It’s possible to convert red bricks, some of the world’s cheapest and most familiar building materials, into energy storage units that can be charged to hold electricity like a battery, a new study shows.
The researchers have developed a method to make or modify “smart bricks” that can store energy until required for powering devices. The method converts bricks into a type of energy storage device called a supercapacitor .

“Our method works with regular brick or recycled bricks, and we can make our own bricks as well,” says Julio D’Arcy, assistant professor of chemistry. “As a matter of fact, the work that we have published in Nature Communications stems from bricks that we bought at Home Depot right here in Brentwood (Missouri); each brick was 65 cents.”
The proof-of-concept study shows a brick directly powering a green LED light.

Walls and buildings made of bricks already occupy large amounts of space, which could be better utilized if given an additional purpose for electrical storage. While some architects and designers have recognized the humble brick’s ability to absorb and store the sun’s heat, this is the first time anyone has tried using bricks as anything more than thermal mass for heating and cooling.

“In this work, we have developed a coating of the conducting polymer PEDOT, which is comprised of nanofibers that penetrate the inner porous network of a brick; a polymer coating remains trapped in a brick and serves as an ion sponge that stores and conducts electricity,” D’Arcy says.
The red pigment in bricks— iron oxide, or rust—is essential for triggering the polymerization reaction. The researchers’ calculations suggest that walls made of these energy-storing bricks could store a substantial amount of energy.

“PEDOT-coated bricks are ideal building blocks that can provide power to emergency lighting,” D’Arcy says. “We envision that this could be a reality when you connect our bricks with solar cells
—this could take 50 bricks in close proximity to the load. These 50 bricks would enable powering emergency lighting for five hours.
“Advantageously, a brick wall serving as a supercapacitor can be recharged hundreds of thousands of times within an hour. If you connect a couple of bricks, microelectronics sensors would be easily powered.”

I'm sorry but this doesn't help. I know how mutual funds & fixed deposit works. I also shared the current rates with you, I am only trying to understand how this would benefit me and other people reading this thread who have some cash to invest & you have given me no information.

Why would I invest in mutual funds that gives me 4% returns? Fixed deposit is also trash too, at least at this current times.



If we all sell our dollars to students by Oct, let's say we buy it at $1/480 sell it for $1/500 or 550. We are making 30k - 70k Naira profit.

This is good though.

Currently mutual funds in Naira interest rates is 4%. Fixed deposit rates also has dropped.

1M is around $2,000 with $1/470 rate. So are you saying by October, dollar would have become $1 / 1,000 Naira?

I am asking just for clarification, I come in peace.

incompetent people seized power, u wouldn't expect much than what is happening.

Just like what happened in IMO, where a seasoned administrator Ihedioha came on board within months, Imo economy rejuvenated... Until that power was siezed, and it returned to shambles... with lamentations and wailing, while people die of lack of basic needs.


Now, if you have a 9am to 5pm job, start saving to invest.

If you are to invest, consider three basic needs if man... food, clothing and shelter.

Which is the pain. People that have connections buy at official rate sell at black market and continue with the cycle. The earlier the CBN takes its hand of Exchange Rate and allow the market to determine the price, the better.

I was discussing it with someone today, saying how come people like Okonjo-Iweala is watching while this country crumbles?
Is there nothing they can do to save what's left of the dignity of our economy?
Do they not have passion for this country? This is not about Buhari's failure anymore, it's our collective failure. I'm ashamed.

No vex, you sef, body dey catch you. So you feel the naira will depreciate by almost 100% before the end of the year, right? Even at that, it doesn't implies his dollar would have doubled. But I get the need to protect the value of his worth which is highly appreciated
