In the year 2001, after my OND, I applied for siwes in Nigeria breweries, we had an aptitude test , later my aunty who connected me asked the HR who then was his friend how did i perform at the test, to my surprise, the HR told her on phone that I didn't score very well, but that she shouldn't bother, that the test was a formality,later I was given an offer for siwes in Nigerian breweries.

Omo! That's serious o 😅. But on a serious note I want to ask a question o, is aptitude test the best way to recruit experienced hands for positions that require experience, I want to believe aptitude tests should be for graduate trainees with little or know experience in the field just academic qualifications.
My reason is that l, if you subject someone who has left school for 8 or more years to be solving one ratio, percentage work or answering one verbal reasoning stuff, you will end up recruiting mostly inexperienced hands. I think the best should have been a test that is job specific, I stand to be corrected sha

Aptitude test is a prerequisite for any standard company employment whether experienced or inexperienced hire positions.
If you had read my post above, you will understand that seplat as a company has an employee referral policy or program where it's employees refers individuals who they know are experienced in a job role , (you can Google seplat employee referral program) , this refered individuals are also meant to pass through the same aptitude test as you /we, but their score doesn't really stop them from being invited for the physical interview with others who applied online, it's at this point that those who referred those candidates makes sure that their candidates are hired, seplat even compensate those their employees for referring those the trust and are certain that they have the pre-required experience on the role. But with God everything is possible.Company like Nlng often advertise for trainee technician, without prior working experience and put them through an aptitude test, my friend scored high on the test and was further invited for an oral ,after which he was told by one of the interviewers that he's an ideal candidate, but later he wasn't contacted by Nlng. So in summary, the recruitment process in our dear country is just like the election process, but we keep trying.

Good morning guys, congratulations to me, I just got a technician job @ the seplat Anoh gas plant through a manager's referral. For those waiting for seplat exams/ interviews -i wish you all the best.

From my end, I applied for production and maintenance technicians, which are under production division, I just checked my progress page on their portal,and it's showing reviewing applications the second time.....I understand these invites are in batches. So if you haven't been contacted by seplat for tomorrow test, log in to their portal and check your application status-no cause for alarm yet.

For those who have been contacted, congratulations, be open in communication here , the most important thing now is to pass their psychometrics test.

Concerning the delays in these companies hiring process, two major factors are responsible;

1. Interests- By this,I mean ,for instance, seplat needs experience hands to reduce training costs, but some of our corrupt leaders will impose fresh graduates who are either their children or even girl friends relatives on seplat, let's assume seplat needs 50 experienced persons, and these leaders imposed 25 inexperienced persons on them, this may cause seplat shareholders to futher delay the process and begin to think of another headway ...this doesn't stop their oil and gas production in any way .

2.Planning ahead - For instance, we all know that seplat energy in December 2024 acquired mobil assets including their shallow water business,the also inherited about 1000 staff and 500 contractors from mobil,which will not be enough because of the rotation jobs,seplat also has a baby (Anoh gas plant)
in imo state which is to become fully operational this Q4, so recruiting now for them may not be as fast as we wish. But our earnest prayer is to join them soonest.

an HND (regardless of whether it's with a "lower credit" or other classification) is broadly equivalent to a City & Guilds Level 5 certificate .

Pls, i want to ask, in there operations and maintenance technicians advert criteria,they stated HND upper or City & guilds certificate and a university degree in Elect/mech/instrument/civil engineering, my question now goes thus,
City and guild is far below even HND lower credit, is it that they are looking for just skilled/experienced candidates not minding whether lower or upper credits. Replies pls.
