To fight cancer, all these delays, details and enormous expenditures are not needed. They only go to line the pockets of colonizers, especially since the cure for the condition was found long ago.

The prevention and cure of cancer will be obtained simply through the following strategies:

Those who have cancer should first try to know what cancer is. Do not panic! You should investigate the condition.

Nowadays does anyone die of an illness called scurvy? No. Because it gets cured.

Since cancer is only a deficiency of vitamin B17, eating 15 to 20 pieces of apricot stone/nucleus (fruit stone) everyday is enough.

Eat wheat bud (wheat sprouts). Wheat bud is a miraculous anti-cancer medicine. It is a rich source of liquid oxygen and the strongest anti-cancer matter named laetrile. This matter is present in the fruit stone of apple and is the extracted form of vitamin B17 (Amygdalin).

The American medicinal industry has started implementing the law forbidding laetrile production. This medicine is being manufactured in Mexico and gets smuggled into USA.

Dr. Harold W. Manner, in a book named "Death of Cancer" has stated that the success of cancer treatment with laetrile is as high as above 90%.

*Sources of Amygdalin* (Vitamin B17)

The foods containing vitamin B17 include the following:

-The fruit stone or grain(seed) of fruits. This contains the highest amount of vitamin B17 in nature. This includes fruit stone of apple, apricot, peach, pear, and prune (dried plum).

-Common beans, corns(grains), which include bean, lentil sprout (lentil bud) Lima (Lima beans) and pea.

-Kernels: Bitter Almond (Richest source of vitamin B-17 in nature) and Indian almond.

-Mulberries: almost all mulberries such as black mulberry, blueberry, raspberry and strawberry.

-Seeds (Grains): sesame and linseed (seed of linen/flax seed).

-Groats of oats, barley, brown rice, groats of block wheat, linseed, millet and rye.

This vitamin is found in grains and fruit stones of apricot, brewer's yeast, rough rice (paddy) and sweetmeat pumpkin.

*List of Anti-Cancer Foods*
•Apricots (kernels/seeds)
•seeds from other fruits like apples, cherries, peaches, prunes, plums, pears
•Lima beans
•Fava beans
•Wheatgrass
•Almonds
•Raspberries
•Elderberries
•Strawberries
•Blackberries
•Blueberries
•Buckwheat
•Sorghum
•Barley
•Millet
•Cashews
•Macadamia nuts
•Bean sprouts
All are the highest sources of absorbable vitamin B17.

Missus Rajayi: Ingesting dishwashing liquids (used in the kitchen) and hand washing liquid (used in the restroom) is the main cancer causing factor so your eating of them should be restricted.

You will surely say that we do not eat them!
However, you daily wash your hands with hand washing liquid and wash your plates with dishwashing liquid.

The liquid is absorbed and will not leave the plate with washing. When cooking or eating food, the soap in the plate or dish gets attached to the hot food and so we end up eating the dishwashing liquid with our food. Even if you rinse the plate hundreds of times, that will be of no use.

But the solution is to pour half of the dishwashing liquid and hand washing liquid and top it up with vinegar.
It is as simple as that.

Do not eat blood cancer causing agents and also save your family from this danger.

Similarly, seriously desist from washing vegetables with even a few drops of dishwashing liquid because irrespective of how much you would rinse them, the chemicals would have already entered the tissues of the vegetable and will not get rinsed away.

Instead, soak fruits and vegetables with salt and then rinse with water. And to keep them fresh, add vinegar.
PoliticsFalana Asks EFCC To Probe FG Over $4bn Recovered Abacha Loot by dtnadeyemi1993(op): 2:39am On Sep 25, 2016
A human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), has petitioned the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, asking him to probe the Federal Government over the $4bn recovered from the late maximum ruler, Gen. Sani Abacha.

Falana said in a letter on Saturday that the Federal Government had failed to account for the money which was recovered in tranches between 1998 and 2014.

The senior advocate said the Socio Economic Rights and Accountability Project had approached a Federal High Court to compel the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to account for the recovered funds but that despite getting the court order, the OAGF refused to provide the information.

Falana said, “From 1998 to 2014, the Federal Government successfully recovered over $4bn from the Abacha loot. However, based on the refusal of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to account for the recovered loot, SERAP applied to the Federal High Court for an order of mandamus

“Even though the court granted the order, the Federal Government has failed to account for the recovered loot. In the circumstances, we have submitted a petition to the EFCC to investigate the alleged criminal diversion of the recovered loot.”

PoliticsFemale Idps Turn To Prostitution To Survive –csos by dtnadeyemi1993(op): 6:13pm On Sep 21, 2016
Adelani Adepegba, Abuja

The Network of Civil Society Organisations in Borno State, has raised the alarm over the increasing rate of prostitution by female internally displaced persons in the state.

The Chairman of the CSOs, Ahmed Shehu, said  that displaced women and teenagers were engaging in prostitution in order to raise money to feed their families.

Shehu spoke at the presentation of the situational assessment of internally displaced persons in the North-East by a non-governmental organisation, NOI Polls, on Tuesday in Abuja.

He noted that 60 per cent of female IDPs had suffered rape and other forms of sexual harassment, adding that many homes in Maiduguri and environs were now headed by teenagers whose parents had either been killed, missing or in Boko Haram captivity.

The activist stated that the development could worsen the high incidences of sexually-transmitted diseases in the state.

Shehu said, “Many females were raped and killed while collecting firewood, particularly as they travelled farther from their communities. Many teenagers are heading their families now because their parents had been killed or captured by Boko Haram. The sad part of it is that many female internally displaced persons have gone into prostitution so that they can feed themselves.”

A Borno-based journalist, Mohammed Alfa, said the Federal Government should  invite the anti-graft agencies to Borno State, “if they were serious about fighting corruption.” He noted that foods meant for the IDPs were being diverted and sold by state government officials.

Alfa alleged that some people had threatened his life for publishing a report on the nefarious activities going in the camps, stressing that he was not frightened by the threat.

The NOI, in its assessment, noted the cases of sexual abuse and rise in social vices in the camps and called on the government to address it.

It also affirmed incidences of corruption and sharp practices with respect to the distribution of relief materials donated to the IDPs.

“Majority of IDPs (93 per cent) attested that they don’t get most of the relief materials such as food, clothes, medicines and so on, allocated to them by the government and donor agencies,” the report stated.
PoliticsEx-military Officers Express Readiness To Fight Insurgency by dtnadeyemi1993(op): 6:00pm On Sep 21, 2016
The Retired Army, Navy and Air force Officers Association of Nigeria has said their members are ready to assist the nation in tackling its insecurity challenges including fighting the war against insurgents in the North East.

The National President of RANAO, Lt. Col. Antony Ogbomo ( retd), said this while speaking with journalists after the zonal executive committee meeting of the association in Ede on Wednesday.

Ogbomo said the younger members of the association were ready to be called upon to assist the nation especially in some areas to lessen the burden of those in the active service.

He called on President Muhammadu Buhari, to revive the National Reserve Scheme which has a pool of ex-military men to be called upon to fight at any time their services were required.

He said, ” We are still useful and can still contribute to the development and well being of the nation. Our men can still be called back even to assist in tackling insurgency and they are ready.

“When I visited the Honourable Minister of Defence a few weeks back and one of the issues I discussed with him on behalf of the association is the fact that there is the need for the government to resuscitate the National Reserve Scheme and implement it.

“If it is implemented, majority of our officers can be called back to the service to take care of some of the activities that those in active service will rather not be involved in, for instance those in action at the North East.

“Those in the reserve scheme can be used to carter for the barracks, the logistics chain, so that they can take care of the combat zone.

CrimeMilitants Bomb NPDC Oil Facility In Delta by dtnadeyemi1993(op): 1:56am On Sep 20, 2016
Ovie Okpare, Warri

The Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate has attacked another major crude oil delivery line belonging to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company in Delta State.

The incident occurred on Sunday at about 11.30pm around Ekuigbo, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesman for the militant group, Aldo Agbalaja, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement issued on Monday.

It described as a waste of resources the use of military men to guard oil and gas facilities in the region, adding that such would never yield any positive result.

The statement read, “The Opudo Strike Force, at about 11:30pm on Sunday, September 18, 2016, struck the Afiesere-Ekiugbo delivery line in Ughelli, operated by NPDC/Shoreline. The Operation Crocodile Tears is not slowing down but determined to achieve target.”

While threatening further attacks, ‘Greenland Mandate’, as the militant group is fondly called, said not until the Federal Government takes proper steps to address the Niger Delta problems “this song will continue to play.”

It added, “This is to you, Gen. Buratai, let your crocodiles continue to smile. Your time of reckoning is at hand. Probably by the time the smiley crocodile finally sinks, you will see its tears and blood.

“Under your nose, the very task of guarding oil assets (which we consider a waste of time, resources and a failure of priorities) will fail because you are both insincere and incompetent. The Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate is just starting; you are yet to see what we are. By the time the alpha operations are initiated, you will need more than these fighter jets to keep your troops safe in any part of the Niger Delta.

“To the oil and gas companies:  we have observed that you have placed your trust in the guns and fighter jets of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Our words for you are few: keep at it and wait for your rewards, which have almost come upon you.

“It is a reflection of your minds towards our people; you obviously believe that the people of this part are undeserving of good lives. You hide behind the guns of the oppressors to pillage our lands and our people, leaving us despoiled and our lands raped. You do all manners of things you dare not imagine in other parts of the world where you operate.”

However, the attack has not been independently verified by our correspondent as of the time of filing this report.

CrimePolice Arrest 50-year-old Man For Raping Girl, 13 by dtnadeyemi1993(op): 8:21am On Sep 19, 2016
Samuel Awoyinfa, Abeokuta

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, Joseph Sunday, for allegedly raping a 13-year-old-girl in Ilaro, Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect allegedly ambushed the victim while she was on her way to fetch water and dragged her to an uncompleted building in the Abule Taju area of the town, where he raped her.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect was arrested following a complaint from the mother of the victim.

He said, “The policemen at the station where the case was reported immediately arrested the man. On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.”

Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said  the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.

He said the Commissioner of Police also appealed to parents to always be watchful of their children in order to prevent them from becoming victims of people with devilish intentions.

CrimeMan Kills Childhood Friend After Gambling With Phone by dtnadeyemi1993(op): 8:11am On Sep 19, 2016
Samson Folarin

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Ogadima Nkwaha, for allegedly slitting the throat of his friend, John Effiong, in the Olodi Apapa area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect killed the victim after he refused to release his (Effiong) phone to him.

It was gathered that Nkwaha had won more than N60,000 from the victim while they gambled.

Effiong, who wanted to recoup his losses, reportedly wagered his handset.

He, however, lost again to Nkwaha.

Our correspondent was told that trouble started when the deceased refused to part with the phone, which started an argument between the two men.

In the ensuing brawl, the suspect allegedly slit Effiong’s throat with a broken bottle.

He was rushed to a private hospital where he eventually died.

When our correspondent visited the scene of the incident on Kumuyi Street on Tuesday, an elderly man in the house threatened to injure our correspondent and subsequently chased him out of the house.

PUNCH Metro gathered from some neighbours that it was the second time that such an incident would happen in the house.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the recent case happened around 5pm on Sunday.

He said, “The two guys were childhood friends and they rarely fight. But their undoing was their love for gambling.

“They had gambled that day with money and Effiong lost more than N60,000 to Nkwaha. He thought he could still have a chance, so he decided to bet with his handset. However, his friend won again.

“He refused to release the phone to him and that was how they started arguing. Nkwaha said he must release the phone since he lost the bet, but Effiong refused.

“Nkwaha went inside the room and broke a bottle. Effiong pushed him and he stabbed him in the throat with the broken bottle.”

Another resident, Jide Alawiye, said the men continued with their fight without realising the extent of Effiong’s injury.

He explained that the community became alarmed when the victim slumped.

“He was taken to a private hospital where he died around 11pm. The case was reported at the Tolu Police Division and the suspect was arrested,” Alawiye added.

Another resident, Babatunde Obasola, said there had been tension in the area over the fear that some relatives of the deceased would attack youths on Kumuyi Street.

“That house has been giving a lot of headache to people on this street and the reason is that it is owned by an elderly man who does not have any control over his tenants. Some hoodlums live in that house.

“We have reported their activities to the police at Ajeromi and Tolu divisions, and even Area B command. This is the second time that this kind of thing would be happening,” he said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that Effiong’s corpse had been deposited in a morgue for autopsy.

She said, “We have a case involving one Ogadima Nkwaha, who allegedly stabbed one Effiong on the neck with a broken bottle during a fight between them.

“The victim’s corpse has been deposited in a morgue for autopsy, while the suspect is in custody.”

CrimeMan Brutalises Wife’s Niece For Using Air Conditioner by dtnadeyemi1993(op): 7:50am On Sep 19, 2016
A 27-year-old beautician, Latifat Adeyemi, has been battered by her aunt’s husband, Rasak Alabi, aka Alfa, for allegedly turning on an air conditioner in their house in Solebo, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

Alabi reportedly claimed that the gadget consumed excessive power, and allegedly hit the victim with a spanner in the face and flogged her with a piece of cable, which led to her admission in a private hospital.

We were told that for the past 10 years, Latifat and her grandma had been living in a bungalow at the back of the house on Ile Eye Street, which was reportedly built by Alabi’s wife.

It was learnt that Alabi, who had separated from his wife for the past 20 years, moved into the building in 2015 after reconciling with his wife, a nurse, who is based in the United States of America.

Our correspondent was told that since Alabi moved into the house, there had been misunderstandings, which had led to the eviction of some relatives in the house.

Latifat said she was staying in the house because she had to cater to her grandma.

She said, “My aunt is a nurse and she is based in the US. She put her mother in the house and asked me to cater to her. Grandma and I had been living in that house for over 10 years.

“Alfa (Alabi) and my aunt separated over 20 years ago. They never had a child together. But last year, they reconciled and the family said we needed a man in the house; so he moved into the house. He evicted our last born, but I stayed behind because of grandma.

“Last week Friday, when I returned from Surulere around 7pm, I saw that he had broken into my apartment and removed the AC there. He said the AC consumed too much power.

“I made a call to my uncle and I told him that I would be packing out of the house because I was fed up. As I turned around, he hit me in the eye severally with a spanner and as I ran off, he picked a cable piece and flogged me.”

She said she went to the Ipakodo Police Station to report the incident, adding that operatives who followed her to the house met the gate locked.

Latifat said the police turned back when they could not gain entrance.

Her half-sister, Rasheedat, said there had been disagreement between Alabi and Rashidat in the past, adding that the AC was only an excuse for the suspect to chase her out of the house.

“This is the only girl left in that house because of grandma. He had been finding excuses to send her away,” she explained.

Raheedat said shortly after the incident, Alabi reported to a vigilance group, Onyabo, that his car had been vandalised by Latifat’s siblings.

He was also alleged to have later gone to the Igbogbo Police Station to make other accusations.

Raheedat said the police called for a peace meeting between the parties, but the suspect rejected the move and ejected the grandma from the house.

“The old woman, who had left her husband’s house for the past 30 years, had returned to the same place again,” she added.

Alabi’s phone rang out many times when our correspondent called him.

He had yet to respond to a text message sent to his phone on Saturday.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect had been declared wanted by the police.

“The suspect is evading arrest, but we will get him,” she added.
HealthThe Joshua Of Our Time In Nsn Watch.. by dtnadeyemi1993(op): 6:26am On Sep 18, 2016
VOTE DR BRAI FOR NSN PRESIDENT

Tested! Trusted!! True!!!

Positions so far held in NSN

1. National Publicity Secretary (2005 – 2006)

2. National General Secretary (2007 – 2008; 2009 – 2010)

3. Secretary, Local Organizing Committee, 2nd Federation of African Nutrition Societies (FANUS) Congress 2011

4. Ex-Officio member of council (2011 – 2012; 2013 – 2014)

5. Vice President (South) (2015 till date)

6. Chairman, Scientific & Technical Committee (2009 – till date).

7. Fundraising Committee (2013 till date)

PLAN OF ACTION

If elected President, the following are the immediate plans I intend to execute with the support and co-operation of Council and members of NSN:

Firstly, it is my intention to carry on with the good and valuable programmes/activities of the out-going Council and pursue the pending ones to logical conclusions thereby ensuring continuity.

Membership

NSN has grown tremendously in the past one decade and the membership strength soared with increase in the number of institutions offering Nutrition or Nutrition & Dietetics as the case may be.

However, the actual number of registered members and the spread across various institutions/establishments is not known. This does not speak well of a professional body as ours.

If elected President, it is my intention to carry out a comprehensive review of NSN membership with a view to determining and documenting the number of registered and financial members of the Society. This is important for proper planning and implementation of our programmes and activities.

Career progression for Nutritionists in Public Service

The issue of career progression for our colleagues in public service has been addressed by the past two administrations with considerable progress made. However, the issue is yet to be fully resolved.

The Council I hope to lead will attach topmost priority to resolving this issue so that our members can rise to the peak of their career like their counterparts in other professions. To achieve this, I plan to involve our members in relevant positions and trade unions who can bring in their wealth of experience and influence to ensure that a positive result is achieved within the shortest possible time.

National Council on Nutrition

The need for a National Council on Nutrition was initiated by Prof. Tola Atinmo as far back as 2002. The Council when established will coordinate nutrition activities and the practice of nutrition in the country.

Through his efforts and the various contributions of other elders of the Society, an approval was obtained for the establishment of the Council during the regime of President Olusegun Obasanjo. However, this council is yet to be inaugurated. The laudable efforts and contributions of these elders must not be in vain. The NSN Council under my leadership will work closely with these noble elders and relevant ministries to ensure that the National Council on Nutrition is inaugurated and functioning.

Celebration of Nutrition Week

We are all aware of the appalling nutrition indices that are being quoted for Nigeria. In order to address this ugly picture, the present NSN Council proposed the celebration of a Nutrition Week to provide a forum for advocacy on nutrition and to create awareness amongst the general populace on the importance and benefits of nutrition. The first Nutrition Week will soon be celebrated at the national level and I intend to expand the scope of the celebration by ensuring that the State Chapters of NSN carry out this activity in the coming years. This will provide an opportunity for our people in the rural areas to be educated on proper and adequate nutrition and the attendant benefits.

Finances

The major source of income for the running of the Secretariat of NSN and carrying out other activities is the annual dues paid by members. The collection of these dues has not been efficiently carried out for some time now. It is on record that many of our members fail to pay their annual dues for as many as 3 – 5 years at a stretch for one reason or the other.

If elected, I hope to work with the Financial Secretary to design a robust and more effective method for payment of annual dues so that members do not have to wait for our annual conferences before paying their dues.

Nigerian Journal of Nutritional Sciences

The Nigerian Journal of Nutritional Sciences (NJNS) is the official scientific publication of NSN and its overall success cannot be compromised. It is worthy of note that the journal has experienced a great transformation both in terms of quality and outlook in the past four years.

I plan to provide necessary support for the next Editor-In-Chief to sustain the current standard while seeking ways to further improve on the quality of the scientific content of NJNS. In addition, efforts will be made to improve on the visibility, acceptability and accessibility of the journal.

Revitalization of State Chapters and Formation

It is my candid opinion that well organized and functional NSN State Chapters are needed to build a bigger and stronger Society at the national level. It is my aspiration to revitalize the existing State Chapters and ensure that they function well while encouraging the formation of new chapters. State Chapters will be motivated to hold regular meetings and organize programmes for the development of nutritionists in their respective states.

Efforts will be made to establish regular and effective communication between the Leadership of the State Chapters and the NSN Executive Council.

Bridging the knowledge gap between the classroom and the field

It is on record that the Nutrition and Dietetics departments in the various institutions of higher learning have sound academic programmes. However, it is now known that many of our graduates find it rather difficult to secure nutrition jobs in international NGOs and development organizations because there exists a knowledge gap between what is taught in the classrooms and the practice of nutrition in the field/community.

The Council under my leadership will partner with relevant stakeholders to organize workshops to train nutritionists on the practice of nutrition in the community coupled with other emerging nutrition issues. This will provide an opportunity for continuous professional education and development of our members.

NSN Annual Conferences

The annual scientific conference of NSN is the most important gathering of the society that we have every year. This is so because it offers Nutritionists and allied professionals the opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences as practitioners, disseminate research findings, interact and learn from one another.

I plan to further improve on the general organization and scientific content of the annual conferences with the aim of boosting interactions and effective knowledge and experience sharing.

Mentorship

There is an urgent need to guide the young nutritionists in their career. I plan to encourage mentoring of these young nutritionists by the older and more experienced nutritionists.

Thank you and God bless.

HealthWhy You Need To Consider Spinach..dietitian Says.. by dtnadeyemi1993(op): 8:25pm On Jul 06, 2016
A dietitian, fasuyi adeyemi, a student of rufus giwa polytechnic owo, ondo state on wednesday speaking in lagos about why people need to consider spinach in there diet..

Spinach and your health

Lutein and zeaxanthin: These compounds are carotenoids, which are fat-soluble, naturally occurring pigments in plants. Lutein and zeaxanthin are linked to the health of the eyes, lungs, skin, breasts, heart, and immune system, meaning the more foods with carotenoids that you can consume, the better. You can obtain the daily-recommended amounts of these two important carotenoids in 1 cup (C) of spinach.

Vitamin A: A 1-C serving of spinach contains 105% of the Daily Recommended Intakes (DRI) for vitamin A. Vitamin A plays a role in eye health, the immune system, and cell growth.

Vitamin K: Spinach is the second-highest vitamin K-containing food, second only to kale. Vitamin K is essential in blood clotting and bone health. Note: If you are taking a blood thinner such as Coumadin ® (warfarin sodium), it is necessary to monitor your vitamin K intake.

Manganese: This mineral is linked to bone production, and lack of this mineral is linked to osteoporosis. Fortunately, 1 C of cooked spinach provides more than three-fourths of your daily needs of manganese.

Folate: Leafy greens, such as spinach, are one of the best sources for folate. Although this vitamin is particularly important for pregnant women or women who are considering becoming pregnant, everyone needs some folate because of its role in red blood cell production and proper maintenance of the nervous system.

Other vitamins and minerals: Spinach is a nutritional land mine and also is a good source of magnesium, copper, B vitamins, vitamin E, calcium, potassium, and iron.

Nutritional content

Raw: A 1-C portion of raw spinach contains less than 10 calories, 1 gram (g) of carbohydrates, 1 g of fiber, and 1 g of protein.

Cooked: A 1-C portion of cooked spinach contains approximately 40 calories, 7 g of carbohydrates, 4 g of fiber, and 5 g of protein.
Getting the most nutrients from spinach: It is important to note that cooking, pureeing, and blending are all shown to increase nutrient bioavailability when compared to raw spinach. Heating and blending both work to liberate nutrients such as calcium, iron, and carotenoids from their chemical bindings. This in turn increases the nutrient bioavailability and enhances the body’s ability to utilize these compounds. On the other hand, freezing spinach decreases the nutritional benefit...

HealthSomething You Need To Know About Diabetes Mellitus by dtnadeyemi1993(op): 12:49am On Jul 05, 2016
Diabetes mellitus is a condition in which the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood is too high because the body cannot use it properly due to insulin.

What goes wrong in diabetes?

When you have diabetes, the finely tune system that regulates blood glucose fails because you don’t produce insulin (hormone that helps to control glucose in the body), or you don’t produce enough of it or your body is resistant to insulin. As a result, glucose cannot pass into your cells to be burned for energy, so it builds up in the blood. This leads to an abnormally high blood glucose level.

How does the healthy Body use glucose?

When you eat carbohydrate foods such as bread, rice, potatoes, cereals or sugar, they are broken down into glucose during digestion. Glucose moves from the intestines into the bloodstream and then enters the body cells where it is burned as fuel- it gives energy to your entire body, from the muscles to the brain, and is the body’s primary source of energy. Glucose is also stored in the liver and muscles in the form of glycogen

What are the types of diabetes?

Type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetes develops if the body is unable to produce any insulin. This type of diabetes usually appears before the age of 40. It is treated by insulin injections and diet, and regular exercise is recommended.

Type 2 (non insulin dependent) diabetes develops when the body can still make some insulin, but not enough, or when the insulin that is produced does not work properly (known as insulin resistance). This type of diabetes usually appears in people over the age of 40, though often appears before the age of 40 in many people due to diet and lifestyle. It is treated by diet and exercise alone or by diet, exercise and tablets or by diet, exercise and insulin injections.

Gestational diabetes:

This type of diabetes may develop around the 28th week (six month) of pregnancy and is the only temporary form of diabetes. It disappears after delivery of the baby. However, people that have this type of diabetes are at risk of diabetes in the future.

Factor affecting diabetes?

Diabetes has no single cause, but may be caused by a combination of any of the following inherited and environmental factors:

Genetic heredity

Overweight and obesity

Body shape

Ethnic background

Pregnancy medications Viral infections

Damage to the pancreas

How do you recognize if you have diabetes?

It is more common to notice the symptoms of a high blood glucose level if you have type 1 diabetes, as the absence of insulin has a dramatic effect on your body. If you have type 2 diabetes, you still produce some insulin, so your symptoms may be less severe- you may even attribute them to growing older. For example, you may feel it’s normal to feel tired, or to get up at night to pass urine.

Occasionally with type 2, there are no symptoms at all and diabetes may not be suspected until you have a routine medical or eye test that reveals early signs of long –term complications.

The following are all symptoms of diabetes:

1. Passing Large Amounts Of Urine Frequently

2. Dry Mouth, Excessive Thirst

3. Lack Of Energy/Tiredness

4. Unintentional Weight Loss

5. Blurred Vision

6. Fruity Smelling Breath

7. Thrush And Cystitis.........
