Ex-Germany U20 Skipper Akpoguma : Rohr Wants Me To Play For Nigeria Over Germany Published: January 09, 2019 Hannover 96 defender Kevin Akpoguma has refused to change his mind on his decision not to accept a call-up up from the Nigerian Federation, saying his priority is to make his senior debut for his country of birth, Germany. Since 2014, Akpoguma has been on the radar of the Nigeria Football Federation and national teams coaching staff. Former Nigeria U23 coach Samson Siasia first invited him to a training camp in Abuja in December 2014 ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games but the central defender snubbed his invitation. Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has repeatedly expressed his interest in Akpoguma and the German tactician was unable to persuade Akpoguma to play for the Super Eagles at the 2018 World Cup. Speaking to German sports magazine Kicker, Akpoguma stated : ''Gernot Rohr is still interested and would be happy, but I do not want to close the door to the German national team. "Even if Joachim Löw calls me at the age of 27 for a game or two, that would be an honor for me, because Germany is the country where I was born." Akpoguma has collected 64 youth caps for Germany at U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 level. |

krattoss:The Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Melvin Pinnick has denied reports in the media claiming that a travel ban has been imposed on him. This comes on the heels of a report that President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that Pinnick should be prosecuted. The CAF Vice President and FIFA executive committee member took to his Twitter handle to clear the air on the report which he terms falsehood. “Good afternoon Nigeria. My attention has just been drawn to a publication by an online media organisation about a travel ban placed on me and an intending prosecution,” Pinnick wrote in a thread on Twitter. “Ironically, it comes on the heels of my trip to Accra, Ghana yesterday for a meeting between the Nigeria Football Federation and CAF partners, AITEO.” “I also have official engagements coming up in Senegal. In other words; no such ban is in place and no security agency has gotten in touch. “The @thenff recently published its audited accounts in ThisDay Newspapers & Daily Trust on Thursday the 20th of December, 2018 and on Tuesday the 25th of December, 2018 in The Vanguard Newspapers. In effect, our finances are open for anyone to see. All incomes from the Federal Government, FIFA & CAF, since 2014 are reflected. Before my appointment into the FIFA committees, I had to pass through intense integrity and eligibility tests. “I was not found wanting. Two years ago, FIFA handed the NFF a clean bill of health in our financial management. Our accounts are audited by PwC, the same firm that audits FIFA. “So it is quite laughable whenever these stories come out. And they come out, without fail, regularly, and from the same sources. “Well, I’ll be talking to my lawyers to see what legal redress I can get, but it would be nice if our media houses investigated these things before publishing. “I might not know every journalist in Nigeria, but I do know a few in just about every media house in the country. When these unfounded stories hit, it’s our football that suffers.” Sponsors and perspective sponsors become wary of and about doing business with us. Surely we can be responsible about our reports? “I’m hoping the more responsible media outlets will disregard these reports while assuring our partners and prospective partners that we are serious about taking our football upwards. Thank you very much and a very Happy New Year to you, Nigerians.” Completesports |
