I'm 28 this year, and I graduated from the university in February 2025 (still waiting for NYSC). I studied electrical engineering in a Nigerian federal university.

I'm from a high middle income family, my dad is a painting contractor that works with expatriate companies who based in Nigeria.


Now my problem: i started freelancing in 2014 on Fiverr and I was making money writing for companies online, I was earning in dollars weekly. I was 16 years old.

But somehow, when I go into the university in 2017, I stopped freelancing or learning skills.

My school is like heavily focused on academics, I decided to focus fully on studies especially after I was advised to withdraw in 2016 (I failed my first year before I reapplied to the same school).


Fast forward to 2025, I realized I have spent all my time on studies, I haven't learnt any skills, I'm not making any money.

Now January 2026, I started learning some skills seriously, practicing them for 8 hours daily, they are: digital marketing, Javascript to build landing pages, run paid ads, implement GTM tracking (basically stuff related to software engineering but slighlty different).


I feel so depressed because I should have started earlier (maybe, even by keeping up with the consistency in 2014).


I feel so behind, whenever I think of my wasted years (approximately 12 years), I can't help but want to end it all.


I don't have money problems, but this isn't about money but wasted potential


Please tell me, am I overreacting.

Please don't just tell me something to make me feel good or disciurage me from suicide.

Content marketing is saturated.
SEO is dying with AI overview.
Social media management may probably be automated. but its also a good choice.

I've been learning

1.paid ads (Meta and Google ads)
2.content marketing (writing and optimizing conversion assets like landing page, sales page, lead magnets). I optimize them using A/B testing
3.SEO
4.GTM/GA4 analytics
5.Social Media management
6.HTML/CSS/JS for coding pages onto website after writing them. I also learnt how to use no code builders like Framer and systeme.io

I have been learning all this over the past 1 year.


And now I want to specialize, because I can't do everything.

The two options have GTM/GA4 analytics, html/css/js and no code builders added.

But the decision is between paid ads and content marketing (which involves writing and optimizing website content, no social media posting).

Which should I go for? Paid ads or content marketing?

Please mods help me get more visibility.
