Politics / Re: Bad State Of Imo State Teaching Hospital by dynadang(m): 8:32pm On Oct 15, 2015
A huge protest organized by Medical students of the Imo State University, Oweri, IMSU, has somgradation being witnessed in Imo state educational sector even as they were beaten up and tear gassed by the Nigerian Police as order by Owelle Rochas Okorocha. This comes from the backdrop of His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s declaration of total free education up to university level.
Many would swiftly applaud such a gesture by His excellency, but it all came with a dire cost. An institution which has been recognized nationally for producing the best law students and competent doctors(although with a long stay) amongst others, has just been totally devalued under the administration of Governor Okorocha. Consequently, the said university has lost its NUC accreditation in key courses such as medicine and surgery, law, medical labouratory and a host of other courses in the just concluded accreditation exercise held in July, 2015.
However, the loss of NUC accreditation in key courses might have been averted had the governor not used the school’s administration as his political tool. In five years of his administration, the school experienced not less than four vice chancellors, which he changes like garments. Such an act it bent on halting any meaningful contribution to the progress of the school. The most disastrous of all was the undignified removal of Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, just few weeks to the accreditation exercise. Prof. Awuzie brought real change in the institution during his short stay. He attracted many Federal Government projects in the school under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETF). Things were working very harmoniously in the university under his administration, before the Governor had him removed just for political interests. Apart from the poor quality free education offered by Gov. Rochas, his only infrastructural contribution to the University was to erect three long halls, which stand to be potential death traps, considering the fact that one of the halls collapsed.
Anyway, I cannot deny the fact that he really did some appreciable work in the Imo State University Teaching Hospital. Completion of the new hospital complex as well as construction of an ultra-modern hall is highly applaudable. However, it seems the Governor has lost a glimpse of what is a priority and what isn’t. The route to the hospital is in a highly deplorable state, which is worsened by the incessant rainfall witnessed lately. Honestly, the road is so bad that taking a pregnant woman to the hospital via that route could lead to miscarriage. This situation has resulted in the hike of transport fare to convey patients to the hospital. Consequently, there are little or no patients in the hospitals and as such, the clinical students have little or nothing to experience. Moreover, there is an alarming rate of complications and deaths escalated by transporting patients via the Teaching Hospital road.
Amidst all these deplorable conditions of the university, the Governor is still fostering his habit of building and abandoning ‘irrelevant’ projects. Now, the question Imolites should ask their Governor is why is he building a new university in his hometown Ogboko, when the state’s only public university is in ruins? Why not focus the state’s resources on few meaningful projects that will make life easier for the Imolites? I assure you that the millions wasted in the abandoned university at Ogboko will go a long way towards transforming IMSU to one of the best three universities in Nigeria. Now, the tax payers money have been wasted and the state lies in ruins. Who will suffer it? The poor masses, obviously. Afterall, Rochas’ daughter just graduated from a university in the US, and none will ever attend our poor public schools.
Right now, the Medical School of Imo State University, Owerri is at stake. In few weeks, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria will come for their accreditation exercise. From all indications, it is by God’s that the school with retain its accreditation. #saveimsuth

Now in Owerri the State capital of Imo State at Okigwe Road roundabout the Student Doctors of Imsuth orlu who are currently undergoing a peaceful protest
over non payment of salaries, deplorable condition of the hospital and the 10 years duration of its medical school, are now been beaten up and tear gassed by the
Nigerian Police on the order of Governor Rochas Okorocha...please help # SaveImsuth

Education / Imo State University Teaching Hospital In Trouble (imsuth) by dynadang(m): 8:13am On Oct 15, 2015
Imo state university teaching hospital on strike for over 3 months and still counting. No progress in the medical school till date.
Due to National issues, down to the non payment of salaries of Doctors of IMSUTH. The one eyed hospital which is of immense help to the community of Orlu and the
sole training ground for the medical students of IMSU has for the past 3 months been a deserted area. This is due to the strike action of the doctors in responds to
the reasons stated ab initio.
The effect of this to the community and to the medical school is unquantifiable. In the medical school, all forms of school progress has been put to a halt pending
resumption of full hospital activities. It will be amazing to know that 10 years of stay of students in this college may be having some pluses if things continue the
same. It has been such a life of frustration for us students.
We thank and appreciate the efforts of our Governor, Rochas Okorocha for his belief and fight for education for all. We also want to use this medium to call to his
mind that our teaching hospital is a major part of our school training and should be kept good and alive for the completion of its educative function as a teaching
hospital. All the roads leading to the teaching hospital are in a deplorable state. In september 2014 the Governor promised to dualize the road leading to the hospital
and up till date, not even a patch has been done on the road. This is a cry for help. Owelle please 10years in Medical School is Bad enough. With the present halt in
activities in IMSUTHour stay is just going to get longer. Our parents are tired of this hopeless situation.

The better way to send it is instead of composing a new mail, just click reply on their previous mail sent to u.
