PoliticsI’m Not Corrupt, Buhari Declares by dunsinakin01(op): 10:53am On Jan 31, 2019
I’m not corrupt, Buhari declares

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday boasted that he was not corrupt because in all the positions he has held in the country, he has never been convicted for corruption.

This is as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential candidate of working seriously for the interest of the western world. Buhari, Sultan, Ajimobi extol UI’s achievements at 70 President Buhari made the boast while addressing members of his ruling APC, as well as his supporters at the Presidential campaign rally in Abakaliki township stadium, Ebonyi State.

Recall that Buhari was former Head of State in 1983-85, Governor of the Northeastern State 1975–1976, and chairman Petroleum Trust Fund between 1994-95. According to him, “I can assure you that I, as the President today have never been in a position of abusing trust. As a governor of the whole six north eastern states, as minister of petroleum for over three years and as a former head of state.

I was arrested, detained, investigated but they never found anything against me.“ The President thanked Ebonyi people for turning out in large numbers for the rally, saying that they demonstrated that they cannot be bought. He urged them to hold him by his words. Buhari recalled that when he came for campaign in 2015, he promised three things, first, to tackle the security situation in the country, stressing that at a time 17 local governments in the north east were under the control of Boko Haram.

He enthused that as at today, there was no local government under the control of the terrorists. He said, “The important thing is that, please try and hold us by our promise. When we came here the last time, we told you there are three fundamental things the country is facing. “First, we have to secure the country because part of the country is under threat in the north east, at least 17 local governments were in the hands of Boko Haram. Secondly, the economy.

The able bodied unemployed persons in Nigeria are too many. Thirdly, to fight corruption.” The President congratulated the military and other law enforcement agencies, noting that today none of the local government in the north east was under the control of Boko Haram.

He said, “They have resulted in indoctrinating young men and abducting young girls below the ages of 15, wrap them with explosives and send them to soft targets- churches, mosques, market places and motor parks. Even that is becoming rear now.”

Buhari also said that with favourable weather, Nigeria has achieved food security and no longer imports rice, adding that the money saved from importations was being used for infrastructural development. He added that the monies were now being channeled to building of roads, rails among other infrastructural development. He said, “We thank God that Nigeria prayed very hard and the three previous rainy season were good. The government realized it and asked the Central Bank and the Ministry of Agriculture to give soft loans and make fertilizer available to farmers at half the price it used to be.

“And every able bodied persons who does not feel too big to earn a living went back to the farm and nobody regretted it. “We have now virtually achieved food security, we no longer import rice as we used to and the money we have saved are for infrastructure. We are doing the roads, the rails and we are doing the new standard gauge and we are improving power.”

“The last thing is about fighting corruption and bribery. Fighting corruption is a very difficult process but we are doing our best by trying to reorganize the Nigerian police or and the judiciary itself. “Because, we appointed people that went into public office without their own houses, without even maybe good cars but within three years they build houses in Abuja, open accounts in Europe or America and we cannot touch them. “But when we discover what they have we take them to court and when we take them to court we hope they will be prosecuted and then we will punish them.

“I can assure you that I, as the President today has never been in a position of abusing trust. As a governor of the whole six north eastern states, as minister of petroleum for over three years and as a former head of state. “I was arrested, detained, investigated but they never found anything against me. So I went through all the rigmarole that is against our development as a nation. God has given us people, he has given us resources. President Buhari solicited the votes of the Ebonyi people to enable him continue with the work his administration has started.

He said, “What this administration is doing and what it will continue to do, if you vote me back is to make sure we realize the potential of our people and the resources God has given us to make life better for this country, for our future generations.” Also speaking, National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who received 25 leaders from other parties, who have resolved to work for the APC, accused the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar of working for foreign interest.

He argued that the letters by the former Vice President to United Kingdom (UK), Unites States (US) and European Union (EU), were appealing to western sentiments angling to take over Nigeria’s economy. He said, “The right to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty is not negotiable.” Oshiomhole maintained that Atiku deferring to western interest will only injure Nigeria economy and pauperised the people, calling on the voters never to vote for Atiku.

He described the forth coming elections as a class war between the elites and the poor, just as he insisted that Buhari’s policies including TraderMoni were pro-poor despite the complains of the likes of former president, Olusegun Obasanjo. Don’t allow PDP sabotage democracy, Presidency warns Oshiomhole said no external force can impose leaders on Nigeria.

The Ebonyi APC party boss said, the civil servants in the state have been short changed by the PDP administration and that the governor paid only what he felt like paying at the end of every month. He alleged that Umahi met 5,200 workforce when he resumed in 2015, which has been depleted to 3,200 in 2019 with the governor not employing anyone to replace the dead and the retired.

He also alleged that the governor has refused to appoint permanent secretaries who are supposed to be accounting officers or ministries. He requested the president to order the audit of the state so as exposed alleged corruption in the management of the state resources by Umahi. He assured the president that APC has grown in Ebonyi exponentially to be able to deliver at least 25 percent to ensure Buhari’s victory in the presidential election.

The Ebonyi State APC governorship candidate Senator Sonni Ogbuoji, assured that Ebonyi will deliver a total vote for APC. He said, “We are resolved to lead the state to prosperity and advancement. It has been in the wrong hands since 2015 “Our state has dined with maladministration since 2015?and will die except we rescue it now.”

FG To Dualize Akure-ondo Road - Vice President Osinbajo

The Federal Government is set to dualise Akure-Ondo-Ore highway to boost economic activities of Ondo state.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo disclosed this at the palace of Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo as part of activities for his two days official visit to the state.

According to Osinbajo, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari will also ensure that the proposed upgrading of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo to a federal University become a reality soon.

Professor Osinbajo pointed out that he would personally do everything possible to make the college a university of education since the national assembly had passed the enabling act.

According to the Vice President, the college established as the first College of education in Nigeria over 50 years ago is long overdue to be upgraded.

Osinbajo said that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration had spent a total of N2.7 trillion on infrastructural development since assumption of office, stressing that the Federal Government was committed to ensuring that money belonging to Nigerians are not stolen but used for nation building.

The Vice President further hinted that the country was earning 60 per cent less than what it was earning in the past 16 years, adding that despite this low earning, the current administration had spent fund that could be the highest ever on infrastructure such as roads and railway modern in the country.

The Vice President said, “Today, N2.7trillion is what we are spending on infrastructural development. The question we ought to ask the opposition people who were in office for 16years is, What did they do with the money if today we are still reconstructing Lagos-Ibadan expressway. We are building Lagos -Ibadan rail project which will be commissioned in few days time”.

“If we get your mandate again by God’s grace, we will continue to work against corruption that is affecting our country, we will build more infrastructure”.

Nairaland GeneralRe: ODIEC ‘ll Conduct LG Polls Soon – Prof Dinakin by dunsinakin01: 4:19pm On Jan 30, 2019
good for them
walex011:
The chairman, Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC, Prof Yomi Dinakin, said the commission would soon conduct elections into Local Government Chairmanship and Councillorship positions in the 18 councils.

He disclosed this while speaking with journalists shortly after defending the commission’s budget for 2019 before the House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

According to him, budgetary provision has been made for the conduct of the council polls

The Chairman said he would soon call a stakeholders’ meeting to discuss the modality for the conduct of the local government election this year as soon as possible.

Prof Dinakin had last year November announced the indefinite postponement of the chairmanship/councillorship polls earlier fixed for December 1, 2018.

He cited failure of the INEC in the state to provide the commission with the updated version of the voters’ register as main reason for the postponement.

He emphasised that INEC refused to provide updated version of the voters’ register despite continued requests for it by ODIEC, saying that the commission could not go on with the election with incomplete voters’ register released by INEC earlier last year.

He assured that the election would be held very soon at a date to be announced by the commission.

“If you would recall I told Ondo State people last year that our major problem was with respect to voters’ register. Last year, we were working to conduct the election but when it became obvious that in terms of time frame certain supporting information and things were not forthcoming, that was why we had to postpone the election”, the chairman stressed.

The ODIEC boss disclosed that the commission would redesign its time-table and proceed to conduct the election as soon as possible this year.
PoliticsRe: Buhari In S-east: Crack In Ohanaeze As Scribe, Abia Monarch Endorse Buhari by dunsinakin01: 4:18pm On Jan 30, 2019

dammyGold03:
AS President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign rally continued in the South-East, the political issues that bedevilled the Igbo came to the fore with the crack in the ranks of the apex pan Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo rearing its ugly head. President Muhammadu Buhari and Abia State Governor, H.E. Okezie Ipeazu during the commissioning of Ariaria Market Independent Power Project in Aba Abia.

In a similar vein, Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha and national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole publicly disagreed at the President’s campaign rally in Imo. President Buhari visited Abia and Imo States yesterday in continuation of the Presidential campaign rally of the APC.

The Chief John Nnia Nwodo-led Ohanaeze Ndigbo had last week announced the endorsement of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi as his running mate. However, the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Uche Okwukwu, who allegedly had earlier expressed a dissenting view from that of his chairman, called on Ndigbo to vote for Buhari, the APC Presidential candidate. The second endorsement was by the chairman of Aba Traditional Council, His Royal Majesty, Dr Isaac Ikonne, Enyi 1 of Aba, who called on all indigenes of Abia State to vote for Buhari, the APC Presidential candidate. Okorocha splashes N7.5bn on school children Okwukwu announced that the adoption of President Buhari as the true Ohanaeze candidate who will be formally recognised as such at a coming event at the Aso Rock Villa.

He said the Igbo people would “remain loyal and committed to President Buhari for the payment of pensions to ex-Biafran security personnel; for the administration’s policy on ease of doing business,” which, the traditional ruler said, had benefited the Igbo more than any other ethnic group, and “the massive infrastructural development going on throughout the South-East.”

He said: “You love Nigeria and you need to return to consolidate your fight against the monster called corruption and to take us to the next level. I want to assure you that Aba and Abians and indeed all Igbos will massively vote for you.” On his part, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, welcomed the existing “synergy” between the federal government and his state which he said, had come with enormous gains that are cherished by the government and the people. Buhari inaugurates Ariaria Power Plant Speaking while inaugurating the Ariaria power plant, President Buhari said:

“Today with policies and programmes such as this IPP, we have demonstrated that if the common good is our mutual objective, it can be achieved irrespective of party differences and constitutional limitations. “Electricity has no political colour,” the President said in his speech at the inauguration of the plant. President Buhari expressed delight that 37,000 shops belonging to traders and small business owners in Ariara market will, one after the other, be connected to the dedicated electricity supply. He noted that the feat will strengthen the Made-in-Nigeria policy for which Abia and in particular, Aba, and Ariaria market are already well known. …extols Ikpeazu Buhari commended the Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, on the newly commissioned Ariaria Power Plant, saying that without his (Ikpeazu’s) commitment and cooperation, the Federal Government would not have actualised the Ariaria Independent Power Plant located at the Ariaria International Market. He said: “I thank Your Excellency, Okezie Ikpeazu, Governor of Abia State, for your support to this project from the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing.

Thanks for your cooperation; without your cooperation, our work would not have been smooth. “You have demonstrated that with the common good as our vision and objective, a lot can be achieved irrespective of our party differences and constitutional limitations.” In his response, Governor Ikpeazu said: “Today is perhaps one of the happiest days of my life since 2015. It became clear to us that our strategy to develop Abia have to take a bearing on two things; one, the things that our people can do very well and two, take advantage of the policies of the federal government. So we decided to study the problems of Ariaria International market not only for being the hub of Trade and Commerce in the African sub region, but also because it is a center to the manufacturing of shoes and garments and all kinds of manufacturing of leather products.

“The World Bank recognizes Abia as the place that has over 200,000 people doing all kinds of things and we know that each and everyone of them multiplied, we have nearly 1 million people doing all kinds of things and most of them are located around Ariaria Market here. …asks Imo APC members to stop fighting At his campaign rally in Imo State, President Buhari warned members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state to stop intra-party fighting. Buhari spoke at the presidential rally held at Dan Anyiam stadium in Owerri, after he visited Eze Imo, Eze Samuel Ohiri.

2019 CAMPAIGN: How Edo people received Buhari Buhari said: “There is nothing new that I will say that has not been said. In 2015, we campaigned on a three-point agenda of security, economy and fighting corruption. Whichever one you take depending on where you are coming from, we have made a remarkable effort. “We have achieved food security, we have stopped importing rice. I assure you that the government will continue to support you with trader moni.

Okorocha, Oshiomhole disagree again However a drama ensued between the national chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole and the Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha. It started when Okorocha told Buhari that those introduced as APC, members were not the right people. He did not also recognise Hope Uzodimma as the Imo APC governorship candidate.

Okorocha went further to introduce Dan Nwafor, as the APC chairman in the state. The statement angered Oshiomhole who afterwards, told Buhari, that Uzodimma is the APC guber candidate, adding that Hope Uzodimma will win Imo state. Okorocha while speaking to Buhari, said: “There is nothing you can do to please the elites of Nigeria. I stand firm and unshakeable in assuring that the ordinary man remains your people. Let me remind all of you here, I am the founding father of APC in Imo state and history must be made right. Here in Imo State, we are in charge. Some of the people called to speak are not the right people.

Here is the chairman of APC, Dan Nwafor.” But Oshiomhole said: “I want to make it clear that we are not in alliance with anybody. We have the capacity, we have the people and we have the men to deliver our candidate.

We are bringing a true urban development in Imo. We are bringing a turn around for good in Imo state. “Mr President, we have found honour and capacity and the needed personality in Senator Hope Uzodimma.” Uzodimma said: “Those who believe in the president should behave and talk like Mr President. We want to use this opportunity to tell those who have not been following your footsteps that they should do so. We ask them to have a repented heart.”

Ondo-Ore road to be dualised – Osinbajo
The long over due Ondo-Ore road will be dualised if President Muhammadu Buhari is voted into office as the president for second term.

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo made the promise when he paid a courtesy visit to the Palace of the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo yesterday

He explained that grand corruption perpetrated by the past administration was a major hindrance to the development of the nation.

“They claimed to have spent Nigeria’s resources on infrastructural development, yet there was decay of infrastructure in almost every part of the country.

“President Buhari was able to bring succour to the citizenry by rebuilding the nation through infrastructure and was committed to fighting corruption to save Nigeria’s economy from total collapse”, he said.

Osinbajo reminded the people that only an honest and selfless leader like Muhammadu Buhari can be trusted with the country’s common wealth and bring about the needed development.

Osinbajo enjoined Nigerians to re-elect President Muhammadu Buhari in order for him to take the nation to the next level of economic rejuvenation.

He urged the people Ondo to vote massively for the truthfulness of President Muhammadu Buhari and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the forthcoming 2019 general elections to achieve the dream of saving the nation from total collapse.

Earlier, Osemawe of Ondo kingdom, Oba Victor Kiladejo appreciated the Vice President for giving the Yoruba people a true representation and assured him of the prayers and support of the people of Ondo kingdom.

He described Prof Osinbajo as good ambassador of the entire Yoruba race, saying Nigerians are proud of him.

Osemawe commended the Federal Government’s anti-corruption crusade which has sanitized the nation as well as its efforts at ensuring that the country witnessed massive infrastructural development especially in the area of railway and road construction.

The Monarch also made case for the upgrading of the Adeyemi College of Education to Federal University of Education and the dualisation of the Ore-Ondo-Akure expressway.

According to Osemawe, if the road is dualised, would expose the kingdom to investors.

PoliticsApc Raises Alarm Over Cult Clashes, Killings In Ondo: by dunsinakin01(op): 10:15am On Jan 29, 2019
APC RAISES ALARM OVER CULT CLASHES, KILLINGS IN ONDO:

All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday raised the alarm over cult clashes which have resulted in the death of some people in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

At least five persons have lost their lives in Ondo West Local Government in the last few days following clashes between Eiye and Aye confraternities in the community.

These killings, the chairmen of APC in Ondo West and East, Messrs Pelumi Bernard Aro and Frederick Otemuyiwa, said were politically-motivated.
Addressing a press conference at the party secretariat, Aro said the killings might scare voters away from polling stations during the general elections.

ro, who was flanked by party leaders in the constituency, asked the law enforcement agencies to prevent further loss of lives in Ondo.

He said: “We are worried by the spate of killings around the kingdom by groups suspected to be cultists; an incident that has become worrisome to the peaceful coexistence of the good people of Ondo City.

“It is important to bring to the notice of the public as well as the security agents that not less than three young men had been brought down by the guns of these killer cultist gangs.

“The last occurrence was in broad daylight on the 20th of January 2019, about 5.30p.m. at Akure motor park area, very close to the residence of a popular candidate of one of the political parties in the kingdom, who had his campaign flag-off on the same day.

The young man was shot dead and the killers were seen shooting sporadically into the air to scare the people around the vicinity for them to escape from being apprehended.

These killer gangs were seen coming down from a vehicle suspected to be coming from the campaign flag-off of their party on sporting the victim who is seemingly believed to be their target.

The character of these killings in recent times can be likened to be politically motivated, apparently to show supremacy and control over unprotected citizens of Ondo City towards the forthcoming elections

“It is imperative as responsible community leader and party chieftains to alert the public to this unwholesome development and dastard act with the view to charge the security agents to rise up and stem the tide of security breach in the community.

“We hereby call on the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gbenga Adeyanju, the Area Commander, Ondo Area Command, the DPOs, within the command, to act swiftly as a matter of urgency to curb the nefarious activities of these killer cultist gangs before the due date of the elections for the good people of Ondo kingdom to be able to exercise their right to franchise.”

Ondo Residents taskedon sanitation law

Residents of Ondo State have been called upon to obey the environmental sanitation law in order to maintain a clean state.

General Manager, Ondo State Waste Management Board, Mrs Bola Akinyanmi made the call last Saturday while monitoring the January 2019 edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in some specific locations in Akure.

She specifically cautioned against the dumping of waste inside the drainage in front of a telecommunication company along the road.

Addressing violators of the exercise who were members of the NURTW at Oloko park, she reminded them of the need to maintain a clean environment in their various homes and not only at their work place and urged them to always keep their homes clean during the exercise.

Ekiti flags off free medical services for 50,000

Ekiti State Government has flagged off a free medical services across the 16 local government areas of the state.

Speaking in Ikere Ekiti, during the official flag-off of the programme, Governor of the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi said the programme was part of the activities of his administration to reverse the poor health indices of the state’s health sector in order to produce good health outcomes for the citizenry.

The Governor explained that he would continue to provide the leadership required to stop the “sobering decline in Ekiti state health indices from 2016 to 2018”.

Fayemi disclosed that no fewer than 50,000 residents were expected to benefit from medical attention, including corrective surgeries and eye treatment in the first phase of the programme which is designed to hold on quarterly basis.

He expressed determination to ensure that the state does not lag behind in the delivery of quality and effective health care services

Fayemi said the goal of his government was to ensure that Ekiti State “regains its place in the comity of states by reworking our health system to deliver improved health indices as marker of a healthy society”.

“In Ekiti State as at 2018, mortality rate among children was 49 deaths per 1000 population in the first month of life. 69 deaths per 1000 in the first year of life while it is 86 deaths in the first five years of life of the children. Ekiti State skilled birth attendants also dropped from being the first in the South-West region in 2015 now to being the 5th in position among the South-west States”, Fayemi said.

The free health mission, the Governor said was a vehicle to expand access to basic health interventions that have been proven to improve the health of women of reproductive age and children.

He noted that over 500,000 people participated in the mission during his first tenure as governor between 2010 and 2014.

“By the account from the first 2 days of this mission, we believe that by the end of this first phase, we would have been able to serve over 50,000 residents of Ekiti State. This mission is a first instalment of a revolutionary health programme portfolio that will ensure that healthcare can be delivered quantitatively and sustainably”, he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr Folake Olomojobi said 10,246 people had received free treatment in general outpatient cases, dental surgeries, HIV/AIDS test, family planning and other health issues within the first two days of the mission.

Olomojobi noted that the Basic Healthcare Fund recently launched by the President was an endorsement of Fayemi’s “Facility based free health programme” funded and implemented between 2011 and 2014.

In his comment the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Adu commended Governor Fayemi for initiating the programme; calling on Ekiti residents to troop out and benefit from the health mission.

The programme which was held at the palace of Ogoga of Ikere was attended by traditional rulers from various communities in the state, politicians, as well as officials from the state Ministry of Health among others..
