There’s nothing in those cities you mentioned that’s not in Chicago. The old buildings are still functioning well. Should they be broken down. Is Lekki better than GRA because the buildings are newer. Beijing and Tokyo compare to New York not Chicago. People from Beijing struggle to live in Chicago. |

Oluwabash: A Word of Caution to the Nigerian Public: Don’t Fall for the Traore Fake Hype
By Dahiru Bashir Hassan
All over social media, anonymous accounts are busy hyping Burkina Faso’s military leader, Ibrahim Traore.
Bogus claims of how he has transformed his country are scattered across platforms, and many gullible Nigerians are buying into the hype without asking the real questions.
One such post, made by a Twitter (X) account describing itself as “African Hub,” claimed that the coup leader had improved the country’s transport system and introduced a new rail line. But a quick check revealed that the photo accompanying the post was actually of the Abuja Mass Transit Rail. Unsurprisingly, almost all the images used to support these claims of Traore’s so-called developmental strides are stolen from other countries—mostly Nigeria.
A more pressing question that believers in this propaganda never seem to ask is this: Why is no one from Burkina Faso talking about these supposed achievements? Why are there no videos or testimonies of actual Burkinabè citizens sharing their experiences?
I’ll give you two simple reasons why you won’t hear a Burkinabè praising Ibrahim Traore or his so-called accomplishments:
First, and most importantly, these “successes” simply do not exist.
Second, Traore has banned social media in his country. No citizen can use it to criticise or evaluate his government—only a cluster of anonymous, phony accounts are allowed to push narratives that promote military dictatorship, glorify state-sponsored repression, and sell a dangerous fantasy: that a country which rejects international cooperation, isolates itself, and dismantles democratic institutions can somehow prosper.
That is a lie.
Do not let anyone deceive you into believing that things are improving in Burkina Faso. These falsehoods are attempts to glamorise authoritarianism disguised as nationalism. Until you see the face of an actual Burkinabè proudly speaking about their country, do not fall for the illusion that Ibrahim Traore’s online sponsors are peddling. Finally some sense on this matter. What concerns me most is the gullibility of Africans. Nobody seems to know how to verify. |

michlins: I don't even understand how you folks think about Nigeria fortunes. This is a very poor country by all standards. A state that doesn't generate a billion yet you hear citizens claiming that the governor stole billions of dollars. Even if he stole everything the state made in a year,it wouldn't be up to $2bn. How many states have a budget of $2bn except Lagos, Abuja and maybe Kano. So let's say the government steals 100% of everything all to himself,he won't accumulate billions of dollars.
If you want to understand what corruption looks like, check the grant America gave Ukraine for war. Over $300bn is not accounted for You were making sense till the last paragraph, where you sound like the same people you accused above. First off the talk of corruption is all political barbing not proven fact, and the total aid is not even up to 300 billion dollars. |

Something obvious is that Peter Obi actually won the Election.
Anyway, it's good that they can't do without calling his name. Truly Peter Obi is their god. If Peter Obi truly won the last election, he won’t be running this time because nothing has changed. In fact, matters have gotten worse because Tinubu is now the incumbent, which begs the question and makes one wonder about Obi’s lies and true character. |

They haggled back and forth and later still cancelled some of their debts. Not all. Per practice, you missed the following in the article, all countering your claim of forgiving china, who, without starting any project in Ogun state is seizing planes: But more recently, Bvumbe said there has not been any debt cancellation from China. “I checked with the embassy when it was reported,” he said. “They didn’t say anything about debt cancellation.” China is always reluctant to accept a cut in debt it is owed, but is amenable to suspensions of interest and principal repayments,” Robertson said. It is a sentiment echoed by sub-Saharan geoeconomic analyst Aly-Khan Satchu. “China will surely be supportive but is not in the business of haircuts and cancellations,” Satchu said. |

I repeat, provide something that could be substantiated .
I'm sure you're older than 21 .
For 21 years, what can you point to as a direct benefit from America? Money provided to support health infrastructure is serious substance, but you’d have to be informed to understand this so I catch your drift. When you’re sick and go to a federal hospital with even less than there is now you’d understand your substance in pain. |

Asonaijaaso: China does forgive Debt. Hey it’s 2025, information is everywhere, dont debate something you dont have the facts on. “ which the IMF rarely does.” are you a liar since the IMF forgives more loans than China with published amounts? You have not responded to multiple questions I’ve raised, instead you try to find gotchas. Back to your original assertion on investments, is China and America investing in each others nations because of friendship or returns? China invest more in single American states than Africa. Nobody wants to invest in unstable regions but to get resources. Without the West, all African nations will be like Congo right now. |

Asonaijaaso: China does forgive Debt. Hey its 2025, information is everywhere, dont debate something you dont have the facts on. I see your intent is to pick and choose what you respond to but are you able to answer why the amount is unspecified? Could it be a few millions? Or could it be in exchange for access to Zimbabwe’s lithium which it now controls? As for the IMF, there’s a program dedicated to debt relief(see below link). Even Nigeria has benefited from debt cancellations and grants. Now check what happened when the discussion was on to forgive African debts after Covid — only China refused cancellation, insisting on extension. Now answer me, why should Africa not pay its debt? Does that show responsibility? Or an inability to stick to contracts like individuals in its society? You say western aid does not reach the grassroots — please speak to northern Nigeria rural health workers who had their checks stopped until the federal government released billions in emergency funds to replace. Without the IMF and World Bank borrowing Nigeria cash(which China almost never does), under Buhari, Nigeria would have never been able to pay government salaries without a massive surge in money printing. Again, for every Chinese debt forgiveness you(not the fake Zimbabwe kind to gain access to vital resources), I’ll find you 10 western ones. https://www.imf.org/en/About/Factsheets/Sheets/2023/Debt-relief-under-the-heavily-indebted-poor-countries-initiative-HIPC |

Asonaijaaso: You’re half-right—but only halfway educated on the subject. Yes, China isn’t giving out aid for hugs and friendship, and yes, the West isn’t obligated to burn money. But here’s where your logic collapses: you conflate trade, aid, and diplomacy like they’re the same currency. They’re not.
Let’s break this down: • China’s annual aid to Africa is around $3–5 billion (not counting infrastructure loans and commercial investments, which are way larger). But they also forgive debts, build hospitals, and cancel interest, which the IMF rarely does. • The U.S. gives more humanitarian aid, but much of it is tied to conditions, funneled through U.S.-based NGOs, and rarely reaches the intended grassroots. It’s charity with strings, not partnership. • When you say “China invests more in America than Africa”—congrats, you just described capitalism. But don’t confuse where money goes with why it goes there. Africa is a frontier market, not yet saturated. China sees long-term resource security, soft power, and influence, not just ROI. • As for “culture of lies”—it’s rich to say that from a global stage where Wall Street sold fake bonds, Big Pharma suppressed data, and politicians lied nations into war. Every region has its demons; Africa is not uniquely dishonest—it’s uniquely scapegoated. • The West didn’t just throw money away. It used that aid to install allies, influence politics, control trade flows, and protect corporate interests. That’s not generosity—it’s geopolitical chess. First of, China never forgives debt — they only extend payment period. Please check. If you think China’s loans don’t go to friends only then you are new to geopolitics. China will cancel your loans if you open a Taiwan office. You talk about culture of lies on Wall Street and Big Pharma, then you misunderstand greatly what I intend: the entire Africa is filled with liars not just greedy groups. Africans don’t understand the concept of contracts. For example, no African I know pays their debt on time or honors contracts. No African I know tries to understand the position of the law before wading into matters. The churches, mosques, federal government, police, judges, animists — all filled with liars. No one investigates to find the truth. Now back to wall street and big pharma — if you think those 2 are bad, try the CCP when it comes to bad loans and suppressing information. Those who protested with white paper during Covid went missing. Those who criticize the Chinese government in private chat groups get arrested. Again, the funds China struggles hard to invest in America, is it for friendship or for returns? African pockets are being picked again right in front of our faces, but as liars, we are focused on the last picker. Is it white men that are in our bushes stealing resources? Talking of influence, your loan will get cancelled if you vote again China in the UN. |

Of what use is the billions spent on wars by your so called west. Has the world achieve peace.
Hmmm! To advance its security interest. The funds spent on war goes to western companies mostly, to pay western salaries and contractors. Are you suggesting they instead hand it to your politicians? Western peace is the West’s responsibility not world peace. |

Politics › Re: Senate Announces China Development Bank As New Financier Of Kano-Kaduna Rail by Dtribeless: 5:53am On Mar 16, 2025 |
Asonaijaaso: It’s striking how narratives are shaped by perception, not by actions. While China is building roads and universities, and Saudi Arabia is extending investment lifelines across the continent, the U.S. is busy cutting health aid, branding nations as “security risks,” and tightening visa policies. Yet some still cling to the myth that the West is Africa’s greatest ally. True friendship shows in investment, respect, and mutual progress—not in sanctions, suspicion, or charity laced with conditions. The world is shifting, and Africa sees clearly now who builds bridges—and who builds barriers. How much aid does China give to the continent? Have you checked that? With all the anti-west narrative on the continent, should the West keep throwing money down the drain? China is investing to make a return not to show any sort of friendship. China invests more in America than the entire Africa…is that for friendship? America does the same in China, is that also friendship? Africa better wise up and understand there are no friends anywhere. It needs to fix its culture of lies to progress. |
