Politics › Re: June 12th Holds No Good Memories For Us Igbos by EcoNews: 7:56am On Jun 13, 2024 |
Arthur Nzeribe gidgiddy: How time flies, its been 31 years since June 12th 1993, the day Bashir Tofa of NRC, and MKO Abiola of SDP, squared up to battle for the Presidency. The elections were later annulled, the fall out would claim MKO's life
However, June 12 is not something that is celebrated amongst us Igbos in the East, for two main reasons.
1. Igbos bore the brunt of the violence that followed June 12th annulment. Various armed Yoruba militias such as OPC sprang up, and wrecked violence all over the West, particularly Lagos. Igbo businesses were looted, burnt or destroyed. Overnight, thousands of Igbos had to jump into vehicles and run back to the East as the violence grew worse, in a phenomenon known as "oso Abiola"(The Abiola run). Some Igbos never returned with their lives.
2. June 12th also exposed to Igbos a certain hypocrisy they see in Yoruba's. It was Northerners that annulled June 12th, it was under the custody of a Northerner that MKO died. On the contrary, Igbo men like Professor Humphrey Nwosu, who conducted June 12th elections, nearly lost his life trying to defend MKO's results. But the Yorubas rarely ever call out the Northerners over June 12th and the death of Abiola
Had it been Igbos that annulled June 12th, had it been under the custody of an Igbo man that MKO died, heavens would have fallen.
June 12th holds no place in the hearts of us Igbos, we are still counting our loses. |

Rest, I studied Philosophy first n second year in school, n did not see anything stressful about it. Starzo: Nigerians generally gravitate towards the professional courses like engineering and medicine because 'na there money dey'
I studied engineering in school. I had roommates who studied other courses like philosophy, English and literary studies. Those courses hard too. Person go dey plot graph for English.
And with engineering, there's a universal formula. If ten students follow the steps and apply the right formulas , they'll get the same answers and the lecturer will give all of them the full marks assigned to that question.
But with courses like philosophy, there's no general answer. The lecturer gives grades based on his personal conviction. You might give a 100% valid answer, but if it does not fully align with the opinion of the lecturer then you won't get the full marks.
Or na history wey students go kram dates taya

Pls confirm you are Igbo if not please state your tribe ? Nigerians need to know who the most horrible tribe in the country is. 100millionGoal: No one gave Abiola any option to run away or escape. How would he have achieved that under the watch of Abacha?
You can't rewrite history.
Abiola was the first election rigger in history who thought he could trick Sani Abacha.
He went on to declare himself winner and president from an election that was very corrupt like that of Tinubu.
I wonder why free and fair election is like Kryptonite to Yorubas.... You people can never do anything without corruption and rigging. |
