Ebonyi State government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru has commenced the upgrade of the Chuba Okadigbo Airport runway to international standard.


The State Commissioner for Aviation and Technology, Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu said that expatriates had been contracted to upgrade the Airport runway.

Obichukwu said the upgrade of the runway, from concrete to standard asphalting, is to enhance the operation of foreign airlines and other flights movements at the airport.


The Aviation Commissioner, who assured foreign airlines and travellers of adequate protection and safe landing at the Airport said:

“The runway is of concrete, instead of asphalt. And that’s why the Governor Francis Nwifuru quickly dispatched experts that are knowledgeable in the construction of runways to see how the runway can be upgraded to international standard.

“The expatriates are here and as you can see, they are working tirelessly to ensure that the runway meets international standard. The United Nigeria Airways landed here and requested that the concrete be upgraded to standard asphalting.


Governor Francis Nwifuru has opened discussion with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC and CDC construction companies to ensure that the runway is constructed to international standard.

She added that: “Chuba Okadigbo Airport is a threat to other airports in the South-East region, and needs to be upgraded.”

This is what happens when you elect a governor that only cares about infrastructure only. He will be building one vanity project upon another.

A good governor should invest in education, health care, good transport and security, but because those things are not tangible or easily seen, they don't do it.instead they build flyovers, bridges, airports, universities that will sit empty and massive roads.

This is why many Nigerians thinks wike and umahi were good governors, because of the flyover and bridges they built.

Umahi built a college of medicine hospital in the middle of know where and people of ebonyi hailed him. Yesterday he said he is building a supersonic highway to connect lagos and abuja in 4 hours, another vanity project is loading.

Ebonyi airport hasn’t received a single commercial flight four months since it was commissioned.

When we tried to investigate the cause, it was learnt that almost all the Nigerian airlines have refused to fly to Ebonyi state because it is considered among the most unprofitable route in Nigeria. Ebonyi people are mainly peasant farmers and aren’t known for using air transport for most of their travels.

One of the airline officials who doesn’t want his name mentioned said that the poverty rate in Ebonyi state is one of the highest in Nigeria and they wondered how an airport in such obscure and isolated state would be viable in the first instance.

The airport site which has remained deserted because there’s no activity whatsoever happening there is now wasting away. Some residents of the state have asked the government to turned the site into an amusement park since no Nigerian airline has agreed to fly to ebonyi state.

It has become very clear that ex governor Umahi borrowed and wasted billions of naira on the airport project when most Ebonyi people cannot even afford one square meal a day and have no money to send their children to school.

Why are Nigerian airlines avoiding Ebonyi state airport ?

I don't know if you really use your iq before typing You need to evaluate yourself before advising others, at least Anambra airport is doing well, east airports are doing great except Ebonyi, Ondo airport that's old still receives one or two flight in a week

Which future? How many Ebonyians travel by air? We have Imo Airport patronized by both indigenes of Imo and Abia states. Enugu airport patronized by Enugu indigenes or those traveling to Enugu. Anambra and Asaba airports experience massive traffic from Anambra indigenes. Tell me,who will patronize Ebonyi airport? Ndi izza?

Thank you for this topic. We need more hands in agriculture in this nation. Food is becoming unaffordable. Single People in Lagos, Abuja, and Portharcout earning below 100k might not be able to afford 3 square meal again. Family men in same location earning below 200k might also be living from hands to mouth. Some rural dwellers are living better than their colleagues in cities.
