This is exactly how I felt after the exam. To make sure I was properly prepared I went extra mile to buy Shl practice test course on Jobtestprep for almost $90. But that's the beauty of life. You just never know. I do have a satisfaction that I gave it my all. That's enough closure for me. horlatayorr: Thought to put this out there for who cares to read. Sometimes, life works in funny ways, ways beyond what your mind will easily track.
I was very doubtful upon writing the first test, I panicked and most of my answers were based on elimination with "strategic" guesses; I was unsure of most save about three questions; I thought it was over and paused to reflect on what had just happened as soon as i clicked the submit button. I felt the performance I had put in didn't reflect my cognitive abilities and I was displeased, knowing I could have done way better.
New year came, more persons were invited to write the test and my doubts persisted. Fastforward to when groups started buzzing with "invitation to second level ability test" again; I worriedly laid in bed clinging on to the slightest ray of hope, and at about the 20th reload, the mail dropped! In that moment, I felt the Universe had come together to make this happen; and took it as another chance to make things happen. So, I prepared like my life depended on it; I barely had any sleep in the build up to the Assessment. What didn't I do? I simulated the pressure levels of the real test; especially the Numerical Reasoning, solving 4 questions in 6 minutes (1.5mpq--minutes per question), as opposed to 10 questions in 18 minutes (1.8mpq) in the real test. Practiced all the behavioural questions I could find, watched videos on how to approach them in Organisational context; NLNG in this case, didn't spare the Inductive Reasoning either.
No long talk, I wrote the test and was confident I had put in a great performance. 5 questions into the Numerical test, I had used only 6 minutes and had over 12 minutes left, every ounce of pressure disappeared for me, and I calmly solved through the questions. From my practice, I could see through the tricky nature of the JFA questions, and the patterns of the Inductive were a complete walkover, at least, so I thought. Completed the assessment, and I stood up hitting my fist against the air "Upper cut style" in celebration of what I thought was a stellar performance, said prayers to God and went on to reward myself with food for what had been an intense past couple of weeks filled with sleepless nights.
Should we fast forward again or jump? Let's jump! Jumping to when the infamous "mails don dey drop o" touched base like a US F-15E Strike Fighter Jet, but this time in WhatsApp groups. Tensed, but very hopeful, I picked my phone to check my mail and I indeed got a mail notification.......but not from my dearly beloved NLNG. . And, I've still been reloading, this time around not for the one I'd hoped to get. Sad, yeah?
But, in that moment, I realised that the only thing you owe to yourself is to leave it all on the table at every chance you get! And, I indeed left it all out. Reminds me of the "Chelsea vs Real Madrid 2022 UCL Clash"; Chelsea clearly deserved the win but Modric's nasty pass to Rodrygo sent all their efforts down the drain; Reece James said after that match " We left it all out there and sometimes it just isn't enough". I don't like chelsea fans, though, but you get the point . Sometimes, everytime, you've got to leave it all out and even if it isn't enough? You go again with more fire!
Regardless, I still look forward to visiting RA (Fun fact: Streets in NLNG RA are named after Cities in Nigeria e.g Akure, Abuja, etc. I don really do research mehn ), taking a swim in the pool and using the gym, also seeing the renovated Finima Park and enjoying the peace and quiet of Nature at the Finima Beach.
This life thing, yeah? And, yes, i'm still reloading.
Thank you for reading! |

Hey, I know it's easier said than done but get your mind off it. Also, checking this thread everyday doesn't help. If you do that reduce how frequently you come on here. Personally I'm counting down till September, releasing myself of every expectation between now and then because by faith it is already done. No expectations = No disappointment = Peace. Take care of yourself ❤️ Larynxfc: I hope this is the week they send the mails, and let us all know our fates. I'm at the edge of insanity right now-need that closure real quick!!! |

Can we all just agree to stop responding to this thing? We've stretched this way beyond what it deserves. It's getting insufferable.
You can see that it's thriving off the very fact that we are feeding it. We are responding, we are dragging, the very thing it wants.
A word is enough for the wise. Anyone who after reading all these, still thinks it's worthy of buying, good for them.
It will continue hawking and trolling, that's certain, we can't control that. Just don't respond. Pls let this message be the last about Jobslever.
Thank you. |

Thank you so much for the kind words and for wishing me well. I wish you and every other person in this race well too. May God grant us our heart desires in accordance with his will. While I'm hoping for the best, I'm preparing for the worse also, so I don't get too emotionally devastated if I don't get an invite for the AC. Corporatehitman: I think you'll get to the next stage. Congratulations. You really worked hard for it. It's even more impressive that you're an NYSC member.
I wish I had the time to put in that much effort.
After the exams, I really thought I should have done an extensive research and simulation on the company's culture before the test.
However, I didn't really deviate from the company's core values. I leaned towards safety, diversity (I think I choose an option wrongly), respect, caring, Teamwork etc. .
However, I think there were some questions I placed myself first. I'm not a robot lol, but I understand that it's a robot that'll determine if we're suitable or not. |

Your being honest is commendable, but if you like be honest all you can (which is a good thing) if you don't fit into the organisations work culture, they won't pick you. That's the point of the test. To eliminate who doesn't fit. Sometimes you just have to be strategic. While preparing for the job focused assessment, after finding out what it will entail, I went to NLNG's website memorised their core values, made an acronym SICTER - Safety, Integrity, Caring, Teamwork, Excellence and Respect. Also saw on their website what they were looking for in their talent - innovation, problem solving, commitment to excellence and the rest, and made sure all my answers tilted were towards these. Anything teamwork, working as a team, Innovation, fostering diversity and inclusion, showing care for colleagues I chose it. While options suggesting work politics, emotional manipulation and putting self over team I avoided them. This is how I approached that assessment. Like someone rightly said let the AC mail or we regret to inform you mail be the final judge. We've all done our best, let's leave the rest to God. Corporatehitman: I don't know if it's me, but I still remember I was asked at least twice whether I was good at data/statistical analysis.
I didn't select it as my strength.
On one hand I know that data is very relevant in oil and gas operations, however when paired with other options, I think it was my least strength. It could hurt me because I don't have the quality they're looking for and they don't want to employ someone who isn't good at data analysis.
On the other hand, my overall test results may show that indeed, I was able to choose the things I was best at appropriately, thus, I am self-aware, honest and fit the culture of the organization. It could then be in my advantage.
With this test, you just do your best and leave the rest to the organization to select the trainees they're willing to bet on. |

Unempathetic. UcBren: I still don't get why people would be rushing to take the assessment on the last day or a day to the last. These technical issues are the main reasons this assessment was meant to take 8 - 9 days and some still try pushing their luck on the last day. If na like this you wan rush their DCS for their facility, them fit no look your face before sending you out oh, lol. |

Yes Nimora, everyone has a right to their opinion, but some opinions are myopic minded and this “ sharing questions after the fact doesn’t help anyone and only creates unnecessary noise. ” is one. I would love to put it as a false statement, but considering this is your truth, I would say then that it is subjective and depends on an individuals ability to process information to their use and benefit. I wrote my test yesterday morning, and after the numericals felt satisfied with my performance, because I was able to recall some things i read on here that really impacted my performance. In the line chart question of plotting peoples body mass, I solved the first one and got a value way lower than what was on the y axis, i then remembered someone had a similar problem, read the question again and again before i could spot the mistake, and then got the answer right, this alone really boosted my confidence. Again, i got to a pie chart question and after forming my equation, and was thinking about what arriving at the answer would require of me, my mind went back to the comments i had seen here - there's one particular annoying question if you see it just skip it, immediately i realised this had to be the question and i skipped with my full chest saving myself some 2 minutes of precious time. And several other instances, i could go on to explain that contributed to me finishing my numericals and feeling satisfied with my performance, of test breakdown from the people who had earlier written. Lets not forgot that one of the ways of preparing adequately for an exam is using past questions. Post test breakdown can serve as a past questions in this case but only if you see it as so. "Sharing experience AFTER everyone has sat the test helps future applicants and provides some clarity and insight for current ones" is indeed a true statement. I have been reading the past GTs experiences on the AC and just imagine if they didn't talk about the questions asked. Dear Future GTs, use whatever information you see to your benefits, always try to see how an information would make you better of. Read their experiences, what they did, and the outcomes, while everyones experiences is unique and different, it will at least provide some insight on the route to go and not to, what to expect, what to do and what not to do, which you never know can change the trajectory of your assessment. May God crown all our efforts with success. Shalom. Nimora: Lastly, Everyone has a right to an opinion, but don’t push it on someone. Definitely don’t come here to tell me what I should’ve/shouldn’t have done or talk down on someone because of technical issues that’s clearly, none of your business. If you can’t make a positive impact then don’t talk about it. It’s enough he or she is having issues, making it look like their fault doesn’t make the matter any better. Chao! |

I just checked (by clicking on the start now button in the email sent by Shl, you'll be mandated to install the lock down browser, answer a few pop questions and then you'll see your task.) and there are 3 tasks. 1. Job focused assessment - 20 mins 2. Numerical Reasoning - 18 mins 3. Inductive Reasoning - 23 mins Total time - 61 minutes
The Shl Numerical Reasoning being 18 minutes means it's the interactive version and the Inductive reasoning being 23 minutes means it's the standard multiple choice version.
I don't know what the job focused assessment is about.
May God crown all our efforts with success. |
