“We started the match around 10:30am, and as the match was on we were having upper hand in the game and two of their players handled the ball inside the penalty area and the referee awarded a penalty, as soon as the penalty was awarded, someone just carrieda stone and hit the referee on the head and the referee was attacked and the whole venue turned upsidedown and the referee was beaten black and blue which lead to us all running helter skelter for safety.” Masambo stated.

THE chairman of the Federal Civil Service
Commission, Mrs Joan Ayo, has disclosed
that not less than 1,774 persons were
recruited into the Federal Civil Service in
2014 to ostensibly boost the nation’s
workforce.
She also revealed that the commission
successfully conducted and concluded the
2014 service-wide promotion examination
for eligible officers in the Directorate Level
(GL 14 to GL 16) in the Federal Civil
Service in which about 1,917 candidates
were promoted.
Ayo, who spoke at an interactive session
with newsmen in Abuja, on Thursday, on
the activities of the commission in the
outgoing year, said the conduct of
promotion exercise took a new dimension
based on the resolve of the commission to
exhibit transparency and integrity in the
process.
According to her, the era of where
promotions were lobbied or paid for in the
service was over, insisting that every
promotion exercise in the Service must be
based on merit.
She noted that promotions in the Service
were done based on the vacancies
declared by the Ministries, Departments
and Agencies (MDAs) through the Office of
the Head of Service of the Federation, as
the commission does not create vacancy.
She said the commission, in collaboration
with the HOS office, drew up structured
mandatory training programmes, which
must be undertaken by respective officers
at all cadres before being promoted to the
next as part of efforts to enhance the
capacity of the workers to deliver on their
mandates.
The FCSC boss disclosed that over 100
disciplinary cases were considered by the
commission against errant officers in the
outgoing year, with four pending cases
still under interrogation by the security
agencies.
She added that out of several disciplinary
cases challenged by the affected civil
servants in the law court, about 18 cases
were successfully prosecuted and won by
the commission.
Joan Ayo, insisted that the core values of
the Civil Service, including discipline,
meritocracy, political neutrality, integrity,
professionalism, accountability and
transparency among others must be
restored.
