ceedon007: You guys should visit ur anyakoha physics textbook. the answer is that birds have rubber coated legs which acts as an insulator. An Insulator does not allow the flow of energy/current through it.
For eg: if u have killed a fowl before and u are removing the feathers with hot water, u will find out that the legs are rubber coated. That is the reason why the birds do not get shocked when they rest on high voltage elctric power lines.
Make ur research and thank me later. This is incorrect. If the bird sitting on live wire touches any nearby object, it will be roasted alive even with its "insulated" feet! |

idris4r83: I just tried it n I did not feel any shock. Thanks for sharing this information. Wow! I'm amazed! Again, what is the voltage of the wire you touched? 220V or 100,000V? This is another important factor. |

ibolomo: Theoretically, it will not. but because of other factors, such as moisture on the slippers, sweat on the feet, and stupidity and lack of maintenance and obedience of electrical guidelines by PHCN and electricians that connect light to our homes, trying to cut corners and reduce cost (in earthing for instance) , if you touch live wire, even with slippers, na your death certificate you sign so. No try am ooo. even the teacher who taught us while in secondary school immediately gave a disclaimer, that we shouldn't try it @bolded. This really got me laughing! |

ibolomo: I can remember that we were taught those days. I think the voltage at which an insulator conducts electricity (where voltage exceeds internal resistance) is called threshold voltage or conductive voltage. It's been a while tho Excellent contribution! You remind me of sweetness of Physics! Chai! |

damilolaq99: Am afraid it's very true. Birds are not elecrocuted because dere is practically no blood in dere legs and even d bones are hollow. The only reasons other animals are electocuted is because of d presence of blood. Even d highest voltage of electricity cannot travel through a very very good insulating material. You're wrong! Insulators like plastics, rubbers, fur, air, etc will conduct electricity if they are subjected to a very high voltage. The insulation will be bleached. For the birds, they have blood running through all parts of their body. |

BlakKluKluxKlan: I believe very strongly that birds' claws have special insulators that protect them from electrocution. Birds with the strongest claws or insulation sitting on live wire will still be electrocuted if the birds touch any nearby object! |

Drehilton: 1)The bird lands on the cable with its legs at the same time.If done otherwise the bird would be electrocuted...as the difference between landing with leg1 and leg2 would cause p.d
2)The bird is standing alone and it's upright, thus current cannot easily flow from down to up...that is why bats do get roasted as current tends to flow easily downwards due to gravitational force
3)The bird is standing on the same wire..it has the same flow of current with no potential difference...if it's across two wires...that is suicidal. Your number 1 and 2 are wrong. Only your number 3 is correct. |

cybriz82: bat nko y do they get electrocuted. Any bat that hangs on only one live power line either with one hand or both hands is safe! However, if the bat hangs on one live wire with one hand and tries to hang the other hand on another different wire, the bird will be roasted alive! |

sod09: for real, human can hold d live current with one hand but if the two hands hold it that roasting That's what the theory says! Even with two hands! But the conditions are: 1. It must be the same wire not different wires. 2. The person must be floating in air ie the person's legs or other parts of the body must not touch any other thing. Pleeeaasee again! Don't go and try it! It's better to leave it as Theory like that! |

Allwility: Oh it sure does apply to humans. In HSE, you are taught that if there's live voltage on the floor, you don't walk across the floor else you create a potential difference and get an electric shock. You hop like a bird to safety. 100000000000000 likes! |
